A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Most would agree that exceptional customer service is essential to building a brand and consumer loyalty that can sustain your business even through the most difficult economy.

We can all recall examples of excellent customer service that caused us to return to a business and poor customer service that resulted in our vowing to never return again.

Given the importance of customer service to any successful business plan, the Roseville Chamber thought it would be valuable to learn strategies from the one business that epitomizes exceptional customer service perhaps better than any other – Disney.

This year’s Roseville 2013 will feature Doug Lipp, an internationally acclaimed expert on customer service and change management who was formally the head of training at Disney’s corporate headquarters. In his role, Doug developed the famous Disney University “Traditions” program and guided Disney through a culture change that helped it become one of the most recognizable and respected corporations in the world.

Doug’s recipe for outstanding customer service focuses on a balanced approach to service, leadership and teamwork that has not only worked for Disney but other leading organizations such as AT&T, Marriott, BMW and Proctor and Gamble. We think it just might work for your business too.

Doug’s insights are so sought after that his talks typically sell out quickly. So as your business imagines what it can be in 2013, we hope you will join us on May 31st at Roseville 2013’s “Reimagine U” and learn from Doug how the magic of exceptional customer service can benefit you.

A publication of the Roseville Chamber of Commerce, the Insight newlsetter is produced bi-monthly.

GOOD NEWS FROM THE CEO

Wendy GerigRoseville Chamber of Commerce

Roseville Chamber of Commerce, serving Roseville and Granite Bay, is proud to be an accredited four-star Chamber of Commerce. The Accreditation Program was instituted by the U.S. Chamber to recognize effective organization performance. Only 10% of the Chambers throughout the nation successfully complete the accreditation process for this voluntary program and less than 1.2% achieve four-star status.

An Often Overlooked Benefit...

Take a look at how your Chamber membership is working for you…

44 When consumers know a small business is a member of the chamber of commerce, they are 44 percent more likely to think favorably of it.

63 When consumers know a small business is a member of the chamber of commerce, they are 63 percent more likely to purchase goods or services from the company in

the future.

12 If a company shows it is highly involved in its local chamber, consumers are 12 percent more likely to think its products stack up better than its competition.

70 percent of consumers say belonging to the Chamber demonstrates you use good business practices.

Every week I am amazed to see the opportunities local businesses gain by building relationships with one

another at Chamber networking events. While helping businesses make connections in the community is core to our organization, increasing consumer confidence and influencing where they spend their dollars is an often overlooked, but powerful component of Chamber membership.

A recent national study by The Shapiro Group, an Atlanta-based research firm, found that Chamber membership alone directly impacts consumer patronage.

As you network and attend events, keep in mind that your membership alone is working for you to demonstrate to consumers and other businesses that your company is a strong supporter of the local business community.

“The Roseville Chamber of Commerce has been instrumental in building my business. I’ve been able

to get more involved in my community - the Chamber keeps me informed about local events and how I can

volunteer my time or simply show up!” Amy Brashears

Times Are A-Changin’: Customer Service Remains Key

Now more than ever businesses are pushing the envelope with innovative approaches. In this ever-

changing business climate the impact of technology is unmistakable. Has your company taken time to hone in on the one aspect that will remain central to any company no matter what the technology – exceptional customer service?

At Roseville 2013 on Friday, May 31, 2013, your company will have the opportunity to do just that - REIMAGINE U.

Roseville 2013 is the Roseville Chamber of Commerce’s marquis business and economic development event in the region. It is designed to provide business and

industry members from the region with insight from world-renown speakers, business resources and networking opportunities to take their organizations to the next level.

This year, discover The Magic of Exceptional Customer Service with Doug Lipp, former head of training at Disney University. Lipp will share his expertise on the customer service that has made Disney one of the most recognizable brands in the world. Kirk Taber, of Taber Creative Group, said Roseville 2013 has something to offer for every type of business.

“This will be a good opportunity to hear from a former Disney executive who understands how customer service can positively impact your business or community,” Taber said. “Clearly it is high-level networking, but also provides the the attendee an opportunity to reimagine his or her own approaches to business development, business retention and how customer service is integral to those.”

