in our cafe. Get them motivated now before the holiday parties, weather cools, resolutions are

concocted to make those positive lifestyle changes.

How about losing 10lbs before Thanksgiving, and discovering healthy eating habits to better

control what you put into your body? We can teach you ways to manage temptation, raise your

metabolism and get you on track to being in the best shape of your life. All you have to do is

simply ask. Our professional staff and trainers are here to help facilitate and make your goals a

Mark's Success Story

What made you decide to make a change?

Ever since I was a kid, I have been very

into sports. During my teenage and

adolescent years I did a lot of endur-

ance training, but recurring running

and cycling injuries made me want to

focus my athletic and health efforts on

something else. It wasn’t until I did a

functional movement screening and

fitness test that I realized how limited

my mobility, flexibility and upper body

strength had become. That was the

moment I decided I was going to give

it my all to combat my weaknesses and

improve my overall physical strength

and health.

What challenges have you experienced as it relates to health and fitness?

Due to the various physical challenges

I had to conquer (tight hamstrings and

hip flexors, lack of glute activation and

shoulder immobility just to name a few),

it was sometimes a challenge in itself to

“stick to the program” and not give up. I

also quickly came to realize that reach-

ing optimal health is not just about

working out. Proper nutrition, in fact, is

equally if not more important than the

physical act of going to the gym. Given

the abundance of junk and quick food

options all around us, it can be a big

challenge to maintain a healthy diet.

But top performance requires top fuel!

How have you overcome these challenges?

From the beginning I realized it wasn’t

going to be easy and would require

a lot of hard work and dedication if I

wanted to improve. But after the initial

struggles, I felt my body getting stronger

and became addicted to the results

I was seeing. I saw marked improve-

ments in my posture, flexibility and ap-

pearance, and was able to lift heavier

weights as the months went on. Those

were great motivations to keep me go-

ing. After pushing through the first few

months, fitness and nutrition became a

passion and now they are an important

part of my everyday life.

Your advice to others who might be going through similar struggles?

Sticking to a workout plan can be

tough in the beginning, especially if

you’re not used to working out on a very

frequent basis. I have come to be-

lieve that your health should be a top

priority. Transform your attitude towards

fitness and nutrition to be consistent

and proactive about them. Schedule

your workouts into your calendar as if

they are non-negotiable appointments.

Quickly enough, working out becomes

a habit, and you just do it as part of

your daily routine.

Have you been working with a Trainer?

Yes. I have been working with PT Chris Guerrero on a regular basis, and every

training session has been the best!

How has working with a Trainer/ Coach helped you in your fitness journey?

Working with a trainer is by far the best

investment I have ever made in my

health, especially given that I was

completely new to the gym experience.

Chris has helped me learn a lot of

movements and lifts. Although I always

push myself when I workout, my trainer

has helped me extend my limits even

further. When you’re exercising with a

trainer, you can be confident that your

form is correct. Not only will your

chances of getting an injury be

drastically reduced when using proper

technique, your workouts will also be

much more efficient!

Welcome to the Spa by Tricia Sterling

Get to know our products

Some of you may have already been lucky enough to

experience a PCA peel since we introduced it in De-

cember. This is a cosmeceutical line that can address

specific concerns like anti aging, hyperpigmentation

and acne.

We have also brought in LifeLine, which is the only stem

cell product I have found to be ethical and moral with

their harvesting. For the months of September and

October, The Spa will offer a complimentary travel size

($40 value) with a full size purchase of the line’s day or

night cream, eye treatment or a scrub.

Announcing Jane Iredale Mineral Makeup – Typically only

available in plastic surgeons’ offices, this line has the FDA

certified Sun Protection Factor and will not come off your

skin unless you wash it off. The powders interact with the

natural moisture found in your skin to look soft and supple.

The Spa also carries the line’s BB creams. Please feel free

to stop by The Spa Desk where any of our Concierges will

be happy to color match you for the perfect fit.

Be sure to book your 25 minute HydraFacial treatment at our Spa event on September 20th from 8am to 12pm! We’ll be offering special package pricing and discounts on product at the event.

Training with Justine by Amy Carr Trainers Monthly Challenge

Working with Justine

has changed the way

I feel about my body

and how I move. She

also helps me inte-

grate foam rolling and

particular stretches

into my daily routine

that make a huge im-

pact on my ability to

continue playing soccer, have great workouts, and feel good

even though I sit a lot for work. She challenges me during our

training sessions in ways I would never do myself, and has

helped me improve my posture through core strengthening

and corrective movements. Justine has helped educate me

about nutrition. I feel so much better eating smaller meals

throughout the day now. I see positive changes in my body

when I follow her guidance.

HEROES CLIMB

CVAC has dramatically changed my life! As a health care professional, I was intrigued by the idea of cellular conditioning and

repair and found my first session startling because of the benefits I received from just one 20 minute session. Changes I observed

included:

1. Reduction of pain in my back, muscles and joints2. Deep REM sleep3. Increased athletic endurance and capacity during workouts4. Quicker recovery from workouts

I started increasing my sessions and found evidence of true cellular healing in places I had not

been able to heal with my own body resources. Due to my constant air travel schedule, my

Eustachian tubes are damaged and do not function properly. I have to have tubes replaced

in my ears every 6-8 months to continue flying without further damage to my ear drums. 6

weeks ago I actually developed a perforation in my right ear drum as well as other fissures.

Normally these would take a long time to heal but within 4 weeks the holes closed on their

own. In addition, the perforations in the left ear demonstrated for the first time in a year signs

of healing. It’s clear to me that CVAC played a role in this medical accomplishment and I am

forever grateful for the opportunity to experience firsthand the benefits of CVAC. My sleep has

changed for the better. Now if I could only stay on the ground longer in San Diego,

I might find many more positive benefits of this incredible technology!

Jill Pordy was a dancer who strug-

gled with extreme back and neck

pain due to scoliosis. She began

Pilates in 2009 and was able to

transform her body and even help

her scoliosis through the Stott Pilates

method. After recognizing the power

of Pilates, she decided to pursue

it further and became certified in

2011. She's a certified Zenga in-

structor through Stott Pilates which

marries the Stott. Pilates method with

yoga philosophy. Jill is also a certified holistic Health Coach

through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and has studied

over a hundred dietary theories. She specializes in weight

loss, and hormonal diseases such as PCOS.

Susan has been working in the fitness

industry since her senior year in high

school. While at UCLA, she worked

as an instructor and fitness trainer for

the Wooden Center. Upon gradua-

tion, she was able to work at UCLA’s

physical therapy center, specializing

in post-injury fitness and rehabilita-

tion of stroke patients. For the past

seven years, she has been working

at a wellness center in Napa, where

she helped create a sports perfor-

mance program, trained clients, taught Turbokick, and lead

weight loss groups. For fun she coached a junior high school

competitive dance team, persuaded clients to join her in the

Tahoe Tough Mudder 2012 & 2013, and let her co-workers talk

her into competing in a figure competition—twice.
