YO U ’ V E H EA R D I T SA I D A H U N D R E D T I M E S before, in one non-profit’s slogan or another, because i t is t rue. Every aspect of life begins with water. Clean water changes everything; it is vitally important sustain our lives, Consequently, it also provides a wonderful beginning place to spread the Gospel. Water is tangible “good news” to the thirsty, the sick, and the weary. Through consistent prayer and generous financial gifts over

the last twelve years, the Lord has opened in ternat iona l doors of oppor-tunity to the clean w a t e r

m i n i s t r y we could have never imagined. With humble and thankful hearts, Healing Hands International announces and celebrates the completion of i ts 500th clean water well at the Dagou church of Christ in Hait i this month. In add i t ion to c lean wa te r w e l l s , o v e r 2 5 0 0 S a w y e r water f i l ters have been distr ibuted where water wells could not be drilled. Through the grace of God, we’ve been able to provide clean water for more than a million people, opening the doors for the good news of Jesus Christ to be shared. We pray these efforts shine the light of Christ and that those who now drink clean water will come to know him. The d r i l l i ng p rogram began in 2001 i n the na t ion o f Ethiopia. Since that time, after purchasing, maintaining, and registering three drilling rigs, HHI has drilled 500 clean water wells in 10 different countries. Drilling in the 11th country, Sou th Sudan , w i l l beg in in the nex t few months . Our well driller, Curt King, and his wife Mary, serve as a vital part of this m in i s t r y. The coup le spends s i x

m o n t h s l i v i n g i n Eth iopia and s ix months in Hai t i during the year. Later this year, they wil l add South Sudan to the list of countries they call home. Curt says, “Mary and I are blessed to play a small part of the whole process of giving fresh water to the thirsty in Jesus’ name. Some give money, some work in the office, some work to make sure paper work and licenses are in order, well sites selected, and so many pray. It truly takes a group of workers to accomplish the task of providing clean water to the thirsty. We are privileged to be the ones to see the excitement and thankfulness on the faces of those who will use the clean water. I wish we could convey the moment when they realize what God has given them!“ You have served this ministry by participating in 43 Walk 4 Water’s in 8 different states since our water ministry began. Through these awareness walks, you have raised over $360,000.00 for clean water wells in 11 different countries all over the world. This amount, coupled with generous gifts from individual donors has given the resources necessary to continue providing clean water to our neighbors who do not have access to such a luxury. To our God, prayer warriors, drillers, donors, and Walk 4 Water hosts and participants. . .we are so thankful. With your generous hearts, you have made this great milestone possible. If you are interested i n l e a r n i n g m o r e abou t the Clean Water ministry at HHI or in g i v ing to the ministry f inancial ly, please contact Joseph Smith at [email protected] For infor-mation on hosting a Walk 4 Water, contact Lara Jenkins at [email protected]. THE FOOD SUSTAINABILITY WORKSHOP at the Ringroad Church of Christ in Kisumu this September was one to put in the books. Greg and Suzy Williams from the North Atlanta Church of Christ in Atlanta were instrumental to this workshop’s success. Greg and Suzy had been to Kisumu before and were interested in assisting the church and the orphanage there with a sustainable agriculture workshop. A f t e r meet ing with Director of Agriculture Carl Burkybile to discuss the content of the HHI Agriculture workshop, they decided to become deeply involved in this project. Both

Greg and Suzy attended the Spring Agricultural workshop held

in Nashville, Tennessee in preparation for their trip to Kenya., so they

would have a good understanding of

the material they would

help to

teach alongside our African Agriculture team, Director Ebenezer Udofia, Region-al Trainer Jannette Akoth, and Minister at Ringroad, George Obonyo. The talent, expertise, and success demonstrated by this team is just a small part of the larger picture of HHI’s Sustainable Ag-riculture work in Africa and around the world. African Regional Trainers Stanley Msanzu, Joseph Edema, Justus Matua, and Joseph Ole Saoli are conducting life changing workshops like this one on a regular basis in their respective areas of the continent. At the end of their time in Kenya, Greg and Suzy reported: “All fifty–nine of the

participants were from a broad geographic area in western Kenya and from twenty–two

different churches of Christ, commu-nity groups, and other churches. Most of these Kenyans are already practicing some level of farming

and were eager to learn more.” The participants were very inter-

ested, quickly grasped and applied principles in the demonstrations, and

asked very good questions. It was also a

time of spiritual refreshment as the participants from different places were engaged in one on one, as well as group interactions and fellowship. Later on, the full Healing Hands food sustainability curriculum was taught through demonstration. Teachers equipped all the students with the skills necessary for success in their gardens while assuring all the graduates that as soon as they returned home and implemented the skills, George Obonyo would come around to see and provide drip kits to them. The participants were very grateful to Healing Hands International for the training and many expressions of gratitude were made. For instance, John Orumbo said “If I had known these techniques when I first became a Christian, I would not have been a begging Preacher”. Now, John Orumbo has a means to support himself, his family, and his ministry. Praise God! We strongly believe that the Lord will use this training to bless the people in Kenya both physically and spiritually.

A New School Year Begins in Haiti As we move into a new school year at the school in Ganthier, Haiti HHI is expecting wonderful things to come out of the next nine months of this school year. After a year of delight and disappointment, of success and defeat, we proclaim a renewed vision of reworked goals and dreams. Through thick and thin, the Lord has been and continues to be faithful through it all. There is no doubt He is alive and at work in the Ganthier school.

Dr. Solley took a team of American teachers for the first two w e e k s o f October to walk a l o n g s i d e

Haitian teachers and students as they put their year long study of how to best teach children to read, write, and imagine into action. Their presence was well received and appreciated. As the school year continues, join us in praying that the teachers and students will have joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Above all, we pray that in this coming year, Ganthier will be a school that is known for its love: the love of Jesus.

