OVERVIEW The purpose of Lakeland’s annual Graduate Follow-Up Survey is to understand the impact of the Lakeland education on graduates’ employment and educational opportunities. In January 2017, the Graduate Follow-Up Survey was mailed to 1,323 Lakeland graduates who completed a degree or certificate program during the 2015-2016 academic year. A second mailing was sent out to the 1,190 non-respondents as a reminder. The survey included an incentive which was an opportunity to participate in a drawing for a $100 Speedway gift card. A total of 197 completed surveys were submitted to Lakeland’s Department of Institutional Research and Planning for compilation and analysis which represents a 14.8 percent response rate. Please Note: Response rates are more important when the survey’s purpose is to measure effects or make inferences towards a larger population. Please keep in mind the following response rates for this type of survey: 40% acceptable, 50% good, 60% very good. Response rates are less important if the purpose of the survey is to gain insight. HIGHLIGHTS Demographic Comparisons The following table compares the demographics of survey respondents with all 2015-2016 academic year degree and certificate recipients. For a side-by-side comparison of graduates and survey respondents by program, see Appendix A of this report.

The following quotes from students are illustrative of the positive feedback received: Comments below have been left unedited
o Great location, affordable & convenient
Institutional Research and Planning/2017 Report/K. Reynolds 5
o I can honestly say you are extremely organized and offer a superior educational experience
to CSU. Wish you would have had a BBA or MBA directly thru LCC.
o I think Lakeland is a wonderful school. I am currently I the radiologic technologist program,
and it's a great program.
o I would/do recommend Lakelands RN program! It was truly amazing thank you :)
o Lakeland CC makes sure you have easy and available sources to local job opportunities. They
keep you involved even before graduating.
o Lakeland Community College is a great school and the staff is exceptional
o Loved the opportunity to take college classes in high school!
o Thanks Lakeland, It took a long time for me to complete my goals, but totally worth it!
o The professors were all fantastic! They were very helpful and enthusiastic. The physics
department may need some help though because that was the only course that did not
prepare me as well as my other courses had.
The following suggestions for improvement were found throughout the comments:
Comments below have been left unedited
o EET program should have more practical experience working with low voltage circuits - labs
using more than just breadboards.
o Everything was great! I do think that more time should be spent on clinicals, more hands on
experience is necessary. Also, more attention on the software programs used in hospitals are
essential to understand. Thank you Lakeland!
o For the Graphic Design program, it would be beneficial to have a class that incorporates real-
life examples, where the students have to design multiple things within a short amount of
time. I felt I wasn't given this training.
o I took an online IT course that was disappointing. Gave me a book with no lectures & an
instructor who couldn't answer a single question. No videos or lectures. I could just buy the
book on Amazon & watch you tube. What kind of class was this!!!
o Lakeland allowed me to fill in the more technical/hands on gaps from my 4 year institution
degrees. These skills were very valuable in enhancing my career position and employers trust
of my skillsets. As well as led me to obtaining enough knowledge to complete some
independent certifications. I valued the things learned by the professors at Lakeland but I
feel Lakeland needs to work on having more staff with more extensive non-acadamia career
backgrounds before teaching in the CNET/ITON/ITCS. The staff you have now are very
knowledgeable but you need some fresh perspectives on Networking, Security, and
Operating Systems. Lakeland also should team up with The University of Toledo similar to
Lorain Community College's partnership with UT for IT and/or CS Engineering.
o Offer better class times/hours; offer better ways for students to go to school while still being
able to work
o Required classes for degrees need to be offered in both spring and fall semesters.

I obtained my 4 year degree and it only took me 18 months after finishing at Lakeland
I would not have gotten a medical coding job without the RHIT degree.

It is sad to say the 'Associate of Arts' that took 4 yrs (1) to complete did/very little toward a
career (if not zilch) for me. However, it did motivate and discipline me more in logic at most!
Thank you!

Moved on to a four year university
My AA has been the absolute most least beneficial thing to my employment, ever. It has zero
relevance in the world today but I went broke trying to simply get an associates. Now I have
heaps of debt I can barely pay and an associates that essentially gets me nowhere.

