Pearl Buck Center is teaming up with the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Department of Human Services and local businesses to provide youth transitioning from high school a summer work experience. Based on pilot programs the agency has studied and used it has shown that Summer Work Experiences are a critical component of long term employment. Students who go to work early maintain employment throughout their lives, leading to happier, healthier lives. At least 20% of all students served must be eligible for developmental or intellectual disability services. Documented disabilities may include, but are not limited to intellectual, developmental, orthopedic, mobility, medical, mental health, learning and educational disabilities. What an employer gains:

• Firsthand knowledge of the future workforce. • An active role in building that workforce. • Dedicated individuals and work teams. • A sense of service to the community. • Increased mentoring and coaching skills in long term employees. • A potential recruiting tool for the future
