Props We got a birds eye view shot of Bela in the bath. Similarly to Rihanna in her bath shot, we wanted to make this scene more natural than the other slightly more synthetic shots.

We opted for a bath scene because a bath is something that most people can relate to as something where they can relax. The fact that Bela, like Rihanna, still looks glamourous in the bath emphasises their style as they still look made up and attractive in the bath. This develops the covnention of real media products.

Like Beyonce, we shot Bela holding/ dancing with a sceptre. A sceptre can be associated with people of a high status which portrays Bela’s dominating character.

When researching for ideas for our music video it was apparent that a common thing was to show a prop in a scene then the prop would be gone in the next shot of the scene. This discontinuity is one way to play with the audiences interest as they may be tempted to watch it again. This is what we did with the sceptre.

Costume With all our five scenes we wanted Bela to wear a completely different costume in each one. This was to add another interest point for the audience. When researching into target audience we discovered that the main target audience for our artist was girls aged between 16 and 25. Primary research showed us that this audience were very interested in fashion which makes sense as to why similar artists have a lot of costume changes. Although every outfit was different all her costumes were either black, red or white (or a combination) as this formed a link to each scene.

Costume

Similarly to Iggy Azalea in her music video we also had Bela wearing a suit. This creates a sense of power and dominance. White is usually associated with innocence whereas they subvert this point as they’re similar characteristics represent rebellion but in a classy manner.

For the Chaise Longue scene Bela wore a suit The waiters are also in black suits but less stylish versions to show Bela as the point of attraction and focus.

Camera Our music video was all about keeping it pacey and making it interesting enough so people would view it again. One way we did this was by experimenting with different camera angles. This was a good idea because although we did have five scenes, having different camera angles allows viewers something new and exciting as well as helping to portray various features that we wanted to show off within the video such as close ups of Bela to show her lip synch. Types of shots we took include long shots, close ups, birds eye view, pan, extreme close up and more. The main focus was to have as much camera time on Bela so that the audience can see her lip synching as well as moving to the track. This is a key aspect as it helps the audience to memorise the track quicker.

Similar to Lady Gaga we took a few mid close up shots as this gives a hint of the artist’s body language, facial expression and reveals a slight view of their costume and upper half of their body.

A birds eye view shot allows the audience to see the scene from a whole new perspective. In Katy Perry’s shot we can similarly see her body language and the environment around her.

Beyonce is famous for her beauty as well as talent of singing which is why an extreme close up is a successful shot because it gives the audience a close view of her face and lips syncing

Performance Performance is important as it shows off the skills and various talents of the artist. In our ‘1991’ music video we didn’t depend on props that much which looking back now was quite a risky thing because Bela is a solo artist so all attention is on her. We can compare her to Ke$ha whose skill of dancing is commonly shown in her music videos. People are engaged to something that is done well and as Bela is a good dancer, like Ke$ha’s fans, Bela’s audience will want to view the video again as they had pleasure watching her perform. Her performance is a stylistic element of her as an artist which may appeal to her target audience as dancing is quite a popular hobby for many women in their late teens/ early twenties, so they have something to relate to.

Lighting The lighting through out our music video is fairly dark, especially as we turned down the brightness in the editing stage. This was to

Editing On shoot day we ended up taking a lot more shots than I originally expected, which worked in our favour as it meant we had more shots to work with during editing. We had two main focus points during editing- cutting on the beat and having fast paced cuts. A music video in which I can compare the editing to is
