The Year 3-6 class have spent time posing questions about how aboriginal Australians connect to their country. An exploration of the history and political agendas that have occurred since colonisation have been part of class readings during the literacy block. Through this unit, the children will explore the different languages groups, the stories that connect them to the land, the tools used from the land, and how European settlement has affected Indigenous Australians. sculpture on Friday November 9 at an outdoor school assembly. This is also the changed day for Grandparent’s Day, as we thought it would be lovely for our grandparents and friends to be a part of this special assembly. It would be great to have as many of our families as possible attend on this day, so please keep this date free. REMEMBRANCE DAY Sunday November 11, 10:30am commencement The students will be writing some items to present at the Flowerdale Memorial Service and will be singing some songs on the day. The students will be looking into the role of animals in the war and will be contributing to some messages to be attached to a carrier pigeon that will be released on the day. This years’ service commemorates one hundred years since the armistice was declared in World War 1. We have even received a special teddy that is wearing the full uniform that would have been worn at this time. Check it out in the front office. MATHS OLYMPIAD 2018 I would like to acknowledge the achievements of three of our Year 6 students who participated in the MATHS OLYMPIAD this year. The students worked with me to learn a range of problem solving strategies each week that they applied to a monthly test consisting of five timed problems. Over the time, I worked with the students I observed an enthusiasm to persist with solving the problems provided. It was great to see the children showing one another the strategies they used to solve the problems and revelling in the times when they called out “I’ve got it!” James Simpson and Abigail De Vir were awarded with certificates at assembly for completing all of the set

tasks. Ashlee Antolos was the top scorer for Flowerdale and came in the top 30% in the state. She was awarded with a certificate and trophy. Congratulations to them

all on completing this challenging competition.

Week 1 & 2

Pumpernickel has flown off to visit a new place in Australia. Can you guess where he went?

1. When naming this place these were some options that were rejected- Sydmelperadbrisho, Kangaremu or Gonebroke.

2. You will find the Australian War memorial here. 3. The Prime Minister lives here. 4. This place is Australia’s largest inland city. 5. The name of this place is thought to mean ‘meeting place’. 6. Lake Burley Griffin was nearly a disaster – the initial filling was attempted

during a drought, which attracted swarms of mosquitoes. Research in books and the internet and be ready to be called upon at assembly with your answer. Good luck!

In a Basket

Flowerdale Primary School is appealing to families for donations

of foodstuffs so we can create some

Christmas hampers. These baskets will then be gifted to families in our

community who might need a extra helping hand this Christmas.

Donations can be left

at the office.

Thank you! -Ms Davis

SENTENCE STARTER STORIES

The little old woman found a golden egg. It was tiny and in it there was a little boy. She found it at the end of the rainbow and she took it home to show her husband. Then the little boy came out of the egg and they loved him. By Dekota-Lee

The little old woman found a big non-blooming flower. She took the flower back to her house and each time she watered it the flower opened. As soon as it opened a baby came out and the woman was shocked. By Keira-Rose The boy opened the box and rainbow butterflies flew out . Unicorns and rainbows and they all came out. Rainbow water came out of the box and the boy was excited about the box and some fairies came out. By Kaylee
