House Bill 5 (HB 5)
• Beginning in the 2014-15 school year, a school must ensure that each student, on entering 9th grade, indicates in writing an endorsement that the student intends to earn.
House Bill 5 (HB 5)
• Foundation Plan – NCISD requires 26 credits
– Students graduating under the Foundation Plan (with no endorsement) will be approved on a case-by-case basis during junior or senior year of high school.
• Foundation + Endorsement (30 credits) – this is the recommended graduation plan– STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)– Business & Industry– Public Service– Arts & Humanities– Multidisciplinary (approval required)

• English Language Arts – 4 credits– English 1, English 2, English 3, Advanced English
• Math – 3 credits– Algebra 1, Geometry, Advanced Math
• Science – 3 credits– Biology, IPC or Advanced Science, Advanced Science
• Social Studies – 3 credits– US History, Government, Economics, World Geography OR World History
OR combined WH/WG course (NCISD does not offer the combined course)
• PE – 1 credit• Languages Other Than English – 2 credits in same language• Fine Arts – 1 credit• Electives – 5 credits (+4 additional classes)

Performance Acknowledgements
• Earned for outstanding performance in:– A dual credit course (at least 12 hours with grade
of B or higher)– Bilingualism and biliteracy– A score of 3 or higher on an AP test– Outstanding performance on SAT, PSAT, ACT:– For earning a nationally or internationally
recognized business or industry certification or license.

What is next?• Google form distributed the day after the parent meeting– The form will be “view only” at this time– Actual registration using the Google form will take place
during/after scheduled counselor meeting
• Counselors are meeting with students beginning the week of January 12– NCMS January 12 & 13 – KCMS January 15 & 16
• Counselors will be meeting in science classrooms to go over all choices with the students and walk them through a Google doc sample. There will be two counselors in each class each period.
