nia was organized by the
12-Batch Computer Sys-
tem department of
Mehran University of Engi-
neering & Technology,
Jamshoro. The beautiful
environment of event
changed the moods of
students.
Participants were zealous
to face the challenges of
games. The games chosen
were FIFA, Cricket 07,
Counter Strike, NFS, Candy
Crush, and Subway Surfer.

was great time for all students who attended the
event. All winners were awarded with certificates
and cash prizes. TCG has always been successful to
fulfill the aim of event that was to entertain the
students. This event refreshed the students from
their boring and stressful life. Such events are en-
couraged to be held to improve the competitive
abilities in future, too.

For the starting of this year, American Soci-
ety of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) had
organized KNOWAFEST, one of the best
events of Mehran University of Engineering
and Technology (MUET). This event was
designed by active members of ASME soci-
ety and they succeeded to design it in an
efficient way.
This event was not only organized for en-
hancing the confidence and public speak-
ing level of the students but was also for
showing hidden talent of students of
MUET. There were many unique and differ-
ent sorts of competitions and interesting
activities in this event which captured the
eye of students for joining and partici-
pating in it. The event was managed very
sincerely and honestly by the members.
The members were very active and earnest
with their tasks, every element of this
event was well -planned.KNOWAFEST was
a platform to show talent by means of
competitions. There were three competi-
tions in this event, QUIZ, TABLEAU and
VIDEOGRAPHY competition. For each com-
petition, auditions were taken by ASME
members in the preceding days of event,
and selected deserved shining students
for competions as per their talent. The
event was hosted very smartly by mean of
time. The uniqueness of this event was Live
Singing Concert which has done by a very
popular local band, SIGNATURE BAND. The
appreciation of this band was seen when
the audience stood up from their seats and
started singing with them. This band won
the hearts of audience with its perfor-
mance and made their night joyful. This
event was of two days and most of the
students had pleasure to join this event.
KNOWAFEST was a bright way for future
events and event organizers. It was one of
the best events in the history of MUET.

Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs)
Rapid enhancement in the field of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) leads a varie-
ty of applications such as: Smart Road Applications, Micro-Climate Monitoring and
Structural Monitoring. One amongst these is human healthcare which originates
the use of Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs). A group from 10TL batch had
made their final year project on the concept of WBAN, which helps in providing
uninterrupted monitoring of patients so as to restrain the adverse health effects.
The rapid evolution in the field of Tele-medicine provoked us to work on WBANs.
The project aims to serve helpless population of remote areas and provide them a
novel system to save their lives. In WBANs, a number of sensors are deployed on
the human body in order to collect application specific data. The evolution of
WBANs has been able to provide breakthrough solution to provide ubiquitous
treatment of patients who are being monitored by their health specialists.

Fig 1 renders an idea that how sensors motes are deployed on human
body and how do they communicate. We have proposed the idea of
information exchange for the Intra-WBAN communication. Various
WBAN sensors are deployed on the human body to calculate pa-
rameters like ECG, body temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate etc.
Sensors are integrated as the Iris motes which would sense the differ-
ent vital signs, would collect and send this information to the base sta-
tion placed at the abdomen using Zig bee interface. Data from the
base station would be send to the laptop and from where it could be
relayed to any medical server.
Iris Motes
Future work :
Above research work is about the efficient topological behaviour de-
sirable to ensure reliability, link quality and efficient power utilization.
Along with this, the integration of the health sensors with the iris
mote is to open the new paradigm for the integrating techniques of
sensors. Future WBANs design include concentrating on the number
of areas including the hardware and protocol design.
Achievements :
Their project has been awarded 1st prize in Poster Session during “1st International Conference on Wireless Sensor Networks for De-veloping Countries 2013”, held at MUET Jamshoro, Pakistan.
Selected as one of Top 5 ideas presented in Student Poster Con-
test of “IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference (GHTC 2013)”, held in 20-23 October at San Jose, California, USA.

Recently a new technology has been
introduced in the world which claims
to be “The Fastest Internet Speed"
ever which can hit 1.4 terabits per
second. A French company Alcatel
lucent and researchers of British tele-
communications (BT) had start work-
ing on it.
Making:- The trail was carried out using ex-
isting fiber optic cable over an area
of 410.383km, specifically between
Ipswich and Central London. Re-
searchers used new flexi grid Infra-
structure to increase the gaps be-
tween several transmission chan-
nels. It allows multiple signals to be
laid over the top of one another
within entire cable. By using flexi
grid an “Alien super channel “was
created which is comprised of sev-
en 200 Gb/s parallel channels, this
boost up transmission efficiency by
42.5% over available broadband
networks. The most exciting spe-
cialty of this connection is that it
doesn’t need any expensive up-
grade it can be done with existing
optic fiber cables by only using flexi
grid.
Applications:-
It is very fast which is out of our
imaginations.
44 HD movies can be download-
ed in a single second.
Download 36,409 songs within a
single second.
The entire English version of
Wikipedia would take just 0.006
seconds.

Google Glass is also known as a
“Wearable Computer”. Designed and
shaped as simple eye glasses. It has a
small optical head-mounted display on
the side of the glass. A screen appears
in-front of the eye, there is a camera
fitted on the outer corner of the glass
and touch pad on the side stick.
Figure 1: Google Glass
Along with Google, Babak Parviz (an
electrical engineer) led the project
Glass. They were the ones who
brought up the idea of these glasses,
which made a bombastic evolution in
our world.
It was first introduced in 2011 and up-
till now, a few changes have been
made in it. It is simple, slim, small and
light in weight.
Google glasses are known for its quali-
ties, which are:
It has android 4.0.4
Camera of 5-mega Pixel
Video Recorder
Wi-Fi (Internet Browser)
Storage of 16 GB
RAM 682 MB
Bone Conduction an Audio Trans-
coder etc.
These Google Glass have enormous
advantages. It can take pictures, record
videos hand free. It can share whatev-
er you see live. It connects one to the
social media such as Facebook, Twitter
and Gmail and can also provide a direc-
tion of a place. It translates your voice
in any other language. This is a device
with gigantic advantages.
These glasses can be activated with
either the command ‘Ok Glass’ or by a
gesture of hands made by the wearer.
Once the glasses get activated, they
wait for further commands, for exam-
ple: If the wearer wants to take a pic-
ture, he commands ‘Take a picture’
and it will instantaneously take a pic-
ture. Likewise for video recording just
command ‘Record Video’ and it
will start recording the video.
Google Glass is a wearable
Smartphone; it has intended to
make everyday life much easier.
Time Magazine gave Google Glass
a title of “Best Invention of the
Year 2012”.
Progress:-
After the success of field test Re-
searchers thought that it could be
helpful for consumer and business
demand for increased bandwidth.
Optical marketing leader of Alcatel-
lucent Kevin told BBC news that this
development was similar to in-
crease the amount of lanes availa-
ble to network traffic during rush
hour. Unfortunately this mega
speed is under process and would
take some years to be implemented
so that it can meet consumer and
business demand. A lot of benefits
are being expected from this devel-
opment. Hopefully this technology
will be implemented in UK by 2017.
