A webpage from an artist's point of view is a clever way to promote him/herself. These can be either by selling products or informing fans about various activities they will be hosting, for example a tour.

A webpage can be created by an artist, or in most cases by fans themselves.

How our webpage is similar to other media texts ?Our webpage is similar to real life media texts because it consists of many aspects that webpages have today such as music videos and images of the artists themselves. The left hand screenshot shows a fansite of kanye west and on the right is our webpage. As you can see most homepages of an artists webpage consists of an image of the artist and piece of introduction which we corresponded with our fansite aswell.

Cd Cover

A Cd cover is a way to help promote an artists album release by intriguing the audience with album covers. Sometimes this is the reason why people buy albums.

How our cover is similar to other media texts Our cover is similar to real life media because as you can see, covers from our era use more graphics than portraits due to the improvements in technology and improved skills, also musicians now invest more in albums covers designs.

Our album cover was inspired by Kanye West’s album called 808’s and heartbreak because the content of both are based on the concept of heartbreak. Which is why we decided to adopt a similar centre image of a broken heart.

Another way in which our cover is similar to other media texts is by the use of the parental advisory logo. A parental advisory symbol printed on albums shows a level of maturity to the album and that parents should determine whether or not the material is suitable for their children to hear.

Video

A music video is a short film or video that accompanies a complete piece of music/song. Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings and it is usually accompanied by dancing and visual images interpreting the lyrics.

How our video is similar to real life media texts ?Our music video is similar to real life videos because we incorporated the different common motifs and camera angles artists use to make an effective video.

For example to the right is a screenshot of an Alicia Keys Video where the director uses close ups to emphasize that she is playing the piano and singing at the same time. In our video there is also a piano scene where we also decided to use close ups to emphasize the use of the piano.

The way in which we chose common motifs to make the video similar to music videos is the use of impossible sequences. As shown below this is used in a lot of real life texts and we used it to show time passing.
