OUR MISSION: ALLEVIATE HUNGER BY CREATING ACCESS TO FOODWe are a private, nonprofit 501(c)3 food bank and accomplish our mission by soliciting, collecting, rescuing, growing, preparing and

packing food for distribution through a network of more than 150 partner agencies and distribution sites. FOOD for Lane County

carries the operational expense of food banking and processing with no fees to community partner agencies. We have built our

success on the ability to be agile and responsive to the community’s need since we were founded in 1984.

As the second largest food bank in Oregon, we are a partner of both the Oregon Food

Bank network and Feeding America, the national food bank collaborative. With only

62 employees, we rely on 77,500 hours of volunteer work equivalent to 37 FTE, a strong

volunteer Board of Directors, and our community partner agencies to serve Lane County’s

emergency food needs. We serve a population base of 369,519 people living within 4,722

square miles of urban and rural Lane County. Our stewardship has been recognized by

Charity Navigator as a top-rated nonprofit.

Food insecurity is a lack of access, at times, to

enough food for an healthy lifestyle. Too often

this means a difficult trade-off between important

basic needs such as medical care, housing, or

transportation, and nutritiously adequate foods.

Why do people experience food insecurity?

• Fixed income

• Underemployment

• Lack of affordable housing

• Cost of childcare

• Minimal or no benefits

• Chronic illness

• Student loan debt

• Medical bills

Financial support from donors allowed us to grow our capacity to serve seniors in our community. This past year we added Meals on Wheels to our list of innovative programs, serving clients in the Eugene area. We also increased the number of seniors served by our Senior Grocery Program.

Through programs like these, we are helping more seniors get the nutrition they need while allowing more seniors to stay in their homes. Thank you for helping us take care of those who took care of us.

F O O D D O N AT I O N SFrom grapes to granola and canned soup to cantelope, we rely on food donations from a variety of sources, including wholesalers and retail grocery stores, farms, food drives, companies and individuals. More than 60% of the 8 million pounds we distributed last year came from local donors. It’s a vast and varied network of support that keeps our trucks on the road, food pantry shelves stocked and plates full. We are grateful for the enthusiastic and generous support.
