Well, here we are in October already, and I find I have been very lax in communicating as the "Past President". I am hoping that this will be the start of a new trend for me in being more communicative via the newsletter.     As this year draws to a close and we look to a new group of officers to lead the club through the next year I will be no longer filling the post of Past President. However, I will be still active in an appointed position for the board but not as a voting board member. At the last board meeting the appointed position of "Public Service Communications Co-ordinator" was created. I will be filling this position for the foreseeable future.       The job of this position will be to co-ordinate all activities that the club will undertake to provide communications for the community. This will include the Shelter's Right Hand 5k walk/run in April, and the Emergency communications group for the City of Whittier. It will hopefully increase in scope as you the club members alert me of additional events where we can provide communications.       The Whittier City Emergency communications group is proceding well at this time and I hope to convince those making the decision that we will need more people to provide the level of service that is needed for this project. We have held two radio checks for the city and taken part in a short disaster drill last month. It made quite an impression when the traffic we were asked to handle was handled efficiently and rapidly. In one case providing the response while the asking party was still in the comm room.     This years 5k Walk/Run will be held a week earlier than in past years. This means that several people who have participated in this event will not be able to help. That means that I will be seeking additional volunteers to help make this a successful operation. Keep the 18th of April (Saturday) open on your calendars for this event.      Well, that should take care of this month's recap of what is going on.      Dave Haring, K6CJZ  PSCC
