Four years of high and low mo-ments, anecdotes during birth-day celebrations, cultural dayperformances, picnics, industrial

visits are no longer just penned downin autograph books or even slambooks. The batch mates who have re-cently passed out from their collegeshave made videos of their college lifein order to relive those nostalgic mo-ments for life long.

Dinesh Chandran from SRM Univer-sity, Bioinformatics, 2004-2008 batch, says, At first it was created just for funand entertainment but later after

completion of studies, the video whichhas songs from the movieBoys, hasbecome like a slam book for everyone. We recall four years in the four minutesingle video.

The videos that reflect the nature ofthe batch and college life are set totunes of various songsKal ho naa ho,gladiator theme and songs from thetamil flickBoys. While SVCEs video iscalled college in nutshell, M.Sc Elec-tronic Media (integrated) 2002-2007batch from Anna university is The 64and SRM Universitys is Friends forev-er. Karthikeyan from M.Sc ElectronicMedia (integrated) 2002-2007 batchsays, All through we were known asthe rebellious group and one of our

professors used to call us The 64 andwe became popular with that identityand hence the name.

Interestingly, the videos of Sri Ven-kateswara College of Engineering-electronics and Communication ECE2003 2007 batch and M.Sc ElectronicMedia (integrated) 2002-2007 batchhave got more than 1,000 views. A lotof coordination and planning was in-volved behind the making of these vid-eos. The creative minds got togetherand gathered photos from variousfriends and made the video withtouchy songs of various movies. These

videos have become an integral part ofthe farewell day celebrations. It was alast-minute preparation and the ideawas kept as a secret. Hence we couldinvolve only few friends. But we ac-complished the challenge of coveringalmost all our batch mates in the vid-eo. Majority of the pictures were fromour industrial visits and symposiums, says Siddharth Chyndalia of Electronicsand Communication ECE 2003 2007batch, from Sri Venkateswara Collegeof Engineering.

Ginesh Gandhi from M.Sc ElectronicMedia (integrated) 2002-2007 batchhad this idea much earlier during thecollege-days itself. We became veryclose to each other in the first fewmonths of college life and I was sure

that we will miss each other a lot.Hence from the initial days itself, Istarted to make a video and over a pe-riod of time, many of our friends joined in.

Autograph books are pass and students have begun to make videos on their college life and uploadthem online on YouTube. Ergo speaks to the young alumni of Sri Venkateswara College of Engineeringof Electronics and Communication ECE 2003 2007 batch and M.Sc Electronic Media (integrated) 2002-07 batch from Anna university and SRM University, 2004-2008 batch, Bioinformatics about their videos.

Start-up ooVoo is hoping totake on everybody fromSkype, the Internet telepho-ny arm of eBay, to Cisco

Systems with a new video confe-rencing offer for smallbusinesses.

While Skype has the higherprofile, New York-based ooVoohas quietly built up 7.5 millionregistered users in the last few

Skype recently added thetion of screen sharing, whichlows users to share all or patheir screen, and says it doescharge for this service.

But Skype, which provvoice conferencing options foto 25 people, only provides

to-one video and does not the call recording feature thaVoo has.

IDC analyst Rebecca Swensaid that ooVoos ability to cbine video and phone particnts in the same call is a big for attracting business custers. She also noted that thetion of setting up a

Enhance your digital picsBefore you edit your digital photos, create copies of them. That way, you can always revert to the original version ifsomething goes awry in the editing process. This is especially important if you work with photographs in the JPEG format,as opposed to RAW. With JPEG, each time you save the image, a slight degradation occurs. An aging population willpush up pension and health-care costs, forcing major in-creases in public spending thatcould slow economic growth inrich and poor countries.

The number of people 65 andolder hit about 506 million as ofmidyear 2008, according to theUS Census Bureau. This willdouble to 1.3 billion by 2040,accounting for 14 percent ofthe total global population.

People aged 65 and over will

Aging is affecting everycountry in every part of the

The main barriers to improving the image of Test cricket have been erectedby the ICC (International Cricket Council) itself. It has done the most to

devalue Test cricket. Diminishing crowds at tests in all countries barring England andAustralia is a worry.

    Ian Chappell

    E

ngland won an Ashes Test at Lordsfor the first time in 75 years as they

beat Australia by 115 runs in the sec-ond Test on Monday to take a 1-0 lead

in the five-match series. Australia, set a record 522 to win, were

bowled out for 406 on the fifth and final daywith all-rounder Andrew Flintoff taking fivewickets for 92 runs and off-spinner GraemeSwann chipping in with four for 87.

England, who clung on for a draw in thefirst Test in Cardiff, made a sound start

with captain Andrew Strauss scoring 161 ina first innings total of 425. Swing bowlerJames Anderson then took Test-best figuresagainst Australia of four wickets for 77 runsas the touring team were bowled out for215 in reply. Strauss decided against en-forcing the follow-on and, thanks to briskfifties from Paul Collingwood and MatthewPrior saw England make 311 for six before

Strauss declared their second innings be-fore start of play on Sunday.Australia were then left needing to set a

world record for the highest fourth inningstotal to win a Test, surpassing the 418 forseven made by the West Indies against Aus-

tralia in Antigua in 2002/03, to win. En-gland, aided by some favourable umpiring

decisions, reduced them to 128 for five be-fore a sixth-wicket stand of 185 betweenMichael Clarke (136) and Brad Haddin (80)revived Ashes-holders Australias hopes.

But Flintoff removed Haddin with hisfourth ball on Monday morning sessionand from then on wickets fell steadily be-fore Swann bowled Mitchell Johnson (63)to wrap up the match shortly before lunch. The third Test of the series starts at Edg-baston on July 30.

To win an Ashes Test match at Lords

feels very special but were not going to getcarried away, England captain Andrew

Strauss insisted. His Australian counterpartRicky Ponting was magnanimous in defeat. We are obviously disappointed to lose inthis type of venue but we were outplayedfrom the first ball to the last ball. Now wehave to bounce back, regroup and hit theground running for the next Test atEdgbaston.

    Brief scores

    England 425 (A. Strauss 161, A. Cook 95;B. Hilfenhaus 4/103) and 311/6 declared(M. Prior 61, P. Collingwood 54) beat Aus-tralia 215 (M. Hussey 51; J. Anderson 4/55)and 313 for 5 (M. Clarke 136, B. Haddin 80;
