Sports have always been a big part of my life. I grew up being involved with everything from softball, basketball, volleyball, and

even golf. There is not a better feeling than being a part of a team and working with

other people to reach one goal:

Page 4: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

Win!

Page 5: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

Now that I have grown up, the availability of sports teams to be a

part of has diminished, but my love for playing the game and the

lessons I learned will stick with me the rest of my life.

Page 6: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

This past week I was thinking back over my glory days of being MVP or

making All-Tournament Team to those days it was just fun to get out

there and play!

Page 7: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

However, through my reflection back on playing sports, I

noticed all the lessons I learned that prepared me for success in

life. It was these lessons that allowed me to get where I am today.

Page 8: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

After pondering these lessons for a little while, I came up the top 5success strategies that I learned

from sports that can help youachieve your goals in life whether

that is for business success orweight loss success or success

with just plain living a healthy life.

Page 9: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

#1: Planning is First

First, anyone who has ever been successful has had to plan. In

basketball we would plan by coming up with plays and various

strategies that would allow us to beat our opponents.

Page 10: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

In dance orgymnastics there was

always a routine to plan.

Page 11: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

Softball planningdidn’t necessarily include plays or

routines, but it did takestrategic planning for the pitchers and

what type of pitch they wouldthrow in certain situations in order to

be effective with their job.

Page 12: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

Planning isn’t just limited to plays or routines or pitching lineups,

but also involves having the right gear, the top players, and time to

practice.

Page 13: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

Planning also requires setting goals and determining a planof action for the team which

usually revolved around being atpractices and games, giving 100%, proper behavior, etc.

Page 14: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

Without the goals understood by all involved, it would make for lots of

confusion when it came time to execute the plan.

No one would know what needed to be done in order for the team to succeed.

There is no direction.

For any time of success, there must be direction!

Page 15: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

#2: Picture Your Success

The importance of visualization in sports can sometimes be

overlooked.

It usually is not the first thing one thinks of when determining how

to be successful.

Page 16: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

However, in basketball what will every player tell you about the key to

shooting and making the perfect shot?

They will say you visualize the motions in your head of how to execute

effectively and so when you do get the ball, your body knows exactly

what to do to make that winning basketball shot!

Page 17: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

Imagine being at thefree throw line. When a player is in

this higher pressure situation, they are taking a few seconds there

to take a breath and visualize thebasketball going through that net.

Swoosh!

Page 18: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

Underestimate the vital component of effective

visualization in yourroad to success, and you may

find you an air ball!

Page 19: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

#3: Believe in Yourself

Behind planning and picturing success comes the importance of believing in yourself.

There is nothing worse than playing on a teamwith someone who thinks they are a terrible

player!

When someone has no confidence in themselves, they are more likely to play

terrible.

Page 20: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

How about this strategy of belief playing out in golf or tennis?

Ever swung at air and totally missed the ball? Well, when you

are always thinking you can’t, you get can’t results!

Page 21: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

Negative thinking about the ability to play the game you have worked so hard to

develop the necessary skills to succeed in, will just lead to more embarrassing

moments that are not the kind to enhance your self confidence and may

even lead people to quit thinking they areutter failures!

Page 22: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

#4: Work Hard for What YOU Want

No one reached success in life or in sports without working hard!

Those major league players worked years and years to get where they

are! I heard stories of my cousin who made it to the big leagues andall the work and dedication he

possessed the majority of his life tofinally reach success

Page 23: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

He would arrive early to practice and be the last one to leave.

He would give 110% even when he didn’t feel like it all because he wanted to be successful and reach his goal of seeing playing time in Major League

Baseball.

Page 24: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

No matter which sport you are apart of, whether you are a dancer,

gymnast, or play softball or tennis. You must work hard to be good. I

don’t know of anyone in history automatically walking out there andbeing the MVP without some fort of

effort beforehand.

All those inspirational stories of success focus on one major theme:

hard work pays off!

Page 25: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

#5: Get a Coach

The final strategy that all successful athletes know is

the importanceof getting a coach. There is

always a great coach behind a successful

athlete.

Page 26: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

If you are a golfer, you have a coach there training you and helping

you improve your game all the time! In softball, basketball,

volleyball and other team sports, there is a coach that leads the team

to victory.

Page 27: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

Without a coach, there is not a support system, a cheerleader, a

teacher, an encourager, a guider, or a drill sergeant that will lead the

team to victory. A coach is necessary to motivate, inspire,

teach, and help the team develop the skills and push them to actually

achieve the goals they need to achieve.

