Life During The Berlin Wall

On August 13, 1962, on the east side of the Berlin wall...It was a another sleepless night at the camp, Thomas was snoring like a pig making it impossible to sleep and Hans was breathing on Friedrich’s face, his breath was at least 19c. It has been 2 years since Friedrich, Thomas and Hans got sent to the camp on the east side of the Berlin wall but it only seemed like it was yesterday, in his mind. It was the first day of November, Friedrich, Thomas and Hans were having lunch together. “ Does Lunch always has to be slop?s” asked ThomasWhile Hans came up with a reply Friedrich noticed a small crack in the wall where there were no guards, he thought to him self “Maybe Thomas, Hans and I can escape through that crack when nobody is looking?”

That night when the camp councilor told them to go to bed Friedrich whispered to Thomas and Hans his idea about escaping. “Hey guys, while we were eating lunch today I saw a small crack in the wall where the guards aren’t guarding, maybe tomorrow night we can sneak through that crack and we will be free.”Thomas was good on the idea but Hans had something to say. “ But Friedrich, tomorrow is Saturday, that is when the guards turn on the security cameras in the camp to the wall!” Friedrich forgot about that. “Then we just have to be extra careful that the cameras don’t spot us”. The next morning Thomas got up really early to get breakfast which was slop again. “again!!” he thought to him self When he went to the cafeteria to throw his breakfast away he noticed the counselor get a weird package and gives it to the head of the security. He told Hans and Friedrich about what he saw. “Maybe they know we’re going to escape” Hans said. “ It might be a electrical trap for intruders or run aways, we have to watch our step tonight.”The night came, when they thought the guards where gone to the sleeping hut Friedrich, Thomas and Hans sneaked out of their tent and went to the crack in the wall. When they were about to escape a sound alarmed for 5 seconds then stopped, at that moment they ran into 2 security guards. “Run aways” one of them shouted, Friedrich Thomas and Hans started to run but then Hans and Thomas started to slow down because 2 of them were okay runners but Friedrich was the fastest until he ran into the counselor of the camp. The counselor looked like he was going to explode but he shouted “Punishment will be in the morning!”

The morning came but Friedrich, Thomas and Hans already got their punishment, they had to eat, sleep and clean in the boys bathroom. “I hate the east side of the BERLIN WALL!!!!” Hans insulted. “If only a British agent would come to help, their the most awesome agents in the world, I watched them on T.V.!” said Thomas. “Yeah.” agreed Friedrich.“That’s it!” Friedrich shouted excitedly. “We’ll send a message to the British F.B.I. saying help and where we are but disguise it as a normal letter to some of our friends in Britain and ask them to send it to the British F.B.I.

November 4, Thomas sent the letter to the mail room and they sent the letter to Britain. It was November 6, As Hans was walking to the boys bathroom to eat there like their punishment a guy pulled him over to the side and into the janitor room and closed the door.Hans at first did not know what was happening but then the lights went on and a man with a agent suite spoke.“Are you Hans?” he asked. “Yes.” Hans replied.“I heard about your letter because your friend sent it to the F.B.I.” Hans knew he was the British F.B.I. “ Go get Friedrich and Thomas okay, we’re going to bring you back to west Berlin.” On that night the agent took them to the crack they saw earlier.“ Out we go.” but they did not know what was on the ground. The agent took one step to the crack and then he was electrocuted by the trap. “Didn’t think we were going to let you escape tonight.” it was the counselor! He’s good as dead and you will on December. “Take them away.” said the counselor. As the three boys went down the hall with one guard guarding them Thomas got sick and tired of being pushed so he punched and kicked the guard leaving him in a coma. He took the gun he had and Friedrich and Hans got away and hid in the closet which nobody uses. The next morning there was shouting and screaming. On January 1, 1963, Thomas and Hans escaped through the crack, but Friedrich got killed by the trap when the tried to escape after 10 days of staying in the closet.On June 12 1987 Mr. Ronald Reagan made a speech to Mr. Mikhail Gorbachev (the general secretary of the communist party on the east side of the Berlin wall) to tear down the Berlin wall.In 1989 the people tore down the Berlin wall.
