Dear Friends, My new topic in Linkedin titled FLARENET Simulation: Relief Valve Mechanical Back Pressure Limthe details via below link: https://lnkd.in/bNAzATz Due to this fact that in Linkedin the photos cannot be attached to discussion topics I have includedwith relevant photos here. Any idea/experience is highly welcome. FLARENET Simulation: Relief Valve Mechanical Back Pressure Limit API RP 526 imposes limitations on allowable backpressure on all relief valves. These are based onRV components for conventional and for bellows in balanced RVs. Bigger the RV lower is allowablelow as 30-60 psig (2 to 4 barg). Backpressure imposed by flowing RVs or BDVs/ PCVS affects a nnetwork. That means if we have a larger balanced bellows RV, then we cant go by 10% 30% for balanced of a RV set at say 40 bar with an allowable backpressure of 4 12 barg. It can burst thenon-flowing RV. Backpressure in the flare network MUST be limited to that good for all the bellownetwork.

  • Some companies alert their engineers specifically. Some engineers go to the full limit of 150# flare reengineering at a later stage of the project OR may not be aware of this issue resulting in a bad a For few PSV sizes, API 526 allowable inlet flange pressures (or PSV set pressure) are less than ASnoted in para API 526 -2009 11.3. These reduced values are shown in parenthesis in API RP 526 taresult in higher inlet flange rating for the PSV than that of a base vessel, usually for bigger sizes. In FLARENET software besides Allowable backpressure term in conditions section, there is one fEditor page => Valve Design Section => Mech. BP limit. The former BP limit is the one that will affeof the relief valve once needed to be open and if exceeded the allowable limit (for example 10% of conventional relief valve) will have direct impact on relief valve operation. The latter BP limit is the o526 standard:

  • Mechanical BP limit term is included in FLARENET software to cover these outlet pressure limit valthis fact that relief valve is open or closed when exposed to such back pressure. For this option to work for non-flowing relief sources under a specific scenario, the Calculation ignzero flow item in calculation options editor => General tab should be checked otherwise even if thexceeded no warning will appear for user:
