How can the everyday things in your home—like toy
cars, jackets and coff ee pots—change people’s lives?
That’s the power of donati ng to Goodwill—we trans-
form the items you donate into tangible support for job
training and educati on. Coupled with your generous
fi nancial support, we’re helping people who are strug-
gling to get by in this diffi cult economy gain skills, fi nd
jobs and put their lives back on track. In this report,
we’ll show how people like you kept Goodwill’s
caring community enterprise moving forward over
the past year.
Just turn the page to fi nd out more…
Sincerely,
Ken CollingGoodwill President & CEOYour Ambassador of Goodwill
Lives on Track
Our Mission: Goodwill provides quality, eff ecti ve employment training and basic educati on to individuals experiencing signifi cant barriers to economic opportunity. Because jobs change lives.
Your Contributions
With deepest appreciation we recognize:
You, and so many others in the community, are the foundation of Goodwill’s ability to help others. Every day, thousands of people load up their cars with possessions and head to a Goodwill Donation Center. Many others generously donate money or volunteer their time. Whatever your contribution, you help Goodwill keep thousands of lives on track.
780 people who volunteered nearly 58,000 hours of their time.
2,850 individuals, businesses and foundations who contributed nearly $820,000 to advance our mission.
Everyone in the community who visited one of Goodwill’s 26 Donation Centers 1,873,277 times last year. You donated 74,413,172 pounds of goods!
Your PurchasesHow do we use your donations? We sell them in our 20 retail thrift stores to raise critical funds—more than $9.7 million in 2009-2010!—for our job training and education programs. It’s an eco-friendly way to help the most vulnerable people in our community while giving shoppers great-quality items at prices they can afford.
Our shoppers bought an astounding 20,281,044 items in our stores last
year, providing jobs for over 1,400 people. Thank you for your support!
Your ImpactWorking together to improve our communityYour support is helping Goodwill make a difference in the lives of thousands of people in our com-munity. By providing employment training, English and computer classes, job placement assistance, life skills training and other services, free of charge, we’re helping those in need get and keep good jobs and get on track to more successful lives.
After finishing a Goodwill program, our students increased their annual
income by an average of $13,439.
3,812 people received job training and other services at our nine centers last year.
348 people found jobs with nearly 250 different companies.
93 students built on their Goodwill education by enrolling in
community or technical colleges.
One Life on TrackLieza embarked on a new life when she left the Philippines for the United States several years ago.
One of her aunts, a former Goodwill employee and program graduate, suggested Lieza take classes at Goodwill, so she did, graduating from our 10-week Retail and Customer Service Training Program in December of 2009.
Lieza landed a job as a cashier in the food court of a supermarket and was promoted to Lead Cashier. Lieza was able to buy a car to help with transporta-tion, and her parents recently emigrated here as well. She is making plans to attend community college next year.
“Lieza was very eager to learn and had a clear vision of how
she saw her new life.”Jacqueline Armstrong,
Goodwill’s Senior Employment Specialist

All of Goodwill’s programs and services are provided free of charge to our students. They are supported by our generous community through donated goods sold in our thrift stores, grants from corporations and foundations and financial gifts from individuals.
We do incur operational expenses with the collection, processing, distribution and sale of donated goods and continue to work hard to minimize those costs.
Please contact Goodwill at 1 (877) GIVE4GOOD with any questions about this financial statement.
Thank you to our generous Goodwill donors! We sincerely appreciate the many individuals, families, businesses, foundations, trusts and people who have remembered us in their wills for their generous contributions between June 28, 2009, and June 26, 2010. Your support is vitally important to Goodwill as we work hand in hand with our community and our clients to change lives through jobs.
