NO ADORATION
LISTEN TO JESUS AND THE PROPHETS Prophets have always had a tough row to hoe. Their words, often unwelcome, are used against
them to persecute and even kill them. Such was the fate of the Old Testament prophets, and Jeremiah is
a great example of this. Jesus endured opposition from sinners, and did not turn back from a shameful
death in order to rise to a glorious new life. The ultimate prophet, Jesus sought to warn the people of his
time and ours of the divisions that his words would cause, showing himself to be the prophet of all time.
We all need to look at our divisions and dilemmas in light of Jesus’ teachings and warnings, and seek to
understand all that he has proclaimed and taught about what will happen if we fail to listen.
TODAY’S READINGS
First Reading — They took Jeremiah and threw him into the cistern (Jeremiah 38:4-6, 8-10). Psalm — Lord, come to my aid! (Psalm 40). Second Reading — Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and per-fecter of faith (Hebrews 12:1-4). Gospel — I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were al-ready blazing (Luke 12:49-53).

The PRESENT is the only time you have to merit Heaven and escape Hell. The PAST you cannot recall, and of the FUTURE, you are not sure. Be sure to use the present well and decide daily whether you wish to be in Heaven or in Hell. ------ Baltimore Catechism No. 4, #421

Baltimore Catechism The Confiteor - Penitential Act
Q. What should we think of when we say the Confiteor? We imagine entering Heaven. We see God, the Blessed Virgin, thousands of angels, Apostles, all the saints, martyrs, confessors, doctors and virgins. We kneel down in the presence of the whole court of Heaven to acknowledge our sins and faults, while all listen. We ask them to help by their prayers to beg God’s pardon for us.
Q. What is the substance of the “act of faith”?

Many Catholics forget that the purpose of Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation is reconciliation, not punishment. We focus on the scary part of facing weaknesses and admitting our failings to another being, but confession is just one part of the Sacrament. What is so GREAT about this Sacrament is that God longs to forgive us and offers this chance to directly experience his unending mercy and forgiveness. A RESTORATION TO INTEGRITY: Through it, we are freed from guilt. When we approach the Sacrament with a contrite heart, a desire to make amends, and a determination to change, we become transformed. We can leave remorse behind and live a new
life. It is this Sacrament that enable us to again hold our heads as children of God. A CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH GOD: created by Jesus, this is a celebration of our Father’s unconditional love and a chance to acquire the grace we need to meet future challenges and temptations.
