Reflections of new media tools for participatory democracyhttp://politicadigital.e-itd.comTRANSCRIPT
• After two days talking aboutparticipatory democracy, Internet onlinetools and how it affects young peopleand politicians, we face several issuesfor further work:– Think of the tools and how to use them well– Think energize people and how to
participate
• While we have a global economic crisisand a crisis pronounced toward politicsand politicians, their ways of doing andmanaging, disaffection, corruption ... wehave a chance to take control from theusers on the networks.
• As occurred when dot-com bubble burst, when the Internet was going to headtowards the privatization of content, users were able to seize the opportunityto return to its original network, freedom. This implies a paradigm shift in both theprocesses and in the channels.
• The talks that are generated in thenetwork have nothing to do withtechnology. Technology is not theproblem. The people are the ones behindthe tools, said Nicholas Hauw.Thetraditional political structure is in check, said Carlos Guadian.
• What's left? We have much work ahead. Wemust work to encourage, connect, copy, process, activity networks, creating newmodels, use tools and ... share. Sharing is thekey. Humans have evolved through which wehave relied on networks and we have shared.Participatory democracy must be based onthese two paradigms to construct a new policyto and from the networks. We need attitude.
