ALLELUIA! ALLELU-IA! ALLELUIA!

As Christians univer-sal rejoice in the resurrec-tion of the Lord, we take time to reflect not only on the day, but on the mean-ing that Easter gives to all who live and die believ-ing in the fact that Jesus Christ is Lord!

Many years ago I befriended a Jewish couple and we became very close. He and his wife attended Midnight Mass wherever I was, and myself regularly attending bar-mitzvah’s when he was the rab-binical teacher. Over the years his wife contracted cancer and we spent many mornings praying together–praying for God’s mercy and healing. The morning she died, I was not able to make it to town until late that evening. When I arrived, the husband hugged and kissed me saying, “Now I am jeal-ous of you.” Not having a wife, I asked what he meant, and he said “You have hope, all I have now is a body.”ALLELUIA! HE IS RISEN!

That statement had such a pro-found impact at that very moment, that Easter was never to be the same again. As we live life on life’s terms and find ourselves having to deal with the un-expected and having to say good-bye to people that we do not feel we can live without, we as Christians are con-soled and strengthened by the fact that the good-bye is temporary, yet eternal life is permanent. After experiencing the Last Sup-per, then the crucifixion, suffering and death of our Lord, the disciples must have felt pretty empty, alone, and for all intents and purpose, they probably felt their world had ended.

When Jesus appeared on that eve-

ning of the first day of the week, now glorified, no longer bruised, bloody and beaten they had to know that even death cannot overcome those who live and die believ-ing in Christ our savior.

This experience of the Paschal Mystery, is not only a lesson in death it is a blueprint for life. How

often has some of the pain of our most difficult moments lead us to the glory of a new revelation of our strength, our lives and our loves? How many relationships are stronger and more honest after they have been through painful situations? How many proj-ects have become stronger and more durable because we had faced the pos-sibility of losing it all, but through out struggle, the lessons we learned have made them more successful and made us stronger?

Jackson United Methodist Church hosted a special Lenten pro-gram on March 10. After a pizza party, Jane Knight a potter, retired social worker, spiritual director and member of Aldersgate UMC in Slidell, gave a program called “I Am the Clay.”

While shaping a piece of clay, Knight related to the audience one of the most powerful stories in the Bible–the story of the potter and the clay. She spoke about how God is the Master Potter, crafting each of us into vessels fit for the Master’s use. Each day, He molds, shapes and reshapes us.

At the end of the program each individual had a chance to take a piece of clay and mold something in his or her hands.

NRCS in Clinton Taking Applications for Wetlands ProgramFirst Application Evaluation Period for FY 2014 Funding Ends July 19, 2013

The U.S. Department of Agricul-ture’s Natural Resources Conserva-tion is soliciting applications from landowners interested in restoring or enhancing wetlands on private ag-ricultural land in Louisiana through the Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP). The first application evalua-tion period for fiscal year 2013 WRP funding ends July 19, 2013, and in-terested private landowners are en-couraged to visit the Clinton Field Office as soon as possible to begin

the application process. The WRP provides financial in-

centives to landowners to restore their land to its natural wetland con-dition with an emphasis on enhanc-ing wildlife habitats and environ-mental benefits. Participation in this program is voluntary, and restora-tion is accomplished in an environ-mentally safe, cost-effective man-ner.

“WRP is a popular program in Louisiana,” said Eddie Foster, dis-

trict conservationist in the Clinton Field Office. “If you want to be con-sidered for fiscal year 2014 funding, make sure to visit us in the Clinton Office before July 19.”

Landowners have several options for enrollment in WRP, including restoration cost-share agreements, 30-year conservation easements, and permanent conservation ease-ments—all designed to help land-owners achieve personal land use goals.

Interested landowners are en-couraged to contact the local USDA Service Center/Natural Resources Conservation Service Field Office today to apply for fiscal year 2014 funding.

Contact the Clinton Field Office at 225-683-5496, ext. 3 or stop by the office at 9752 Plank Rd. Pro-gram information is also available online at www.la.nrcs.usda.gov.

passed away on March 14, 2013. From Baton Rouge, Anselmo was born December 14, 1962. James was 50 years of age at his passing.

He is survived by his wife Kim-berly Hornsby, sons Jeremy An-selmo and Caleb Anselmo and wife Brittney Anselmo; his daughters Faith Anselmo, Jennifer Anselmo and Autumn Anselmo; his grandson Sam Anselmo and his father, Lyman Anselmo and mother Judy Henson. He is also survived by two siblings Roman Anselmo and Lisa Anselmo Bambarger.

The Twentieth Judicial District Attorney, Sam D’Aquilla, spon-sored a hunter education class on March 16 and 17 at the Jackson Civic Center in Jackson instructed by District Attorney Investigator Shane Bourgeois and District Attor-ney Sam D’Aquilla and assisted by Wildlife and Fisheries Senior Agent Carl Armstrong and Wildlife and Fisheries Lieutenant Will Roberts. There were 36 participants that suc-cessfully passed the course.

Louisiana law requires manda-tory hunter education for anyone born on or after September 1, 1969. All hunters must successfully com-plete the course prior to purchasing

a hunting license. Hunters who plan to hunt out of state should check the state regulation where they plan to hunt. All 50 states now require some form of mandatory hunter educa-tion certification prior to issuing a license.

The Twentieth Judicial District Attorney Sam D’Aquilla would like to give special thanks to all who helped to make this event possible especially for the use of the Jackson Civic Center, Debbie Bennett, Marcy Robinson, Mary Dufour, Domnicha London and Rickie Collins.

The next Hunter Education class is scheduled for September 2013.
