Why Sports Players Are Happier! After studying 459 athletes, researchers have found that people who play sport in a team not only score the benefits of exercise, they‟re more satisfied with life than solo exercisers. They say the social aspect of training and playing with a team as well relationships you build, boost happiness, while feelings of belonging to a group increase positivity. Registration for winter sports is happening now.

are also drinking lots of water because we know we need this to be healthy and keep our bodies cool. A very busy saturday is about

to be had in our Kindy. This weekend lots of Mums, Dads and family members are coming to help us get some big jobs done in the

Kindy. Anyone else who wants to help out please see Ms Ballam.

PRE-PRIMARY REPORT

It has been an exciting couple of weeks in Pre-Primary. We have all enjoyed swimming lessons. We will continue with our Jolly Phonics program, this week we did pear stamping and made nests for the letter/sound „P‟ and „N‟. In Math we are learning to read, write and represent numbers in numeral and word form and by manipulating concrete materials. We will have a new member of our classroom next week, his name is Ollie and he is our classroom bear. He will take it in turns to come home with the children for a few nights at a time and then come back to school. He has a diary and the children are encouraged to record their adventures with Ollie with photos, drawings or pictures. In week 6, a parent help roster will be placed inside the classroom. Please feel free to write your name in one timeslot. The roster runs on Mondays and Fridays from 8.40 to 10.30am. We look forward to seeing you and your help is greatly appreciated.

YEAR 1 CLASS REPORT

Swimming is nearly over and the children will soon be back to a regular classroom routine. In the meantime, the main learning area for students has been English and Maths. In English, the students have covered three weeks of phonics studying “sh, ch and th” words. Grammar, the main focus is on “what makes a sentence?” In Maths the class has been revising Pre-primary concepts.

YEAR 2 CLASS REPORT

The Year two class have been very busy over the past fortnight. We have really enjoyed our swimming lessons although it has made many of us very tired! Last Monday we made Fairy Bread in the classroom and then wrote a recount of our experience. We had so much fun and there were Hundreds and Thousands all over the floor afterwards! We were allowed to eat of fairy bread afterwards and most of us thought it was delicious. In History we have been looking at our school and identifying parts of it that are old and new. Most of us were very surprised to learn that our school is 114 Years old! Even older than Mrs McAuliffe! We will continue to research the History of our school and Osborne Park over the next few weeks. In our reading programme we are currently looking at sequencing and have learnt about the life cycles of a butterfly and a frog. We have really found this interesting. Thank you to all the parents who came along to our parent meeting last week. If you were unable to and would like the handouts that were given out, please come and see us.

YEAR 3 CLASS REPORT

All the Year 3s have really enjoyed swimming these past two weeks. In class, we have been very busy. We have

been learning about worded problems in maths and the important information to look for to answer the

problem. We have been discussing the different language used in maths and can‟t believe there are so many different words for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We have also been working on adjectives

and trying to make our stories more descriptive and interesting. In our own fairy tales the generous and fearless

princes and princesses have been getting up to a lot of mischief in their magical and mysterious castles. Thank

you to everyone who came to our parent meeting last week. If you were unable to attend and didn‟t get the

handout that was given then please come and see me.

YEAR 4 CLASS REPORT

The Year 4‟s really enjoyed swimming for the past two weeks, but are looking forward to settling into a more structured routine. Thank you to all those parents who attended the year meeting last week. We are working on

large numbers and place value in maths, recognising and representing them in words and numbers, ordering

them from largest to smallest and applying place value to partition, rearrange and regroup them. We are also

expected to learn our tables every night for homework and their related division facts. In science we are looking

at different materials and their properties. Mel, the Chaplain, has begun the Buzz program for Health. This involves learning about how to work in a team and overall becoming more resilient. If your child has not

returned the Choir note or photo envelope can you please get them to return them ASAP.

YEAR 5/6 CLASS REPORT

What an exciting start to the term! During these two weeks the students have been actively engaging in swimming lessons and each has been taking responsibility of a pre-primary student, making sure they have all their belongings and helping them to put on shoes and shirts during this time. It has been great to see how well they look after them and demonstrate the behaviour that is expected on the bus and at the swimming pool. Thank you to all those parents who attended the parent/teacher meeting; we hope to follow up with any parents that couldn't be there. If you have any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us. We are noticing quite a few students forgetting things that are needed for the day. It would be of great help if parents could encourage their children to check their timetables daily to see what they need to pack in their bags (homework, hats, library books and bags seem to be the most common items that are forgotten). The students also have a diary they can use to remind themselves of scheduled events and what needs to brought to class on a particular day. It would be of great help if parents could remind their children to check their diaries on a regular basis. The students have made an excellent start to the term and settled in very quickly. They have already set some long and short term goals that they wish to achieve for this year. They are also finding out many interesting facts about each other and each of them will be presenting a speech about themselves. Well done to all the students who participated and put up their hands to be school captains and student councillors. The speeches given were very convincing and of high quality. Congratulations to those who were nominated. Other year 5/6s will also be given leadership role opportunities in which to participate throughout the year.

PARENTS AND CITIZENS ASSOCIATION – P&C

Help Wanted. The Osborne Primary Parent & Citizen Association (P & C) is a group of parents who work together to raise money for events & experiences that help add to our children's school experience. The P &C contributes towards our wonderful School Chaplain and the BUZZ program, our end of year Edu Dance Whole School performance which is an integral component of the Sport Curriculum, as well as the installation of the Nature Play Space on our school grounds. Unfortunately, your school's P & C is in danger of folding. This is due to the natural ebb & flow of interested parents with the new school year. This is a wonderful and exciting time for you to offer some of your time and skills as there are Office Bearing positions available on the P & C as well as opportunities to join Project Teams throughout the year.

There is information about becoming a casual volunteer, and, our Projects on the notice board between Rooms 7 and 8, especially for you to learn more. You are invited to come to a Workshop on Wednesday 8th March 2017, 6pm, in the School Library. The topic of the workshop is Attracting Volunteers. If you have any questions about or ideas for our P & C, you would like to ask or share, please join us for a morning tea (there is no cost) after the next School Assembly on Wednesday 8th March in the Undercover Area. It will be wonderful to see you. Your school needs you. Thank you. Sarah Aitken - Acting President. 0424 480 400 [email protected]

New Netball Competition for adults

Netball Western Australia and the State Netball Centre will be running social netball competitions in March

and we are offering opportunities to local communities, schools and businesses to get on board with ladies,

mixed and men‟s teams.

For the first time, we will be offering a Fast5 social competition on Monday mornings and Thursday

evenings. This is a great way for parents, citizens and staff of the school to socialise, have fun and get fit.

From feedback we have received on our first pilot program in November, even those who have never played

netball before have had a great time.

What is Fast5?

Get ready to get moving in a whole new kind of netball! Think shorter quarters with rolling substitutions; five

players-a-side; shoot for one, two or three points and Power Plays to double your score.

It‟s social, it‟s fun and it‟s netball played in a brand new way! Check out playfast5.com.au for more details.

The best way to get in touch is to email [email protected] or call Mhairi on 93803723. Please do

not hesitate to ask any questions you may have.
