Digital Storytelling
Student constructed stories on
academic topics utilizing DE
streaming media assets (images,
audio, editable video segments).
Notable web 2.0 platforms for to
engage them in the process
• An engaging alternative to PowerPoint.
• Students, parents, and education partners can view the VoiceThreads and leave comments.
VoiceThread
• Create image and video mash-ups in seconds.
• Teachers can apply for Animoto for Educators. Animoto
• Web-based platform for developing interactive, non-linguistic and non-linear presentations.
Prezi
• Web-based digital storytelling platform very similar to PhotoStory3 for Windows.
Photo Peach
Discovery Education STREAMING images, video segments, and
audio can be added to any of these platforms.
Digital Storytelling Integration Idea
“Finish the Story”
1. • Download a series of relevant images from DE STREAMING.
• Images can be thematic or randomly connected to the unit of study.
2. • Facilitate empathy and help “tell” the story by enhancing the images using
Picnik (http://www.picnik.com).
3. • Develop a digital story in PowerPoint, iMovie, PhotoStory 3, Windows
Movie Maker or other applicable web 2.0 tool with one image per slide.
4. • Create a title for the story and add relevant music.
• Do not add text or voice-over narration to the story.
5.
• As an assessment, have cooperative learning groups view the digital stories; developing a storyline that considers the title, and connects the images to class content.
Student 1: Starts the story
Student 2: Adds to the story at the next image
Student 3: Adds to the story at the next image
Student 4: Finishes the story based on the last image
