HARRISTOWN STATE SCHOOL
NEWSLETTER Success for all through learning, respect, responsibility and safety
Thursday 30th August 2018 “Towards Excellence Together” 14/18
From the Principal’s Desk – Mr Jonathan Druce
With only three weeks left of term 3, classes are getting in to assessment as the units of work come to a close. Students are reminded of our school value ‘learning’ and the expectations around all students trying their best and participating in all lessons.
INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE Unfortunately, there has been a spike in inappropriate language used in the school by students lately. Students and families are reminded that swear words are not appropriate language in a school environment, and will not be tolerated. If students use inappropriate words in general conversation, they will be written up and a consequence will be applied. All students and staff have the right to be treated respectfully and feel safe at school and as a staff, we will not tolerate students swearing at or about staff or other students. If a student is heard swearing at or about a student, this will be written as a major behaviour, the student will be in the SSC and parents will be notified. Students are encouraged to ignore this behaviour, turn, walk away and then report the behaviour to a staff member. If a student is heard swearing at or about a staff member, this will be referred as a major behaviour and the student will receive a suspension. The length of the suspension will depend on the severity and number of incidences. I trust parents and families will join us in ridding our school of inappropriate language. PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS This is the last reminder for parents and carers to book an interview with your child/ren’s class teacher. The interviews will be held in the afternoon on Monday 10
th September, in the hall. Letters were sent home last week and
will be sent again soon to remind families to book an appointment. First in will secure a preferred spot.
SAFETY CONTACTS
You will notice new posters in our classrooms and in prominent places within the school. The posters have our school safety contacts – Staff that students can see with safety concerns. The posters in classes include a picture of the class teacher, who students are always able to see with concerns. Student protection is an important part of the Health and Wellbeing for students at Harristown State School. If you would like more information on the safety contacts, please contact me through the office.

Respect-Eyes on ears on speaker.

appropriate language and talk at school.
Hero Day for Term 3
Hero Day and Hero Morning Tea are fast approaching! Hero Day is going to be
exciting and so much fun. We cannot wait. Keep up the great work HSS students!
The following expectations are in place for Hero Day Term 3:
Students who have consistently demonstrated HSS values and expectations and do not have a behaviour
referral will attend Hero Day.
Students with one major, 3 of the same minors within a week or 5 minors overall, will not attend PBL Hero
Day.
Students who have less than 80% attendance for Term 3 will not be eligible for Hero Day. This is
equivalent to missing 10 school days this term. That is equivalent to 2 weeks. (Unless a medical certificate
is provided and/ or principal discretion).
Teachers will send home notes to advise parents if their child is attending or not attending Hero Day.
FATHER’S DAY BREAKFAST- LOWER PRIMARY

25 new families attending. If you have a child who will attend Prep for 2019 please see the office so we can add