[Name removed] was one of my favorite professors and she did an amazing job with the
program.
Better clinical sites for evening weekend students during first year
Completely satisfied. See no improvements needed.
Don't stop Degree's programs, until all students are completed courses.
EET program should have more practical experience working with low voltage circuits - labs
using more than just breadboards.
Enrolled in a tax accounting class - in school w/ lab - instructor made it on line class & was more
interested in his POD casts than students (3) that showed up for class & when questioned on
concerns response was "It is online test not open for discussion." What was my tuition for?
Institutional Research and Planning/2017 Report/K. Reynolds 11
Everything was great! I do think that more time should be spent on clinicals, more hands on
experience is necessary. Also, more attention on the software programs used in hospitals are

For the Graphic Design program, it would be beneficial to have a class that incorporates real-life

Great location, affordable & convenient
I can honestly say you are extremely organized and offer a superior educational experience to
CSU. Wish you would have had a BBA or MBA directly thru LCC.
I loved my PSEO experience at Lakeland! I graduated with my associates and am currently
pursuing my Bachelors. I loved Lakeland! I had great professors and made life-long friends!
I think Lakeland is a wonderful school. I am currently I the radiologic technologist program, and
it's a great program.
I took an online IT course that was disappointing. Gave me a book with no lectures & an
instructor who couldn't answer a single question. No videos or lectures. I could just buy the
book on Amazon & watch you tube. What kind of class was this!!!
I was a PSEO student from Mentor High School.
I wish the partnership programs for Education would have been more put together so I could've
attended rather than having to find a new school to obtain my bachelor's degree.
I would have benefited from more exposure to the encoder - my class was between ICD-9 and
ICD-10, so there seemed to be issues with the software. Just a little more time with it to feel
comfortable (actually using it) would be helpful. *Good overall exposure to the material
necessary to pass the RHIT exam. Question 1: I am part-time status, but working a 40 hour
week...still waiting to be declared full-time status.
I would suggest continuing to expand the Madison campus. Although I enjoyed the main
campus, the Madison campus is closer.
I would/do recommend Lakelands RN program! It was truly amazing thank you :)
Lakeland allowed me to fill in the more technical/hands on gaps from my 4 year institution
degrees. These skills were very valuable in enhancing my career position and employers trust of
my skillsets. As well as led me to obtaining enough knowledge to complete some independent

UT for IT and/or CS Engineering.
Lakeland CC makes sure you have easy and available sources to local job opportunities. They
keep you involved even before graduating.
Lakeland Community College is a great school and the staff is exceptional
Lakeland is a treasure!
Lakeland needs to be more aware of their student population which is majority working adults. I
have had several poor professors at Lakeland that should not be teaching adult students.
Institutional Research and Planning/2017 Report/K. Reynolds 12
Lakeland nursing program needs what is called a practicum in last semester to further enhance
critical thinking and skills on job. However, Lakeland in general is friendly and organized!
Lakeland prepared me for college, I went right into my core classes and will graduate with a BS
early.
Lakeland really prepared me well to step into any RN role! Thank you Lakeland nursing program
instructors! :)
Lakeland should inform students about gov't assistant programs to pay for school & be more
helpful with getting gov't assistance.
Lakeland was overall an excellent school with lots to offer and I am happy with my years and
experience there!
Lakeland's Coop Program is lackluster and non-competitive. Career Services, for Engineering
jobs, provided no help. Lack of Engineering tutoring is unacceptable for a program of quality.
Could not have completed program without the Women's Center and [Name removed].
Loved the opportunity to take college classes in high school!
More employment training programs.
N/A (x3)
Need more hands on, less lecture
none
none come to mind
Offer better class times/hours; offer better ways for students to go to school while still being
able to work
Please keep library a quiet place for study.
Please, please, please get CSU or Lake Erie to partner at the Holden Center. Or work something
out with Kent. There are so many people that would use it, including myself.
Professors need higher pay so that they can work one job and be focused on teaching. Many are
distracted/too busy with other jobs.
Required classes for degrees need to be offered in both spring and fall semesters.
Some of the classes could have been much more challenging. Have higher expectations of the
students & they will rise to those. And they will be better people & employees for it. Thank you
for everything.
Suggesting students attend "Chelly's Nursing Review and Tutoring" for extra help would have
helped a lot. The success rate of enrolled students would increase as she is an awesome
teacher. She really helps prepare for NCLEX wayyyy better than ATI.
Teachers help students pass even when they don't deserve to, including myself at times. The
teachers are great, but too forgiving when it comes to quality work.
Thanks Lakeland, It took a long time for me to complete my goals, but totally worth it!
The career center workshops presented by [Name removed] were very helpful as a student who
was seeking a complete career change. Thank you!!
The professors were all fantastic! They were very helpful and enthusiastic. The physics
department may need some help though because that was the only course that did not prepare
me as well as my other courses had.
Used Career/Internship Fair to make a contact with Bowden Mfg. In Willoughby & worked there
over Winter Break. Great experience!
