Walk—A– Thon

We have collected over $20,209 so far!!!

We are still getting letters each day

From the Principal’s Desk…… October was a very busy month for us and it seemed to fly

by. We started the month with a visit from the fire department for fire pre-

vention week, and stayed busy with fifth grade field trips to Washington

D.C. and Camp Hebron, Dads and Donuts, Red Ribbon Week, and ended

the month with our Leap for Learning Walkathon! Thank you to all the

parents that helped with those events.

We are now getting ready for the end of the first marking period.

Teachers are busy preparing report cards and are looking forward to dis-

cussing your student’s progress. Thank you in advance for showing interest

in your child’s education by attending their conference. We could not be

successful without you!

Keep in mind that November 20th is now a school day. The deci-

sion was made that November 20th and February 18th would be used as

make up days for the days that were lost due to Hurricane Sandy.

Finally, I would like to wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday

and I hope you enjoy the time with your family and friends.

PTO Corner: The PTO has had an extremely exciting start to the year! ( And we don’t just mean all the crazy weather.) We have had banner attendance at

every meeting and event, and we have gotten a lot done! If you’ve missed it, here’s a recap:

-played outside all afternoon for Take It Outside (over 75 kids!);

-walked to school (over 75 kids!);

-enjoyed breakfast in the company of dads and kids;

-hosted a stunningly successful Walk-a-Thon at the end of a zany Spirit Week!

That’s right, if you were curious, our Walk-a-Thon response is $20,209 and counting! Thank you, thank you, thank you for allowing us to

reach out to you, your friends and your family for this very important fundraiser. The amazing generosity of our community is overwhelm-ing. A special thanks to our Walk-a-Thon coordinators: Lori Geesaman and Amy Hess; great job, ladies! Thanks also to all the dads who came to Dads and Donuts with the kids! And a special thanks to the wonderful volunteers who put it to-gether! Thanks to Carolyn Leiberher for planning both the Take It Outside and Walk to School events! With the cancellation of our November PTO meeting, we want to be sure you don’t miss these upcoming events:

Art Clips from Mrs. Billy

Just a reminder that this Fall, we will not par-

ticipate in Art to Remember. We will wait until

Spring. Also, this year East Hanover will enter a

tree decorating contest at The Hershey Auto-

mobile Museum, the tree will be decorated with

ornaments made by students and will be dis-

played for viewing from Nov. 12- Jan. 6.

Body Mass Index

Screenings

About 35 percent of Pennsylvania’s children are overweight or at

risk of becoming overweight, according to a state Health Depart-

ment study of more than 25,000 students’ health records during the

2001-02 school year.

Students in kindergarten through twelfth grade will have their

body mass index (BMI) calculated as part of their yearly health

screening.

Nurse’s Corner

Children in Kindergarten and 3rd grade need to

have a dental examination this year. Please return your

child’s dental form to the Nurse’s office after your

child has the examination. Thank you for your atten-

tion to this matter.

Need Health Insurance? If you do not have

private Health Insurance or a Medical Assistance Card,

you may qualify for the Blue Chip Insurance for your

child/children. Contact the school Nurse for more

information about this FREE program.

REMINDER

CHILDREN’S GRIEF AWARENESS DAY

Monday, November 19th

Please encourage your child to wear BLUE on

Monday, November 19th in support of children who have lost a parent or sibling and are grieving. The painful death of a loved one can impact the life of a child in every aspect. Each year we wear BLUE to show our support of those students. Recently the 4th and 5th grade Helping Hands mem-bers held a coupon book sale to raise money for the Highmark Caring Place, a free grief center for children.

ATTENTION

KINDERGARTEN PARENTS

Parents, if an assembly is scheduled for a time

when your kindergarten child is not in school, you are

welcome to attend the assembly with your child by

bringing them to school during that time. You may sit

in the back with your child.

Inclement Weather - What is this Modified

Kindergarten we hear on the news?

This program will go into operation when we

experience a two-hour delay in the opening of school

due to inclement weather. When it is announced on

the radio and/or TV that the Lower Dauphin School

District is on a two-hour delay, our morning kindergar-

ten sessions will begin at 11:00 am and dismiss at

12:45 pm. There will be one hour between the morn-

ing and afternoon sessions, with the afternoon session

beginning at 1:45 pm and dismissing at 3:30 pm.

For example: If your child boards the school bus at

8:30am on a regular morning and a two-hour delay is

announced, your child would board the school bus at

10:30 am. If your child attends the afternoon session

and regularly boards the school bus at 12:20 pm and

the district has announced a two-hour delay, your child

would board the bus at 1:20 pm.

There is no KIDS program on delay days.

Picture Retakes Monday, November 12th School picture retake day is sched-uled for Monday, November 12 at 1:00 PM. Those students who are not satisfied with their picture must

give the entire unwanted package to the photogra-pher on the day of picture retakes. Any student who brought their money envelope in late will have their picture taken on this day. Parents of morning kinder-garten students will need to provide transportation for the retakes and should arrive at school at 1:00 PM. The school will be offering two options this spring a class picture with students names on the bottom and the class book. There will be individual class pictures taken for Grades K - 4. The 5th grade will have their traditional class picture taken as an entire class. Class book orders will be taken after the holidays.

Community Aid Donation Bins “NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS”

Clean out your closets And help our community!

Lower Dauphin Communities That Care has eight Com-munity Aid Donation bins located in the Lower Dauphin

community. These collection bins will accept your dona-tions of gently-used clothing, shoes, and accessories. LD

CTC receives a monetary donation based upon the amount of clothing donated and funds are used to provide

programs and services for children and families in our community!

Our bins can be found at the following East Hanover

township locations:
