M A I N A T T R A C T I O N SMain AttractionsWhat main films will play at the Hiway? Predicting in advance what films will play at our beloved one-screen Hiway is the biggest challenge that we face. It is very hard to know ahead of time. The films listed here are an educated guess. Our website is always the best place to get up-to-the-minute information.Scheduling our main films is week-to-week. On Monday, we decide what main film will play starting that Friday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we set the showtimes for the upcoming week and then update our website and telephone hotline.We also send out a weekly email (sign up at our website). Jackie USA - Pablo Larrain - 1 hr 40 min This extraordinary work of art is about Jackie Kennedy, as well as history, storytelling, and grief. The film follows the First Lady in the days following the JFK assassination as she struggles with the trauma and attempts to define her husband’s legacy. Natalie Portman gives an astonishing, transformative performance. With an excellent cast including Peter Sarsgaard, Greta Gerwig, John Hurt, and Billy Crudup and a stunning score by Mica Levi.

Lion Australia - Garth Davis - 2 hrA young Indian boy becomes lost in the busy streets of Calcutta, separated from his family. He is then adopted by an Australian couple. Years later, he is determined to find his relatives. This crowd-pleasing drama is emotional and fulfilling. Starring Dev Patel and Sunny Pawar. Also with Rooney Mara and Nicole Kidman.

Fences USA - Denzel WashingtonDenzel Washington directed and stars in this adaptation of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama. Set in the 1950’s, an African-American father struggles with the pressure of raising his family during the social and political ten-sions of the day. Washington and Viola Davis reprise their stage roles from the 2010 Tony Award-winning revival of the play, which Washington also directed.

This is the first revival of David Bösch’s new production, conducted by Richard Farnes and starring Dmitri Hvoros-tovsky, Anita Rachvelishvili, Lianna Haroutou-nian and Gregory Kunde.

Saint Joan 4 hrs w/ one intermission George Bernard Shaw’s classic play follows the life and trial of Joan of Arc, the 15th century French country girl who made it her divine mission to drive the English from France. Her military successes and subsequent martyrdom made her a national hero. Shaw brings an interesting interpretation to this dynamic story, which director Josie Rourke presents in an electrifying production. Gemma Arterton stars as Joan.

Hedda Gabler 3 hr 30 min w/ one intermission Hedda and Tesman have just returned from their honeymoon and the relationship is al-ready in trouble. Trapped but determined, Hed-da tries to control those around her, only to see her own world unravel. Tony Award-winning Ivo van Hove directs this modern production of Ibsen’s masterpiece. Ruth Wilson plays the title role in this new reworking by Patrick Marber.



Madama Butterfly 2 hr 45 min w/ one intermission East meets West with devastating conse-quences in Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier’s production of Puccini’s deeply poignant opera. Cio-Cio-San, the young Japanese bride of dashing American officer Lieutenant Pinkerton, finds her romantic idyll shattered when he deserts her shortly after their marriage. Antonio Pappano conducts an impressive cast led by Ermonela Jaho.

The Artist’s Garden: American Impressionism 1 hr 30 min This presentation is based on the hugely popular exhibition from the Florence Griswold Museum in Connecticut. The story of Ameri-can impressionism is closely tied to a love of gardens and a desire to preserve nature in a rapidly urbanizing nation.
