“A Living School”

From the Administrators: Can you believe that it is April? The Spring weather has yet to arrive. Students are encouraged to dress for the weather and be prepared for the varying weather conditions that come with Spring. Although we have three months of the school year remaining, we are starting to look ahead to next school year, in terms of planning.

Every year in late May or early June, we organize classes for the following year. Input is appreciated from parents when we are making these placement decisions. Our main objective is to create classes that will provide the optimum learning environment for everyone.

We will soon be beginning to make decisions about the next school year. If you will not be returning to Greensbor-ough in September, please write a note to the school informing us of your intentions. This will help us in getting a sense of our class sizes for next year.

We recognize that children have their own learning styles. We appreciate that parents have valuable information to share with us as we make placement decisions based on children’s capabilities, gender, work habits and behaviours. Teachers have the benefit of knowing the children with whom they are currently working. We rely on their profes-sional decisions. If you have information or suggestions regarding your child’s learning style, which will help teachers make an appropriate placement, please write a note to Mr. Spiers before May 2nd.

Requests will be accommodated only where placement will enhance a child’s learning. Parents are reminded that schools combine classes for a variety of reasons. This includes organizing classes to meet student learning needs and combining classes to balance class size. All classrooms include students with a range of skills and abilities. They are simply one of the many ways schools meet students’ academic and social development needs. Requests for class placements will be considered where it will enhance a child’s learning but with no guarantees.

The grade 3 and 6 students will be taking part in the EQAO Provincial Assessment of Reading, Writing and Math between May 25-29, 2018. Please do not book any appointments for your child during these days as students must complete the entire assessment.

believe and how we behave.

details regarding time and place will follow.

Interesting facts about single-use plastic bags:

- an average family will use about 10-15 plastic bags (produce/grocery) every trip to the grocery store.- 5 trillion plastic bags are produced yearly, circling the world 7 times put side-by-side- it takes 700-1000 years for plastic to degrade which means NONE of the plastic ever made has fully degraded.- only 1-3% of plastic bags are recycled worldwide.- plastic bags cause the death of many marine animals when they are mistaken for food.- plastic bags leach toxins into the ground and water systems.*from "The World Counts"*

The dates are:

Earth Week: April 16 - 20

Did you know that we will be having a CHALLENGE at GREENSBOROUGH! Bring in all single-use plastic bags for recycling and a chance to win a Trek bench (bench made from recycled bags).

On April 5th, Greensborough held our annual Diversity Fair. The evening was a huge success! We were overwhelmed by how many people were in attendance; enjoying the multitude of entertainment as well as several interactive stations. The food was also delicious! It was an amazing opportunity to come together and celebrate the diversity of our community. This diversity remains our strength. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Mosaic committee at Greensborough for their hard work and dedication in planning this spectacular event. Headed by Mrs. Maybury, this team was responsible for the organization and planning of this incredible evening. Thank you also to our wonderful Greensborough staff and School Council who came out in full force and supported, throughout the evening.

Thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy the evening!

If you are planning on moving during the summer and are no longer in the Greensborough area, please let our office know as soon as possible. We are currently planning our organization for next year and knowing who will be here really helps us out!

Kindergarten registration is happening now, for the 2018-19 school year. Registration forms are available on YRDSB’s website: www.yrdsb.ca. Children who turn four or five years old during 2018, live within the school boundary and whose parents are public school tax supporters will be eligible to register for kindergarten. A kindergarten information session for parents is being planned for this spring. For more information please visit the YRDSB website or contact your local school.

Reminder:From time to time, students forget important items in the desk or locker that they need in the evening. We encourage students to double check they have all of their materials before going home however, sometimes items are forgotten. If you must bring your child back to school to get work, please do so before 4:00 pm.
