The following students were elected by the grade 7 and 8 students for the Greensborough P.S. Student Council: Prime Minister: OliviaDeputy Prime Minister : MitaliMinister of Finance: AbiParliamentary Secretary: NabihaMinister of School Spirit: Aneesa

They are a fantastic group of students that have shown great dedication to their positions. So far this year they have planned a wonderful Fall/Orange and Black/Halloween Day. The Primary Grades enjoyed a parade through the Junior and Intermediate Hallways. The Grades 4 and 5 enjoyed games in the FUN HOUSE, located in Room 227. The Grades 6, 7, 8 enjoyed an afternoon of DANCING and Games in the gym and they collected over 75 nonperishable items that will be donated to the Markham Food Bank. There was also a CLOSET DOOR DECORATING CONTEST. The doors were so AMAZING. Each division received a prize: Kindies and Primary Division Winner: Mrs. Turner's Grade 2/3 class Junior Division Winner: Mr. Ladoceur’s Grade 5/6 class Intermediate Division Winner: Mr. Hambly's Grade 8 class. Stay tuned for future GPS Student Council initiatives and thank you for your ongoing support.

The Grade 8 Fundraising Committee started their Tuck Shop in October and it has been well received by the students at GPS. The Tuck Shop will be open every Wednesday and Friday and everything sold costs $1. Thanks for supporting the Grade 8 students of GPS!

We strongly encourage students to bring their lunch with them to school each day if they are staying for lunch. From time to time, we realize that sending a lunch ahead of time may not be possible and lunches need to be dropped off. If you must drop off a lunch to your child, kindly do so between 12:30 and 12:50 p.m. before lunch begins. It is also helpful if you LABEL all lunch bags and water bottles. Thank you for your support!

We will be holding our Remembrance Day

assembly on Friday, November 10 at 11:15 a.m. Please feel free to join us in the

gymnasium for this important ceremony. On November 11, especially, but also

throughout the year, we have the opportunity

to remember the efforts of these special

Canadians. In remembering, we pay homage

to those who respond to their country's

needs. On November 11, we pause for two

minutes of silent tribute, and we attend

commemorative ceremonies in memory of

our fallen soldiers.

A big thank you to all the students, staff and parents who supported our school Book Fair! It was a great success and many new resources have been purchased for our Library using the proceeds from the fair. The Million Minute Challenge is also a bighit! It is great to see students reading andfilling up those reading logs. Way to go Gators!!Visit our virtual library using your student login at www.bitly.com/gpslibrary

Mrs. Strickland

A Birthday is a special event at Greensborough. We include a birthday greeting on the announcements each day. As many of our students have severe food allergies, intolerances and dietary restrictions, we ask that you do not send in any food with your child. Also, in an effort to eliminate any issues of inequity, we ask that you do not send in any loot bags or gifts for the class. This places undue pressure on other families who may not be in a financial position to do the same for their child. Instead, we would like to suggest that you donate a book to the school library or classroom so that all children may enjoy the gift.

Lost and Found

We currently have a large volume of clothing items, lunch bags, water bottles and other personal belongings in our lost and found. Please make sure you ask your child to check the lost and found if they are missing items. The contents of the lost and found will be donated before the December holidays. We strongly encourage you to label all items of clothing and lunch bags so that we are able to return the items to them. Pleasenote that we keep lost eye glasses and housekeys in the office.

A note from the office: If your child is going to be away, be sure to phone the school and report the absence by 9:00 a.m. This helps ensure our students are safe!

Parent Email Addresses Needed

The office is in need of your current email address. We are missing several email addresses and therefore, you may be missing important email blasts that are coming from the school. Kindly ensure we have your updated information by sending a note to our general mailbox at: [email protected]

School Cash OnlinePlease be sure you have signed up for School Cash Online. The instructions for signing up are attached to this newsletter. We will be using cash online only as a means of collecting money, by January.
