Dear parents and carers, We held last week’s school assembly outside to launch our contemplative garden and to unveil our King Parrot sculpture, donated by John (Demmi’s uncle). We were fortunate to have parents, grandparents, community members and our local member Cindy McLeish there on the day. Memorial plaques for past parents, students, teachers and community members beneath the roses in the garden remind us of their contributions to our school. Cindy admired the gardens and acknowledged all those who have assisted in its completion. We also received a Torres Strait Islander flag to complete our flag collection to use at assemblies. The Boite choir, trained by Miss Davis, sang two delightful songs from the Torres Strait to accompany the gift. The Grandparents and Friends Morning on Friday was an enjoyable way for our students to share their learning in the classroom. The junior class shared dreamtime stories and created art works, and the senior students competed in an olden day quiz and games. Students assisted in the preparation of morning tea and served scones, lamingtons and quiches. In the evening, we held the SRC Disco. The students enjoyed lemonade spiders and popcorn, as well as dancing under the spinning disco lights. Despite small numbers of attendees, everyone had a lot of fun, especially Honey’s little brother Elijah, who had some groovy moves. A fun day was had by all! Flowerdale Primary School assisted in conducting the Remembrance Day Service at the Community Hall. Thank-you to Olivia, Abby, Oscar,

Violet, Ashlee and Ruby who participated by reading a story, laying wreaths and assisting in the release of the pigeon of peace. Community

members commented on the poise of our students and their excellent reading and writing skills. A piece has been written for the Yea

Chronicle, so look out for that.

The last of the pre-school Art and Music sessions was held this week and I would like to thank Miss Davis for the exciting sessions she has

run to engage children in the Creative Arts. I know the children really enjoyed their time at our school and went home singing new songs,

dancing and showing off their art works to their families.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT CONT…

The Summer Sports held with Yea Primary School and Sacred Heart was a great success on Monday with students participating in tennis, cricket, volleyball or basketball. The highlights were the sportsmanship displayed by our students and the fun of meeting new friends and catching up with old friends. As term 4 progresses, a lot of events and celebrations

seem to be happening very closely together. Please read the newsletter and the Flexi Buzz

reminders carefully to stay on top of notices that need returning or times and dates for

events.

Pumpernickel has flown off to visit a new place in Australia. Can you guess where he went? 1. This place is the 2nd oldest city in Australia. 2. For those who wish to cruise to the Antarctic, this will be the last stop before

embarking on the long southern cruise. 3. This city is about the same size as Sri Lanka and the Republic of Ireland. 4. This city is on the western shore of the Derwent River. 5. This city was founded in 1803 as a penal colony. 6. Tourist attractions include the Salamanca Markets and the

Cadbury chocolate factory.

Research in books and the internet and be ready to be called upon at assembly with your answer. Good luck!

LAST WEEKS ANSWER WAS INDEED COOBER PEDY!

Our October Buddy of the Month was James!

Congratulations to James for consistently demonstrating the values of Respect, Teamwork,

Bouncing Back, Compassion & Personal Best.

The Time of War I am a war Pigeon now. I had to leave my family and friends behind. I looked at my family. My mum was crying. I told her,

“It is ok mum I will be back.” I whispered in her ear. My little sister was very sad. My Dad told me to keep my chin up in bad

times. I started to fly away to the army. I got to the army as fast as I could. I started to settle in when I got to the army. There

were other pigeons in the army like me.

In the war there are a lot of loud noises like, bangs, booms and crashes. They lock me and the other pigeons up at night.

“Tomorrow is the big assignment.” said an army soldier. “Yawn. What? It’s morning already!” Suddenly an army soldier

grabbed the cage and put the cage in a big tent. He put us down on the table. “Pick one and make sure that it is a brave one.”

said the soldier. I got picked.

The people put a small message and strapped it to my foot with a little metal bar. It was so heavy on my little foot that I

could barely fly. But I got used to it fast. A man grabbed me by the wings. I wriggled and pecked. He let me go and I know

why because… he wants me to go to Africa to deliver the message to the other bases.

I flew and flew for days. I flew for so many days that my wings were about to fall off. I was flying over the sea and all of a

sudden I saw a thing in the sea. I went on top of it. It was heading to the way I was. I got to the land after a long rest. I started

to fly to the other base straight up there. “Look there’s a message.” cried a Soldier. I flew to the Soldier and he removed the

band. He took the secret message to the decoder. I felt so proud for delivering the message. My effort could help to win the

war.

On the return flight, I got shot down by a man with a gun. I landed on the ground with a thump. I sacrificed myself for the

people of France.

THE WAR DOG I am Burker. I am German Shephard trained to sense danger on the battlefield. I also carry weapons and some ammunition. I

am wearing a bulletproof jacket so I don’t get wounded.

I am on the battlefield. I warn the soldiers that there is an attack. I hear loud explosions, guns firing and I am hearing the

aircraft overhead. My trainer and I run to the chopper. We jump into the chopper to fight the enemies. This is my trainer’s

chopper.

The enemies start shooting at us in the chopper. We shoot back. My trainer is shooting rockets from the chopper. We quickly

fly away to safety.

Soon the war stopped and everyone was happy.

The War Horse

“I’m in war now. I can’t turn back,” sighed my owner Nick. Nick gave me a hug, “I hope we’ll be ok Brydon” Nick took a

deep breath to calm herself down. We’re in World War 2, in England. A voice as loud as a bomb came out of the speakers,

“EVERYBODY BETTER BE READY FOR A LONG FLIGHT!” Then people started to grab me, pulling me into a room

full of other animals. I started to kick and buck. They pulled me harder as Nick stared, watching them pull me harder as I

move away from them.

I gave up. I did what they said. As they shut the door I fell asleep. Nick was in the room next to me. In the middle of the night

she woke me up, “PSSST Brydon you there?” I walked up to the window, an arm popped out and started to pat me on the

head. “Good night,” she whispered. I neighed to say good night back to her. She quickly climbed off the window and went

back to bed. I turned away from the window, walked to the corner of the room and went back to sleep.

That morning the plane landed. I woke up in shock. Nick opened the door letting me out. She grabbed a saddle and put it on

my back. It felt a bit uncomfortable but I got used to it. She tied bags with guns on the saddle. They were very heavy guns but

I could take it. A man pressed a button that opened the door. I shut my eyes tightly blocking the light from them, once I

opened them every single soldier and animal ran out of the plane, I ran as fast as I could to catch up with them and I did.

That night we set up for camp. Everybody went to bed but I stayed awake, suddenly I heard bombs, dogs started to bark the

noise got louder and louder! I ran and woke up Nick she woke up straight away and looked outside she screamed out “BOMB

ATTACK!!” every single soldier woke up and got their guns.

Helicopters flew in and started shooting. A man pointed his gun at me and pulled the trigger. Nick jumped in front of me and

the bullet hit her instead. Nick dropped to the ground and said her last words, “Good bye Brydon”
