TRANSCRIPT
Dear Parents and Community Members…..
What a chilly start to the week! As usual, it
seems to be the grown-ups who feel the cold and
comment on the weather, while it almost seems to go
unnoticed by the children. Nonetheless, if the
sudden change has caught you by surprise and your
child needs something warmer, remember that
student jackets can be purchased from the front
office and fleece jumpers from Flannagan’s. Please
do ensure that items of clothing are clearly marked
with your child’s name.
Good luck to our Netball and Touch teams
who are off to Glen Innes for trials on Thursday –
let’s hope the weather is kind to them there. The
Soccer team is going to Shirley Park tomorrow and
might have it a little warmer here than in Glen
Innes!
We have both the P&C and AECG meetings at
school this week. I encourage parents to consider
coming along. It is a great way to be involved in
decision making, or just in generally helping out as
you are able.
The committee responsible for overseeing
the 150 Years of Public Education in Tenterfield
celebrations has started to get things underway. If
you have any items such as photos, old school books
and uniforms, or any other items of interest that
you are willing to lend us, please do start bringing
them in. We can copy and return photographs and
the like, or otherwise clearly label and store items
for you that might be useful for display in October.
(Dates for celebrations are Friday 10th and
Saturday 11th October). If we get items in early, it
will give us a good idea of what we have on hand for
making displays and how much room we will need.
Please do keep letting family and friends know that
the event is occurring. They may wish to return to
Tenterfield if they live away, or start thinking of
stories to share about their experiences of
schooling here.
Have a great week everyone,
Sue Coleman
GRIP Leadership Conference
Yesterday, our student leaders and Indigenous
leaders attended a leadership conference in
Armidale. The day included four interesting
leadership lessons, many fun filled games and great
quizzes. The students were taught about the
qualities of a great leader such as H.E.R.O (Helper,
Encourager, Role Model and Organiser). Students
were also encouraged to lead like a strawberry and
not like a watermelon (referring to leading with
integrity and being the same person on the outside as
you are on the inside). We would like to thank Mr
Pryce for allowing us to accompany his students from
Mingoola Public School on their school bus and Miss
Coats for coming with us. The students gained a lot
of interesting information and had an amazing, fun
day!

us for a fun night out. For more
information please see the front office.
Mother’s Day Stall
We will be holding our Mother’s Day stall
this Thursday and Friday-
Gift prices range from 50c-$4.
Crunch and Sip Crunch and Sip has started again. All
classes participate in Crunch and Sip at
approximately 10am each week day. Students
are encouraged to bring one piece of fruit or
vegetable (eg. apple, mandarin, pear, corn on
cob, carrot, peeled or cut up orange) or a small
container of fruit or vegetables (eg.
strawberries, grapes, watermelon cut up, diced
or thin sticks of celery, carrot, capsicum or
cucumber) or a handful of seeds and nuts or
fruit in a fruit cup (MUST be in natural juice
NOT syrup). Students are also encouraged to
bring a drink of water. Studies have shown this
small break increases a student’s concentration
while promoting the importance of healthy
eating.
Health Message - Premier’s Sporting
Challenge Last week, students from Kindergarten
to Year 6 and most of the staff began the
Premier’s Sporting Challenge. The challenge aims
to promote a healthy lifestyle by emphasizing
the importance of being active. ALL ages are
encouraged to do moderate activity for at least
30minutes (any exercise/activity which has your
heart beating faster eg. brisk walking, jogging,
playing football, kicking the ball around, walking
the pet, mowing the lawn with a push lawn
mower, gardening, vacuuming).
You don’t have to do the thirty minutes in
one go – you may do 10 minutes in the morning
and 20 minutes in the afternoon. PLEASE sup-
port your child/ren in this activity and why not
join them? Just imagine the games you can play
while spending more time together and being an
AMAZING role model.
School Cross Country Last term, all students from K-6 were
given a note regarding our school cross country.
This event will be held this week on Friday,
May 9th at 10am at our school. All students who
participate will receive a FREE fruit ice-block.
All family members are welcome and
encouraged to attend the event to support all
the students.
School Cross Country Fundraiser
Once again, as part of our annual K-6 School
Cross Country, our school will be conducting a major
fundraiser for this term so we do ask for your
support. This event will be held on Friday, May 9th.
Family support is most appreciated. Funds raised will
provide additional resources for the students such as
Sport, Science and Technology and Art resources and
new blazers. Students have received a sponsorship
form with a selection of over 70 prizes to choose from
such as Nerf, Sony, Hot Wheels, Razor, iPods Shuffles
and more. After the event, students are encouraged
to collect their money from their sponsors and return
the MONEY AND SPONSOR FORM (clearly indicate
the chosen prize) to your child’s classroom teacher
A.S.A.P.
If you have misplaced your sponsorship form,
please see your child’s classroom teacher or the
office. We ask you to seek donations for $2 or $4 or
$5 or $10 per sponsor. Students who receive $10 or
more in donations will be entitled to a prize of their
choice. Also on offer is a 2GB MP3 player for the
highest fundraising student and a free surprise party
for the highest fundraising class. Each student will
also receive a Berri Quelch frozen juice stick on the
day of the event. WIN A FAMILY HOLIDAY TO
THE GOLD COAST OR HAMILTON ISLAND OR
FIJI – each student/family has the chance to win a
family holiday simply by raising $10 or more.
For more details on this promotion and how to
enter, please view page three of the Sponsorship Form
or go to www.myschoolathon.com.au
Happy fundraising, and we look forward to see-
ing you at our K-6 School Cross Country to cheer on
the students.

supper, prizes and also a small donation to assist our
sponsor child and their community in Vietnam to have
