OF THE MONDAY BEFORE PUBLICATION Men’s Bowling by Paul Tomazic by Art McLain The Forest City Girls Bas- ketball team had a great sea- son last year in winning the Lackawanna League Champi- onship and then the District 2 championship and also mak- ing it into the State Playoffs. With the help of head coach, John Duffy; assistant coach, Sherry Youorski Adams; and also Tracy Stiles Hartman; the Lady Foresters appear to be a force to be reckoned with again this year. The graduation of Captain Anna Congdon will open up a spot for another starter. The return of 4 of the starting play- ers gives plenty of reasons to be optimistic about another great season. Nothing is ever as easy as it should be and with a change in the schedule the girls will have to compete against teams from Strouds- burg also this season. The team officially started practice on Friday, November 18 and is hard at work prepar- ing for this upcoming season. The practice sessions are fast paced as play after play is practiced with lile stoppage except for coaching in between plays. Every player moving, every player has a purpose on each play. The girls are very focused and it would be easy to lose track of the fact that this is a high school level practice as opposed to a college level practice. Coach Duffy knows basketball and the girls have full respect and dedication to the program. Coach Duffy’s number one goal is for the girls to learn to be beer basketball players. Winning is important but his main focus is on helping each of the girls to improve. Af- ter winning the Lackawanna League and District 2 Cham- pionships last year, certainly they would like to repeat those accomplishments. The season’s first exhibition game will be at home on De- cember 10th versus the Lake- land Chiefs and then at Valley View for a game on the 14th and then they’ll play on the 20th versus Carbondale. The Honesdale Jaycee’s Tourna- ment will give the Lady For- esters more competition and features the teams from Hon- esdale, Western Wayne and Wallenpaupack. The Lady Foresters also have a Facebook page at Lady- ForestersBasketball. Justin Pecko, Browndale, got this 8 pointer while hunting at his friends house, Andy Warholic, in Clifford Township. At the counter you will find a friendly and knowledgeable staff, Lisa Barhite, manager, and Grace Barhite Levai, sister of the owners. They will help you find the equipment you need for your project. Sometimes you might only need the equipment for a short while and that is when the rental side of the business comes in handy. Lisa says that the rental of equipment is roughly equal with the sales of equipment. The Sales & Rental business was formed in 2008. The business is owned by Lisa’s husband, Martin and his brother, Michael. Next door the excavation busi - ness has a separate office. It is a family owned and operated busi- ness as it was started by Martin and Michael’s father, Marty. At the excavation office you’ll find Michael’s wife, Elki, office man- ager. Also employed with the Sales and Rental business is Bruce Edwards who makes deliveries of the rental equipment. The Sales and Rental business has a great website at barhitessale- sandrentals.com and can give you more information on the equip- ment available. The addition of their business to Clifford has given a fresh look to the Route 106 location and will likely give their customers an opportunity to shop at other local businesses as well.
