“OH, MY WORLD!” NEWS FLASH (2) “AT LAST: ‘DOPPERS’ ALSO ON BOARD!”.

CHAIRMAN OF “ASSOCIATION OF NATURE PRESERVATION ORGANISATIONS OF SA” (ANAPOSA) WELCOMES 2018 SYNODAL DECISION OF GKSA. In an exploratory talk initiated by Dr Henry Strawmaker, spokesman for the Deputies for Environment of the GKSA, with Dr Michael McKenzie, chairman of ANAPOSA, Dr McKenzie as a practising Christian was excited about the cooperation of the “Doppers”. Dr Strawmaker explained that Synod 2018 mandated the Deputies to encourage and equip church members to individually and corporately cooperate with other churches, movements and organisations not only to combat climate change, pollution, destruction of nature and creation, the depletion of natural resources but also to rectify and repair existing damage. “Why only now?” Dr McKenzie admitted that he was surprised that the GKSA only now got “on board” the “ecological ship” since it was already “overloaded” (from a Christian perspective) also with “wrong” people and organisations. Some were there from the wrong motives (there is money to be made from vociferous campaigns against climate change), from pagan beliefs and ideologies (‘’ God and nature are one!’’ – and thus creation is venerated instead of the Creator) and from wrong goals (a return to an idealized primitive mode of existence and lifestyle). The contributions of truly Christian bodies are rather muted and under the radar. Dr Strawmaker has had to admit that the GKSA and its members in general saw the God-given “cultural mandate” both one-sidedly and askew: the “rule over” of Gen 1:26-28 as the Creator’s “representatives” had been over-emphasized - to the detriment of the “guarding” of Gen 2:15 as his “stewards”. This resulted in their cooperating in the exploitation of nature, the upsetting of the God-given equilibrium of creation and their irresponsible absorption of the culture of consumerism. The fundamental problem was: the ministry of the Word about our responsibility concerning nature and creation had been deficient. Action now! The participants agreed that, although late, the “Doppers” still have a biblically sound contribution to make towards existing activities in nature preservation, the reparation of damage and the cultivation of an appropriate simple lifestyle. Although the membership of the GKSA comprises of less than 1% of the South African population, Dr McKenzie encouraged the Deputies to energetically pursue the fulfilment of their mandate since many of the ‘’green’’ organisations have less members. Yet, by utilizing the right strategies, they are making a huge impact. In this respect he found the previous ‘’flash’’ about the cause of the looming maize crisis enlightening – and therefore his message is : ‘’THINK OWL’’: SEEMINGLY SMALL ACTIONS CAN HAVE UNFORESEEN LARGE RESULTS! (‘’Flash’’ by DC Coetsee)

TRAP VIR BYBELS Vir lidmate wat by fietsry betrokke is.
