Iris, a teacher in her early forties who works at a Fine Arts School, assigns her students an exercise on a subject of their choice. During a time, when social behaviors and values are being called into question, the 20-year-old students are thrilled at the idea of being free to choose their own subjects. They create an “imagination factory” that has no limits. After finding Iris’s lost cell phone, provocative Yorgos, bases his subject on his fictitious recreation of his teacher’s life.

The subject of the documentary is an archeological excavation in a mountainous village in the Peloponnese. Focusing οn the excavation and the international team of archaeologists, the film addresses issues about how the past is intertwined with the present of the local community. Placed in the residential area of the village, the excavation reveals a distant ancient past, while it provides an eloquent example of a past being always present in the daily life of Gerakiotes. ‘’1000m2 of time’’ is a documentary about our relation with the past.
