Digipaks are usually made with a paperback or card stock outer binding and one or more plastics trays which can hold a CD or DVD inside.

What’s it made of?

Digipaks sometimes have a UV coating on them to give them greater longevity and prevent fading and bleaching of the paper.

The Digipak is a patented style of optical disc packaging. The Digipak trademark is currently held by AGI-Shorewood who are an Atlas Holdings LLC company. The patent has been through several different companies over the years, though.

What is it?The Digipak began to grow in popularity in the early 2000s and was used by a lot of Record Labels and Artists.

Digipaks themselves were one of the first alternatives to the typical jewel cases used for CDs by the majority of large record companies.Because there is no other alternative name for the Digipak-style package the term is sometimes used in a generic sense.

Digipaks are mostly used for CD singles and special editions of CD albums. They can also be used as premium packages for DVDs or sets of DVDs.Despite being widely used nowadays Digipaks are less robust than Jewel cases and so are broken easier. Digipaks were introduced as an alternative to jewel cases as downloading music became popular. They were unique and so were used to bring in more customers.