Page 28: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

A coach is thebackbone to success. Without it, there is

no one helping the athletedo everything they can to reach their

goals. No one can be successfulalone. There is always someone or a

team behind their success.

Page 29: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

So, never give up and just get out there, work

hard, get help, and do it!

You Reaching Success in Life

There is a point to all this sports madness! These 5 strategies that were mentioned above are critical not only for the athletes’ success,

but also for the personal success of you!

If you are struggling with achieving what you want in life, whether that be business success orlosing that weight and keeping it off, there are 5 common denominators that will determine the

level of success you can and will achieve!

Page 31: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

#1: Planning

In order to reach any dreams, you must plan your path of reaching thatdream. The first order or business is

to sit down and really thinkabout what you want to achieve. Why

do you want to achieve it? Do youreally want that or is it someone else

who is wishing you wouldachieve that?

Page 32: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

Next, write out some goals you would like to achieve in order to reach

that dream. Make sure the goals you come up with are measurable (you

will know when you achieve it), have a time deadline, and are not

overwhelming.

Page 33: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

Finally, you will need to figure out your course of action in order to

reach those small goals. What steps do you need to take right now in

order to achieve that? What will have to change in your life to meet

those goals?

Page 34: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

#2: Picture Success

In regards to visualizing success with your personal goals, it is very

similar to picturing the success in sports of making the goal, basket,

hit, etc. It is important to think about what you must do to achieve

your goals.

Page 35: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

What will you do to get there? Visualize yourself going to

gym doing your specific workout and enjoying getting healthier if that

is your goal. If you want to be successful in business, visualize what

needs to be completed and the steps you will be taking in order to

reach your goals.

Page 36: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

Take a look at your goals and your plan of action. Visualize you

following through your plan of action and being successful in taking

one step closer of reaching your goals. Visualize what you will be

doing to reach your ultimate dream and do it often!

Page 37: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

#3: Believe in Yourself

The importance of developing the confidence to be successful and

believe that you can achieve success can not be stressed enough. Right

now make the decision that you can achieve weight loss or you can get that job

promotion. Think positive about yourself. You have many gifts and talents that will

help you be successful.

Page 38: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

You must banish negative thoughts from your mind. When you find yourself feeling down about yourself, take a deep breath and think positive. Tell yourself that you

can and you will achieve success.

Page 39: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

Stop listening to that inner gremlin trying to keep you at the status

quo! In order to achieve anything you must break the status quo andyour inner gremlin doesn’t like that!

Page 40: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

#4: Work Hard for What YOU Want

You must have the confidence to achieve your goals and then the

dedication to actually achieve them! Working hard is vital to your

success. The steps leading up to working hard all involved planning

and laying the foundation for you to be able to achieve the success.

Page 41: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

However, you can think positive until your brain hurts

but the onlything that will allow you to be

successful is if you actually puteverything into motion! You

must take action!

Page 42: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

Take action right now to put your plans into motion and achieve your

goals. Then work as hard as you can with all the dedication you can

muster in order to actually achieve them! Get down into the trenches

if you must, but do everything you can to reach your goals. The going

may get tough, but the tough keep going! Success does not take

quitters!

Page 43: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

#5: Get a Coach

Lastly, we come to the importance of getting a coach to achieve your

goals. When it comes to the importance of a coach for sports

there is no question that success lies with a great coach. The same is true

for your life.

Page 44: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

There are many different coaches out there over the past

few years. The type of coach’s range from life coaches, business

coaches, marketing coaches, relationship coaches, to success coaches

and health coaches. There are coaches out there for pretty much any

niche you can think of ready to help coach you to success in the area

of your life that you need help.

Page 45: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

Whether you are ready to start a business, lose weight, repair relationships, improve your job, or even raise your child, there is a coach that is

able to help you.

Page 46: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

True success lies in finding a coach who will support, encourage,

teach, and coach you to success. This coach does not tell you what to

do and then you must do. A successful coach will help you determine

what fits best for what you want to achieve.

Page 47: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

They customize theircoaching to help you find

how YOU can best be successful, not how theywere successful so it will

work for you.

Page 48: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

There is nothing that will lead to your greater success than finding

the right person to coach you and support you along to your dream.

Stop trying to do everything alone, and find the person who is right

to help you find the right path to reach your dreams!

Page 49: How to be Successful: Lessons from Sports

So, in order for you to reach your dreams and find that success you

are looking for, it is vital that you plan, visualize your success,

believe that you can be successful, work hard toward your goals, and

get the support and help that a coach can offer you. Stop trying to

get there alone!
