FRS Rural Youth App Challenge
Who• Students enrolled in grades 7 through
12 are eligible
• At least one student teammate must live in an area served by an NTCA—The Rural Broadband Association (NTCA) member company
WhatStudents will develop a concept for a mobile app that addresses a problem or improves a process in their rural community or in rural America at large. The challenge will be concept-based only and will be judged based on presentation and rigor of research. The concept must be possible and not already exist (but may be similar).

How1 Form a team. Teams must be composed of
one to five students, all within eligible grade range, and with at least one member served by an NTCA member company.
2 Perfect your idea. Remember: The challenge is concept-based only.

1 Check and see if youare served by an NTCA member company.
NTCA members are community-based, rural broadband providers. If you are served by an NTCA member, this is likely your local rural telephone or internet provider. NTCA members are not big companies like Verizon, AT&T, Windstream, etc. Call your local internet provider or contact FRS to find out for sure.
2 Make sure you are inthe eligible grade range.
Students in grades 7 through 12 are eligible.
3 Form your team.
• All participants must be withineligible grade range.
• At least one team member must beserved by an NTCA member.
• You may have up to five team participants.
• Designate a team contact person*(parent or teacher**).
• Optional: Come up with a team name.
4 Come up with youridea for an app.
Make sure it fits the “Challenge Overview” on www.frs.org.
5 Fill out the Rural Youth App Challenge application (all of it).
6 Submit your application by March 1, 2019.

SECTION C: VISUALS
Include a depiction of what you would like your app to look like, either hand-drawn or created digitally. Submit digital image files as high-resolution JPG using the following instructions:

Please use the following naming style: “TeamName_appstore1” “TeamName_device1” “TeamName_optional1” “TeamName_optional2” when uploading photos to the Sharefile folder. If you have more than one photo for each category, number them as shown in the above example file names.

SECTION D: VIDEO “PITCH”
Please tell us about your app in a short video of 2 minutes or less. Your video may include answers that you’ve submitted in writing, such as a description of your community, a description of the audience, visual depictions of the app etc. Your video does not have to be done with a professional camera (in other words, a cellphone is just fine) but please do make sure the sound is clear and that the camera is steady. This video will be reviewed by the review committee and may eventually be, with your permission, shared on social media.
You may email your video to [email protected] with the team name and members in the body of the email. Alternatively, please provide a web url in the space below where judges can view the video.
You may consider using Vimeo or Youtube. Youtube provides the option to upload a video as “unlisted” which means your video will not be publicly viewable unless an individual has the link to the video.
