your Revision pack were in the exam!”

clever people, they like to write their questions in a very clever way.

Sadly, when you are starting out in plumbing, it’s all a bit confusing to start

with, and what you don’t need is ‘Cleverness’

And that is, with only a limited amount of

questions to ask, how can they make the questions seem new and different?

A plumber is drilling an external wall of a house on a new construction site to make fixings to brickwork

while other trades are working on an adjacent scaffold platform.

Which one of the following correctly lists the safety items that the plumber should be wearing?

They do it by adding in all sorts of unnecessary bits of information so that it seems like a brand new question.

So what we’re going to do now is to look at the question and cross out all the garbage so that you can see what

the question really is!

A plumber is drilling an external wall of a house on a new construction site to make fixings to brickwork

while other trades are working on an adjacent scaffold platform.

Which one of the following correctly lists the safety items that the plumber should be wearing?

It doesn’t make any difference where

the plumber is drilling, so you can get rid of the first bit of information about the external

wall.

And it also doesn’t matter what kind of

building the plumber is drilling

into, or what kind of construction site!

So out with the next couple of bits.

Now read the question again and you will see that, after all the garbage is removed, what you have left is simply.....

A plumber is drilling an external wall of a house on a new construction site to make fixings to brickwork

while other trades are working on an adjacent scaffold platform.

Which one of the following correctly lists the safety items that the plumber should be wearing?

When using a drill, what PPE should be worn?

Ask your teacher if it’s an ‘open book’ or ‘closed book’ exam. If it’s open book, make sure you take all the reference books you need with you to the exam.

Stop revising!Don’t do any revision the day before the exam.

You have enough information in your head to pass the exam, and if you revise right up to the last minute you will just give yourself confusion, stress, and brain

ache! Have a rest.

Relax.

The day before the exam

Give yourself plenty of time and get to the place of the exam early – at least 15 minutes before the exam is timed to start. This gives you time to relax and get

yourself into gear to take the test. The person who watches over you while you take the

exam is called the ‘invigilator’.Listen carefully to any instructions given to you by the

invigilator.

On the day of the exam

Read the question and each of the four answers before making your selection.

Don’t rush! You’ll have plenty of time to answer all the questions.

Look at any illustrations. Remember that the illustrations provide you with information which will

be required to answer the question correctly.

Taking the exam.

You don’t have to do the questions in the order they appear in the exam.

Go through all the questions quickly and answer the ones you definitely know.

If you’re not sure about a question, don’t waste time on it, choose the ‘flag’ option to mark the question

and return to it after you’ve gone through the whole exam paper.

This way you’ll have all the easy questions answered and can spend more time on the hard questions.

Taking the exam.

If you’re really having difficulty with a question.Look at the answers and do a 50/50 by getting rid of

the answers that can’t possibly be correct. There are usually two answers which are obviously

wrong. Then if you have a guess between the last two answers, you’ll have at least a 50% chance of getting

the right answer.

Taking the exam.

ANSWER EVERY QUESTION!

If you leave a question unanswered you are guaranteed to get a zero.

If you have a guess, at least you have a 1 in 4 chance of getting it right.

And that's it! Be cool, enjoy the exam, and let me know how you got on!

Norm.

And finally.