What You Will Learn: Doug Lipp, a local resident, is a world-renowned speaker and acclaimed expert on customer service, leadership, change management and global competitiveness. He has inspired and challenged hundreds of thousands of audiences as a keynote speaker, business consultant and author. Doug’s thought-provoking messages and high energy, entertaining style motivate audiences around the world to maximize both personal and professional success.

Recent Releases: Doug released the book Disney U on March 29, 2013. Discover why this training dynast is studied around the world. Doug’s interviews with Disney legends and visionaries that worked with Walt share this story.

Designwerks Media Serves Up An Innovative Approach to Creative Design

Shaun Lupton, owner of Designwerks Media in Roseville, wants his team’s creative studio to be “as far away from corporate America

as we can; no cubicles here!”

From their sleek, modern office, complete with a green screen, Designwerks Media has launched every aspect of the creative campaigns for major brands such as Speed Golf International and The Daily Crave – Veggie Chips. For Speed Golf International they performed custom web design, custom development, created video commercials, apparel printing and embroidery and branding. Speed

Golf International was featured during a 30-minute special on CBS before the Masters Tournament.

Lupton said the ability of his company to do so many different types of creative projects well is one of their greatest strengths. Another wild card is the relatively young staff they employ.

“Our staff’s ages range from 21-38. While it may seem young to some,

many of us have been working professionally in our fields for 10 or more years and have grown with the industry and all the new technology that goes with it,” Lupton said.

The close-knit team believes that every client deserves a fresh approach and their Roseville studio enables Designwerks Media

to customize branding packages based on those needs. It is an approach that has paid off, as many of their clients have grown with them over the years.

“We call ourselves a creative studio first,” Lupton said. “There is no project alike and working in a lot of different areas of the creative field keeps us on our toes and keeps the creative juices flowing.”

Stieber’s Sweetens RosevilleQ. “What makes Stieber’s a special place to get candy and treats?”A. “Stieber’s is a special place for candy and treats because we are a family-owned business with an exceptionally friendly staff and old-fashioned customer service. When you come into our store, you are greeted by lots of bright colors and televisions playing kids movies and sports. We have over 300 candy choices.” Q. “How have you reimagined the buying experience for your customers?”A. “We want to be known for our customer service, where our candy specialists will go above and beyond to make our customers feel special with our extra touches in the store and at check-out. We can customize requests for baskets and gift boxes. Our family has always wanted to open a candy store and work together. We feel very fortunate to be able to make this dream become a reality”

CITY OF ROSEVILLE UPDATE

Ray KerridgeCity Manager

Roseville on the Cutting-Edge of Revitalization

“Forward thinking” and “proactive” are terms long associated with the City of Roseville, from city incorporation in 1909 to starting our own fire department and developing city-owned and operated electric and water utilities.

With recent vision, the City was already working to retool the organization before the sharp economic downturn. Cost-cutting, restructuring and staffing changes began in 2007 and ensured Roseville weathered the storm better than many cities in California. Today, we are sleeker and better structured to provide residents and businesses with a consistently high level of service.

We changed the way we approached revitalization by forming the Roseville Community Development Corporation before the state eliminated redevelopment agencies. Reimaging how we approach business attraction lead the formation of Advantage Roseville, a public-private partnership that is poised for success.

Staying ahead of the game has allowed Roseville to have a much greater say in the outcomes that affect all of us.

HAVE TO” -Jack Welch

Q. What do you enjoy most about being an Ambassador?

A. My personality is social. I am a home-based business, so being an Ambassador keeps me active in the community and out meeting great people. This is my third business in the Chamber and over the years I have made hundreds of thousands of dollars [from the connections]. You get to know the people who are leaving the corporate world behind to start their own businesses. I feel like I am mentoring them.

Q. What advice do you have for other members about how to maximize their memberships?

A. I always tell people don’t [attend Chamber events] for just six months or a year and give up because sometimes it take a year or longer to make your money. You can’t just meet somebody once. Stay committed and eventually it pays off.

Q. What sets your company apart?

A. We have 25 years of experience in concrete and we have a C8 Concrete License. We have reasonable rates with five-star work.
