We Need your HELP!!
Youth & adult volunteers are needed to help during the fair. The 4-H Fair Committee & Fair Board
members volunteer many hours but also need your help to keep the fair running. Just a few hours
of your time during fair makes a big difference.
If the time slots are not filled for Building Host we must assign clubs to help (it’s better to volunteer
than to be assigned) or even close the building during those un-hosted hours. No Volunteers, no
building. All volunteers will be put into a drawing for a $40 Casey's Gift Card!
Sign up here http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c084ca9ab2ca6fc1-4hbuilding
4-H BUILDING HOSTS: Parents and other adult family members are asked to assist the youth in
watching the 4-H exhibit building. Shifts are two hours in length throughout the fair.
4-H DANCE CHAPERONES: Parents/Adults, Friday night 9:00-12:00!! Contact Whitney!
Color Run Help: Help throw color during the Clover Color Run/Walk - Contact Whitney!

Animal Arrival
All animals must have a Vet inspection. There are 2 ways for you to
accomplish this requirement.
1. Have your animal inspected by the Vet at your home and bring the
certificate of inspection with you to the fair. (This will cost you
whatever your vet charges.) With this certificate you may bring
animals to the fair at your convenience.
(Note the ** below.)
2. Bring your animal to the fair during the following times and the inspection will be done free by a Vet on the Fairgrounds.
Tuesday - 6:30pm-8:30pm
Wednesday - 6:00am-11:00am
**animals may not arrive prior to Tuesday July 25th
During Livestock Shows
To help ensure the safety of all, ONLY THE CURRENT EXHIBITOR(S) AND ONE ADULT ASSIS-
TANT MAY BE IN THE STAGING AREA, spectators must view the show in another location.
Please share this request with family and friends attending the shows.
Rabbits
Check in time for rabbits & cavies will be between 11:00-12:00 on Wednesday,
July 26th.
Each exhibitor must leave 2 rabbits for the duration of the fair (animals must
have been shown). If exhibitor only shows one rabbit that one must remain.
It is recommended that 4-H’ers secure the cage door so that they may not be
opened by passersby.
Ice Cream Contest
All ice cream must be made with a hand crank machine and be ready for
judging at 1:00pm, Sunday, July 30th. The rules & registration webform are
available at www.extension.iastate.edu/louisa/content/4-h-ice-cream-
contest Due by July 19th.

Auction
“DISCLOSURE STATEMENT:” Any beef, swine, sheep, or goats being con-
sidered for auction must be listed on the disclosure statement, with treat-
ment records listed if applicable. Turn this in during Fair week prior to sale.
This is what the Extension Office will keep on file for its link in COOL
documentation.
Animals changing ownership after being identified for a project are ineligible
to be exhibited as 4-H animals for that 4-H year.
Animals offered for sale in an animal auction are considered to have changed ownership even if
bought back by the original owner or if the owner refuses a bid or says, "No Sale." If you are ex-
hibiting an animal you plan to show at the State Fair or at the County Fair, be sure to remember
this.
Exhibitor Shirts
Do you have your plain white shirt, Exhibitor Shirt or FFA Shirt for your show?
Exhibitors are to wear a plain white t-shirt or Exhibitor Shirt that is long enough to be tucked in,
jean/slacks with no rips or tears, no open toed shoes & no hats.
This attire is also required on Monday during Conference Judging!!
Exhibitor shirts are available for purchase at the Extension Office in Wapello. $10 leading up to fair
Week.
All first year 4-H members will receive one free shirt that can be picked up at the Extension Office.
Sizes and availability are first come first serve.

4-H Conference/Static Judging A STATIC EXHIBIT IS ANY NON-ANIMAL EXHIBIT. ALL STATIC EXHIBITS ARE JUDGED ON
SATURDAY, JULY 22, DURING “CONFERENCE” JUDGING. READ THIS PAGE FOR MORE
INSTRUCTIONS.
All exhibits must be pre-entered! Deadline July 19th louisa.fairenty.com
Entry Tag—Each exhibit will receive a pre-printed
Entry Tag at Check in on Saturday Morning. These
tags will then be attached to your exhibits.
Goal Sheet (one for each exhibit) Goal sheets
must be complete before judging. Any goal sheet
requested on judging day will cost $1.
Premiums—As soon as ALL of your static exhibits
have been judged Check Out at the Ribbon tent on
the west side of the Youth Center. All Premium
checks will be printed at the conclusion of Fair and
sent to your club leaders.
Judging will take place in the Youth Center. You
will enter in through the East entrance under the
awning and exit to the west by the campers.
Plan on arriving 10 minutes before your
scheduled club time to check-in. Those who
have a conflict with their assigned judging time
should contact the Extension Office before fair.
Wear your 4-H attire! Plain white shirt, 4-H Shirt
or Exhibitor shirt!!
Remember it helps to speak clearly & make eye
contact during your conference judging
experience.
Parents are not allowed at the judging table.
Parents may enter the Youth Center to check
in & take a picture and then must leave.
Too many bodies in the doorways creates
confusion for youth being judged and volunteers
assisting with the judging process. Youth are
allowed to record their judging if they would like.
GOAL SHEETS
The Goal Sheet forms are at the Extension Of-
fice and online:
extension.iastate.edu/louisa/countyfair
There are 3 different goal sheets:
~Goal Sheet
~Photo Goal Sheet
~Poster Goal Sheet
A goal sheet is required for each 4-H static ex-
hibit that you bring to conference judging on July
22nd The more descriptive you are the better.
The actual goal sheet form does not have to be
used—just make sure the questions are an-
swered.
These questions are the same questions that
the judges will ask during conference judging:
1) What did you plan to learn or do?
2) What steps did you take to learn or do this?
Explain what you did so it is easily under-
stood. The judge wants to know and under-
stand the steps you used to make your ex-
hibit.
3) What were the most important things you
learned?
Judging Schedule:

Copyright
As 4-H’ers prepare exhibits for the fair they need to be particularly aware of copyright rules. A
copyright design cannot be displayed in a public setting (fair) without permission being
granted from the owner of the copyright.
Duplication of copyright material or design should not be used in a 4-H exhibit that is presented as
original work by the exhibitor. Pay special attention to paintings, drawings, sketches, etc. that are
based on another work (ex: photo, calendar, painting). A red flag should go up anytime the source
is given as “photo from a magazine”, “photo from the Internet”, “photo in a book”. These would all
be considered derivative works and only the copyright holder can authorize a derivative work. Un-
less the original work is in the public domain (generally pre-1923), permission needs to be ob-
tained for the member to exhibit these types of pieces at the Iowa State Fair. If the source or per-
mission is questionable, that item will not likely be selected for exhibit at the state fair.
More explanation and instructions for requesting permission can be found in the Copyright paper.
Food Exhibit Reminders
Read the 4-H Food & Nutrition section of the fair book.
The recipe must be included for any prepared food exhibit; credit the source.
Foods requiring refrigeration are not an appropriate exhibit.
For a detailed explanation of Inappropriate Food Exhibits for Iowa 4-H Fairs go to
www.extension.iastate.edu/Publications/4H3023.pdf or call the Extension Office for a copy.
Preserved Foods All food exhibits that have been processed in some way will need to have a processing label
attached to the exhibit.
Information to be included on the label is the type of food, method of preservation, processing
time, pressure (if appropriate), the date processed, and the source of the recipe.
Current USDA or ISU guidelines for home preservation must be used.
