A massive well done to Team Ferndale who are doing such an amazing job, walking, running and cycling around Swindon. All of our children, staff, families and friends are getting healthy and having fun. We have made it to Hollywood so far and are well on the way to more exotic destinations on our quest to Beat the Street. Thank you all so much and keep up the fantastic work. If you haven’t got a card yet, it’s not too late; pop into Morrisons, Asda or the library to pick one up. We will be giving out spot prizes as well this week: a family Oasis swimming ticket, a family trampolining ticket for the Link Centre and a family ticket to a STFC match. A big thank you to the Oasis, Link Centre and STFC for their donations. Only three weeks to go of Term 1 so don’t forget to sign up to the October holiday club. A range of activities have been planned, including pumpkin carving, making bird feeders, autumn lanterns and dressing up in spooky clothes. If you are interested in signing your child up for the sessions during the week, please contact the office for further information. The deadline for booking is Monday 8 th October. “It’s another Harvest Festival” and we’re busy learning harvest songs ready for our festival over at All Saints church on Wednesday 10 th October. This year we are collecting for the Swindon Food Cooperative (see the letter at the end of this newsletter) and would be very grateful if children could bring their donations in on the 10 th to take over to the church where they will be collected later that week. As in previous years, the festival is for children only, as we are unable to fit parents into the church. Year 4 children will be off to Legge House for their residential trip during the week beginning 15 th October. Kalahari will be going from Monday to Wednesday and Zambezi from Wednesday until Friday. The children who are not going on either trip will be undertaking an exciting project in school for the week. Fingers crossed for good weather, but either way, we know they will all have a fantastic time. A big thank you to the staff who are going, who will be giving up their own time.

WOW!!!! A massive well done to Team Ferndale who are doing such an amazing job, walking, running and cycling around Swindon. All of our children, staff,

families and friends are getting healthy and having fun. We have made it to Hollywood so far and are well on the way to more exotic destinations on our

quest to Beat the Street. Thank you all so much and keep up the fantastic work.

If you haven’t got a card yet, it’s not too late; pop into Morrisons, Asda or the library to pick one up. We will be giving out spot prizes as well this week: a family

Oasis swimming ticket, a family trampolining ticket for the Link Centre and a family ticket to a STFC match.

A big thank you to the Oasis, Link Centre and STFC for their donations.

Only three weeks to go of Term 1 so don’t forget to sign up to the October

holiday club. A range of activities have been planned, including pumpkin carving, making bird feeders, autumn lanterns and dressing up in spooky clothes. If you

are interested in signing your child up for the sessions during the week, please

contact the office for further information. The deadline for booking is Monday 8th October.

“It’s another Harvest Festival” and we’re busy learning harvest songs ready for

our festival over at All Saints church on Wednesday 10th October. This year we are collecting for the Swindon Food Cooperative (see the letter at the end of this

newsletter) and would be very grateful if children could bring their donations in

on the 10th to take over to the church where they will be collected later that week. As in previous years, the festival is for children only, as we are unable to

fit parents into the church.

Year 4 children will be off to Legge House for their residential trip during the week

beginning 15th October. Kalahari will be going from Monday to Wednesday and

Zambezi from Wednesday until Friday. The children who are not going on either trip will be undertaking an exciting project in school for the week. Fingers crossed

for good weather, but either way, we know they will all have a fantastic time. A big thank you to the staff who are going, who will be giving up their own time.

The new school council have been elected and are already on the case, thinking of priorities for this year. They will be representing the school at the

Poppy Appeal Launch at STEAM on 26th October where they’ll be mixing with British Legion dignitaries and will have a tour of the museum. The council will

be meeting on a regular basis to discuss issues, raise questions and suggest

debates. It looks to be an exciting year ahead.

Hopefully you have now received a letter about our two history days on Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd October to mark the

centenary of the end of World War 1. With so much planned,

we’re worried that we won’t have time to fit everything in! We do hope you’ll be able to join us for our open afternoon, from 2:30pm

on the Tuesday, where you can work alongside your child/children to make a poppy for our whole school display.

Details of the parents evening online booking system will be sent out this week via text/email. We look forward to seeing you on the evenings of Wednesday

17th and Thursday 18th October. As in previous years, there will be a questionnaire for you to complete. We do value your views and opinions and

look forward to hearing your feedback and suggestions.

With the increased volume of traffic now coming into the Fernbrook and Ferndale site, we would firstly like to thank parents for their consideration of others and patience

when parking. There was, however, recently an incident where our Lollipop lady was nearly hit by a

car. We really appreciate the job she does, ensuring our children arrive safely into

school and do ask that parents driving to and from the school, do so safely.

All children who have achieved 100% attendance for the month were in with a chance to win a fantastic prize of a family swim

ticket courtesy of Oasis Leisure Centre.

September’s winner is Nujen in Uffington Class. Well done and we hope you have wonderful time!

Don’t forget, each month any child who has 100% for that month will be in with a chance of winning a family swim ticket.

Every day attendance is so important to your child’s education and therefore their future job prospects. Good habits start now!

This includes being on time for school

Please note that being late does effect your childs attendance. There will be a

prize each term for the class with the best attendance. Will that be your childs

class?

LINK TO HOPE SHOEBOX APPEAL We are once again supporting the Link to Hope Shoebox Scheme by providing items

for their shoeboxes. Link to Hope are working on a range of projects throughout

Eastern Europe. Their success and good reputation is based on 23 years of dedication by a range of individuals who want to offer the hand of friendship, finance

and knowledge to the people of these countries to lift them out of poverty. Link to Hope offers help to people of all backgrounds regardless of race, colour or creed.

Volunteers from All Saints Church have been putting together boxes and are looking to have them completed by the October break.

We are looking for specific items to fill the adult boxes: Socks

Gloves

Men’s hankies

Shampoo

Flannels

Playing cards

Dominoes

Note pads

Pens

Screwdrivers

Artist paintbrushes

If you would like to fill your own shoebox, please see the list at the end of this newsletter for suggested items to include.

It’s been a fantastic start to the year with children getting warm and fuzzies for

showing amazing behaviour around school. We have had a record 9 classes who have reached 100 in the first month. Well done to all our classes that have achieved

100 and for our current champions, Loch Ness, for crossing the first hundred barrier.

There are only three weeks left to see who will be getting our first non-uniform day.

On Saturday 13th October from 12:00pm to 3:00pm we will be having the first of three Community Days that we will be holding this year (see the poster at the end of

the newsletter). There will be lots of activities for the whole family to enjoy, whilst

improving the school environment for all our children. We look forward to seeing you there.

Each lunchtime the Courtyard is used for different activities with the children e.g. colouring, small world, model making etc. All the equipment and resources are kept

in two large boxes in the courtyard. Could we please request that parents before and after school do not open these boxes or remove any of the resources? Many thanks
