Congratulations to all our grade 8 students on your accomplishments throughout your years at Greensborough. It is time to close one chapter of your life and begin another. We are extremely proud of each and every one of you. Good luck with your future endeavors! A big thank you to everyone who dedicated their time to volunteer at Greensbor- ough P.S. this year. Your time is so valuable, and your dedication is appreciated. We would also like to thank our wonderful School Council. They are a group of dedicated individuals who meet once a month throughout the school year to discuss topics related to our school community. They offer their suggestions and support to make our school a better place for student well being and achievement. We are always looking for new members so consider joining us in September. We want to extend our sincere thanks to the staff we have at Greensborough Public School. Early Dismissal in Elementary Schools

Wednesday, June 29th, 2016

All schools in the York Region District School Board are committed to im-proving student achievement and well-being. On Wednesday, June 29th, 2016 an early release day will take place to allow elementary teachers and support staff to take part in meetings during the afternoon of that day. These meetings will allow for school staff to engage in culminating activities regard-ing the review and revision of the School’s Improvement Plan as well as year-end and transition activities that support student success.

As has been our practice in the past, students will attend school during the morning of Wednesday, June 29th, 2016 only. Students will be dismissed early that day at 12:00p.m. Arrangements will be made to ensure that students who are normally bused to and from school will receive transportation at this time. Parents/guardians whose children attend after school child care should make appropriate arrangements to address this change in schedule.

Message from our Trustee

As the school year comes to a close, I would like to thank you for all that you have done to help make this school year a successful one for our students.

We share a common goal - to give our young people every opportunity to reach their full potential, and we all have a role to play in supporting that goal. However you choose to get involved, your engagement and support make a difference. We know that good schools become better schools when they are connected with families.

Thanks to the ongoing efforts of our students, families, staff members and community part-ners, we are creating a welcoming, caring and inclusive learning environment that fosters student achievement and well-being.

As we move into summer, I encourage you to seek out opportunities to continue and complement the learning that takes place throughout the school year. That could mean taking a nature walk, visiting a museum or reading a book. Whatever your plans are over the next few months, I hope you have a safe, relaxing and enjoyable summer.

Fundraising for Fort McMurray Once again the Greensborough community proved that they are a caring community. We were all moved by the stories of those who lost everything in the Fort McMurray fire. The images of the raging wild fire were haunt-ing. Our school community came together to do some-thing to help those in need.

A special mention goes to some very special young people who felt tremendous em-pathy for those affected by the fire and could not stay on the sidelines. First, a big shout out goes to the students in Mrs Alvi's class who wrote a poem, The Red Flower, and made envelopes in which to collect money. Then, there are those four grade 5 students, June, Tiffany, Raeesah and Akila from 5M who sold lemonade in the park one hot, hazy weekend. Initiative was certainly demonstrated by three stu-dents from 7R, Jenny, Abenaya and Harine. These girls gave up many recesses to sell freezies and other treats to the students. It was a huge success. They raised an impressive $403 for the victims of Fort McMurray.

In total, we raised $1405.59 for the Canadian Red Cross. Thank you to all the fami-lies for caring. Together we really can make a difference.

Looking for Lego Greensborough P.S. is looking for lego. If you have any lego that you would like to donate to the school, please drop it off at the main office. Any new or used lego pieces would be greatly appreciated!

Library Books All library books are due back to the library

Monday, June 13.

Green Team The Green Team would like to thank Kim's Nature, Fairgreen Sod and Canadian Tire Garden Centre (Markham Rd/Hwy 407) for their generous donations for the gardens beside the new kindergarten pens. Staff, parents and students have been helping us and we are very grateful. It is a work in progress -- stay tuned!
