Elementary Week 1 July 1/2, 2017 Bottom Line God Made You to be You!

Staging: o Gadgets and Gizmos Backdrop o Large Inflatable Paintbrushes o Tool boxes o Story Poster o Giant Gadgets and Gizmos Standee (Optional) o Ladder (Optional)

Props o Cellphone (host will use their cellphone to take a pic of the

group/have them send the pictures to the Children’s Directors)

Clapchat Filter Game o How to Play:

o The host will select 8 volunteers for this game. o Then the host will pair up models and designers into four

teams of two; each pairs will create a totally new, totally unique clapchat photo filter. The models will take a seat and then the designers will position props from the buckets on the models to try to create the design for a new filter. The designers will only have 30 seconds to create this new filter! Once they’re done, they’ll show off their work! Then the host and audience will decide which team created the best filter by vote through the loudest applause.

o What you’ll need: o 4 Chairs o Small buckets with props in them (silly glasses, feather boas,

wigs, hats, etc) o 2 prizes per service hour

Welcome to our new series, Gadgets and Gizmos! I’m [Host’s name], and if you guys don’t mind, I’m going to get a quick group shot here. (Turn around and use your phone to get a selfie with the entire room of kids in the pic.)

• Perfect! I bet you’re wondering why I wanted to get a pic? Well, I just figured I’d put my favorite app to use on my favorite gadget!

• THIS month we’re looking at gadgets and gizmos that do a bunch of fun stuff! Gizmos usually include plugs, motherboards, circuits—you know, all those wiry-looking things you see around the house.

• And more than that, we have an all-new Life App! Yep, and here it is!

• There are so many cool apps that have fun filters when you take a picture. Just look at these examples here!

Gizmos_Picture Filters_Slide So that made me think, why not create our own?! For this game, I’m going to need eight people! And if we have any leaders, we want you to join too!

Select eight volunteers (try to incorporate small group leaders as well as kids.)

We’re going to pair off a model and a designer each into teams of two, and they’re going to create a totally new, totally unique filter to impress me, the Clapchat brand manager, and our audience. We’re going to have the models take a seat and then the designers will use the buckets of props on the models to try to create the design for a new filter. But the designers will only have 30 seconds to create this new filter! Once they’re done, we’ll show off their work! Sound good to everyone? Then let us commence to commencing!

And time! Let’s see what we’ve got here! As we look at each design, I want

you to clap for the design you think is the best. Whichever team’s design gets the loudest claps, will receive a prize! Host shows off designs one at a time to allow the crowd to react to each. Whichever team receives the loudest claps will be the winner and receive a prize. Let’s give a round of applause for our designers and models, because that was fantastic! Let’s keep it going as we praise God today with some worship! Can you believe that God created US in His image? And when we follow Him and live our life according to His plan, we can be found in Him. And that’s one of the songs we’ll be singing today. So let’s get up on our feet and worship!

Since this series is all about gadgets and gizmos, I thought we could check in with a friend of mine to see what gadget she’s making.

He’s most well known for his battle with a huge giant. Anyone remember that giant’s name? (Pause for response.) That’s right! Goliath. And that’s exactly the story we’re taking a closer look at today. Check it out!

What I find interesting about Goliath is that he is not your regular, run-of-the-mill giant. The Bible describes him as a champion or hero. He was dressed to look the part as well. He wore armor weighing over one hundred pounds, and he had a fancy helmet, javelin, and spear. No doubt he was an intimidating sight.

• David had done what no other trained and seasoned Israelite soldier was willing to do: battle a giant. The weight of the entire Israelite nation was on David’s shoulders.

• If David had lost, the Philistines would have won the battle. The effects of a loss could have been disastrous. However, David did not seem unnerved by the pressure.

• Which bring us to our Bottom Line today!

Say it with me…God Made You to Be You!

• David used how God made him to defeat the giant. The boy shepherd had spent hours upon hours with his sheep practicing his slingshot skills.

• God built David’s courage with the wild animals that threatened to steal his family’s livestock. In the stillness of nature, David’s faith in God grew.

• For David, Saul’s armor and sword would not have worked as well, because God prepared him for the battle differently and uniquely.

• Your quirks and oddities may not make sense right now, but I believe God can use your special characteristics to make a difference in the world around you! Think about how God made you. See if those special things can be used for God’s glory. Let’s pray.

Lead kids in Prayer

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for this story of courage and uniqueness. David bravely used how You made him in order to defeat the giant. Help us to realize You wired all of us uniquely. Please help us to seek out ways to make a difference in the world with our special characteristics and talents. We love You and ask all these things in Jesus’ name, amen.