THROUGH THICK AND THIN, THE LORD CONTINUES TO REVEAL HIS GLORY IN HAITI. THERE IS NO DOUBT HE IS ALIVE AND WORKING IN THE GANTHIER SCHOOL.

Making A Godly Impact in Honduras and at Home HHI picked up the biggest single load of M.A.G.I. boxes EVER from the Brighton church of Christ in Brighton, Michigan this year. The church family of about 120 members packed, wrapped, and raised the shipping funds for a jaw-dropping 1637 boxes to send to Honduras for Christmas. A few years ago, the church at Brighton began their HHI M.A.G.I. box collection, filling 500 boxes. Anxious to do more, every year since then, they have given HHI larger and larger numbers of boxes. Their goal for 2014? Well, Gail Miller says she never sets “goals” because the Lord’s plans always exceed hers. We did, however, provide 2000 new, empty M.A.G.I. boxes to work on for the

coming year....wow! Gail Miller, Mike and

Deborah Knust, and Ray-ola Bryne have been instrumental in developing the ministry. Their church

family and a number of people from their community have become involved with this project! To pay for the shipping costs for the box-es, the church hosts yard sales where all the proceeds go toward the M.A.G.I. project. This church family of 120 members collects items year round in anticipation for their annual M.A.G.I. box packing day, which takes place in the fellowship hall. As you can tell, this ministry not only serves as an outreach to Honduras, but also as an outreach tool for their own community. They find that when they invite their community to be involved in a project like this, neighbors are more

than willing to partner together in making good happen. This relationship opens the door to long term ministry in their community. Thank you to this church for their example on how to make a Godly impact both abroad and at home. We can’t wait to hear how your M.A.G.I. project develops in the future!

ABOUT TEN YEARS AGO IN A VILLAGE IN NORTHERN Ghana, a young woman was given in marriage by her fam-ily to a man whose character they did not ful ly know. In the course o f t ime, Ab iga i l gave fou r ch i ld ren to her husband. But he was greedy and took a second wife.

In typical polygamous marriages, the second wife shows respect to the senior wife. But that was not to be for Abigail . Instead, the husband and second wife teamed up to beat her cruelly and frequently, leaving her scarred physically and emotionally. Just over a year ago, she was able to escape with the two youngest chil-dren, both under f ive years old. She found her way to Elizabeth Yakubu’s vocational school for deprived girls, hoping to learn some skil ls that would help her provide for herself and her two babies. Through Elizabeth’s kind counsel and encouragement, Abigail bloomed and opened her heart to Jesus, beginning the long road from abuse to healing. In early 2012, when Elizabeth’s school received a Konkomba Proclaimer Bible, which reads the New Testament aloud, Abigail was ecstatic. She was clearly hungry for God’s Word, and she has fed deeply each day of this new journey. She and her classmates l isten to the Proclaimer while doing their tai loring lessons, and Abigail records it on her cell phone to take home to l isten to at night with her children.

El izabeth trains her students to make lotion and soap from shea butter. Abigail has discovered her natural gift for marketing, and now sells Elizabeth’s products on village market days, at the Saturday market, and on Sundays after church. With the ful l range of business ski l ls that she is acquiring under El izabeth’s tutelage, she wil l soon move into the role of trainer to help El izabeth meet the demand for workshops in economic ski l ls for women.

Although Abigail is unusually clever, she never had a chance to learn to read or write when she was young. Knowing how important l i teracy is, she has seized the opportunity to attend Adult Education c lasses a t night after her day at school, learning first in Konk-omba, and planning to move next to learning English.

Abigail has come a long way since she arrived at El iza-beth’s school in 2012. And today she has confidence in herself, and knows that as a Christian under God’s guidance, she can make a decent life for herself and her children with the ski l ls she has learned. In her vision of hope for the future, she sees herself with a tai loring shop, making clothes for

people and sell ing shea products that she makes herself. Through the support she has received from the Women Worth A Million ministry in her business, Abigail is now on her way to living life more fully physically and spiritually. Praise to God for His blessings! Written by Dr. WIlla Finley

THROUGH ELIZABETH’S COUNSEL AND ENCOURAGEMENT, ABIGAIL BLOOMED AND OPENED HER HEART TO JESUS, BEGINNING THE LONG ROAD FROM ABUSE TO HEALING.

In October, Dr. Clifton Ganus, Chancellor Emeritus and former president of Harding University, made the trip to Haiti with Harry Hames to see the work of Healing Hands International. Ninety–one year old Dr. Ganus has been to more than one hundred and fifteen different countries, teaching, preaching, exploring, and sightseeing. He calls his love for traveling the world a “wanderlust.”

While on the ground, Dr. Ganus met local Haitians in villages and tent cities in Gonaives, Port-Au-Prince, and Cite Soleil, surveyed agricultural projects, visited orphan-

ages, and preached at the church at Delmas and the church in Santo. Brother Pacius (yellow shirt), who Dr. G a n u s m e t w h i l e i n G o n a i v e s , coordi -nates twenty–nine churches in the area, several of which Dr. Ganus had the chance to visit. Touring the Ganthier Christ ian School– where our Education ministry began, was also a highlight of the week-long trip. Brother Pierre (pink shirt) served as translator for the entire tour. Of the hundreds of countries Dr. Ganus has been to, he remarked “I believe Haiti is the poorest country I’ve ever seen.” Healing Hands International is so thankful for Dr. Ganus’ interest in the ministry happening in Haiti, and we look forward to opportunities to partner with him in the future!
