St Matthew’s School Narrogin
ST MATTHEW’S CATHOLIC SCHOOL HAS A DEEP AND LASTING CONCERN TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES THAT ENABLE EACH CHILD TO GROW AS GOD INTENDS.
Dear Parents and Carers,
The Most Holy Trinity Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen
The Most Holy Trinity - Sunday 11 June The Sunday after Pentecost is celebrated as the feast of the Most Holy Trinity. This timing is deliberate, coming as it does after the commemorations of the life, passion and resurrection of Christ at Easter and of the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. The Solemnity of the Holy Trinity leads us to contemplate and worship the divine life of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We believe that God’s very self is a relationship - Creator, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that relationship pours love into the world. The Trinity, this God of relationships, seeks to save the world, not condemn it.
P& F Meeting Date Change Please note there has been a change made to the P&F Meeting date, as Mrs Milton and I will be attending the Leading a Digital School PD on Monday next week. The P&F meeting scheduled for next week will now take place on Monday 19th June at 7pm.
Formal School Reports The formal report for Semester One will be provided to parents online this year. Parents will be able to view or print reports from their personal computers and devices. We will provide more information about how this will occur toward the end of the term. Please contact the school if you have any concerns about this new process.
Winter carnival Students in Year 4—6 will take part in the Interschool Winter Carnival next Tuesday. Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to assist Mrs Kilpatrick, who has coordinated this day. We hope it is a fun day for all the children involved. Let us head out to the day in the spirit that it is intended: participation, engagement and fun!
Pyjama Day! It was great to see all of the staff and students getting into the spirit of Pyjama Day. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we were able to raise over $350 yesterday toward the
purchase of an animal for the Flores Schools. Mr Dowie will be bringing visitors with him from Flores on 22 June so that we can present them with our combined donations. Safety House This morning I met with the local police, Shire, and Principals to talk with the CEO of Safety House Aust. As a community, we are looking at starting this excellent program again in Narrogin. We would like a representative from our school to be a part of the
committee that is being formed. Please contact me via the office if you might be willing to be on the committee.
Have a wonderful weekend!

SCHOOL PHONE NUMBER
Parents will remember that in February 2016 the school received a new phone system. For the first 12-16 months, any call made to the school using the old phone number would have been automatically directed to the school. As we are nearing the end of this arrangement, we ask that all families now ensure that the correct number is locked into their mobiles etc.
The number that should be recorded “everywhere” in your
house is: 98539500.
TERM DATES FOR STUDENTS 2017
VERY IMPORTANT
Please follow these procedures for our Absentee Recording.
1. Parents contact the office (by phone) advising student name and class on the day of absence. (By 9.00am)
2. Teachers and Mrs D collate data. 3. Parents who have failed to contact the office will receive an SMS message to notify of their child’s absence. It is very important that parents ring the school office back immediately after receiving the SMS. This will save the school office having to make a follow up phone call. 4. Long Term Absences should be advised in writing to
both the Office and Classroom Teacher. 5. Students who are late or leaving early must call into the
office to complete the necessary paperwork.
Many thanks to those parents who have started to contact the school office advising of their child’s absence. It is very much
appreciated.

THIS WEEK’S CATHOLIC JOKE
This week’s Catholic joke: (These are taken from “The Book of Catholic Jokes” collated by Deacon Tom Sheridan. These jokes are about Catholics or about Catholic practices, beliefs or customs. They reflect the Catholic incarnational sensibility that God is present in the everyday occurrences of daily life. But they are also “catholic” because they are for and about everyone, which is what “catholic” really means. Enjoy them…laughter is music for the soul!)
There was a flood that threatened a village. One man said to everyone, “I’m staying! God will save me!”
The flood started and a boat came by, and the man in it said “Come on, get in.”
“No!” said the man. “God will save me!”
The waters kept rising, and by now the man had climbed onto the roof. A helicopter zoomed in and offered to rescue the man. “No!” he said, “God will save me!” Eventually, the man drowned. At the gates of heaven, he expressed his disappointment to God: “Why didn’t you save me?”
God said, “For goodness sake, child! I sent a boat and a helicopter. What more did you want?”

How can God beget a son? Does that mean Jesus is his creation?
I think that perhaps C.S. Lewis described it best in Mere Christianity: We don't use the words begetting or begotten much in modern English, but everyone still knows what they mean. To beget is to become the father of: to create is to make. And the differ-ence is this. When you beget, you beget something of the same kind as yourself. A man begets human babies, a beaver begets little beavers, and a bird begets eggs which turn into little birds. But when you make, you make something of a different kind from yourself. A bird makes a nest, a beaver builds a dam, a man makes a wireless set—or he may make something more like himself than a wireless set: say, a statue. If he is a clever enough carver he may make a statue which is very like a man indeed. But, of course, it is not a real man; it only looks like one. It cannot breathe or think. It is not alive. Now that is the first thing to get clear. What God begets is God; just as what man begets is man. What God creates is not God, just as what man creates is not man. By saying that Jesus is begotten from the Father, we are say-ing that Jesus is fully God and not a creation of God (Arianism), nor is the Son of God simply a mode or action of God (Sabellianism).

PYJAMA DAY
Look What’s Been Happening In Year 2!
In Religion, we have been learning about families. We are painting a special occasion with our family.
Cellophane Masks Art activity
In writing, we have been learning about poems. These are some of our fantastic Shape Poems. We have
also been learning about quotation marks. In these pic-
tures we are looking for them in narratives.
