Analytics Trends to Watch in 2013
1. Customer Analytics: Personalized, cross-channel,
customer-driven analytics will drive new focus on
delivering individualized, personalized digital
experiences
2. Mobile Analytics. Increased use of mobile will
drive requirement for analytics applied to mobile
generated data
3. Social and Textual Analytics. Moving beyond
batch listening, Social Business Managers want to
be able to analyze social conversations and
influencer networks in real time.
4. Predictive Analytics: New innovative applications
of advanced algorithms and modeling techniques
will advance the science of predictive analytics.
5. Real-Time Analytics. As decision makers get a
taste for what can be done, they will want that
information faster…..and eventually in real time

Analytics Trends to Watch in 2013 (cont.)
6. Interest Grows in Data Visualization: Enterprises
learn that managing and extracting insights from
Big Data is not enough…you need to be able to
display the insights for decision makers.
7. Self- Service. Decision makers will increasingly
want access to simple to use analytic tools that
provide visualization rich output. Oh….and they
want that output on their tablet.
8. Hadoop matures. Hadoop functionality improves
and CIOs begin to consider it for mission critical
applications
9. Data Scientists: There will be a rush to hire skilled
Big Data Scientists, often via services like Kaggle.
10. Education and Training: Big Data & Analytic
Services firms will offer extensive training and
certification programs to try to help fill the
shortages of skilled Data Scientists.

Planning and Management
“What used to be a time-consuming process is now accomplished automatically and in real time, allowing
us to make smarter and more timely decisions that keep our city’s traffic flowing smoothly.”
Used intelligent video analytics to provide real-time traffic information to drivers, conduct traffic surveillance and improve city roads.

Harnessing Power to create Smarter Mobility
Envision a future where:
There is a holistic view of the mobility network that incorporates all possible modes of movement—walking, biking, buses, streetcars, rail, underground, ferries, barges, trucks, personal transport, private or public automobiles, or new modes yet to be developed.
This view can be actively shared in real time with individuals on a personalized basis so that they can make a better choice for their journey.
Individual journey choices involve changing behaviors to incorporate different modes and timing of travel not previously used.
High value is realized when someone is a first-time or occasional traveler in any city.

Harnessing Power to create Smarter Mobility
Envision the future today:
–Real time updates
–Make use of travel predictions
–Handle uncertainty & reduce risk
• Offer alternatives to missing connections
–User tracking
–Smart, scalable re-planning
• When plans are invalidated
• When opportunities for better plans arrive
• When user is off-track
–Optimising multi-modal transport network
• Strategic, offline optimisation: e.g., bus schedule refinement
• Online optimisation: optimised response to disruptions

Smarter Mobility: Client Case Study
Increased information drives smarter mobility solutions
The ongoing project called Optimod’Lyon has been launched
in 2012 by the Grand Lyon (urban community of Lyon France
and its suburbs, in total around 60 cities/villages). It is a public-
private cooperation, it provides the means to coordinate with
other offices and agencies more easily.
The solution enables the delivery of new multi-modal mobility
service to end-users but also enhance the collaboration
between the mayors office, firefighters, transport operators…
They can monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to avert
disruptions proactively, optimize the use of available
infrastructure and assets to drive cost savings with increased
situational awareness in domains outside transportation, such
as energy, water and many others.
For travelers, it offers real-time information from different
sources and applies Predictive Analytics. It includes all
available modes, allows travelers to set preferences and then
provides optimized itineraries. It guides travelers during the
trip, pushing alerts when conditions change.
