INTRODUÇÃO AO CATÁLOGO

Este catálogo é uma simples amostra

de atividades de ecoturismo que se

podem realizar no Algarve, fugindo

ao convencional turismo de Sol e Mar

ou Golfe. Não se tratam de meros

passeios e saídas de campo, mas

sobretudo de experiências ao ar livre

e de grande proximidade com as

pessoas que vivem e trabalham no

Algarve interior. Queremos mostrar

o que de melhor existe nesta região e

que para muitos é ainda desconhecido.

Desde passeios a pé a actividades de

Birdwatching, passando pelo workshop

de agricultura tradicional, procuramos

transmitir conhecimentos, sensações

e, especialmente, boa disposição. Veja

CATALOGUE INTRODUCTION

This catalogue contains a sample of

ecotourism activities that are available to do

in the Algarve, in order to the escape from

the conventional tourism, of sun, sea or golf.

These are not merely tours and outdoor trips,

they are outdoor experiences to promoting

close proximity to people who live and work

in the interior of the Algarve. We want to

show the best of this region which is still

unknown for many people. From walking

activities to Birdwatching, a workshop of

traditional agriculture, we are trying to

convey knowledge, feelings, and especially

good will. See the activities that we propose

and sign up! The rest is on us!

Libélulas e Libelinhas, na companhia

de um guia especializado. A Fonte

da Benémola é o lugar ideal para a

fotografia e observação deste tipo de

insectos, que aqui ocorrem em grande

quantidade e diversidade (mais de 20

espécies). Deixe-se contagiar por estes

seres cuja sua origem é anterior à dos

dinossauros.

Visit one of the best hot-spots of the Algarve

for the observation of dragonflies and

damselflies in the company of an experienced

guide. Fonte da Benémola is the perfect place

for photography and observation of these

types of insects that occur here in enormous

quantity and diversity (more than 20

species). Let yourself be captivated by these

beings whose origins predates the dinosaurs.

Querença, tem mantido ao longo da sua

História uma relação muito próxima

com a água, realidade que se reflete

na paisagem que abraça esta pitoresca

aldeia do interior algarvio. Numa

pequena caminhada, irá apreciar o

mais valioso património hidráulico de

Querença. Destaque para as fontes,

nascentes, minas de água, noras,

levadas e um dos únicos moinhos de

água em funcionamento no Algarve.

Querença has maintained throughout

history a very close relationship with water.

This reality is reflected quite clearly in the

landscape that embraces this picturesque

village in the interior of the Algarve. In a

simple walking tour, you will appreciate the

most valued water heritage of Querença

with emphasis on the several fountains,

springs streams, water wells and one of the

only operating mills in the Algarve.

Colhereiro, Flamingo, Camão, Maçarico-

preto, Alfaiate, são alguns exemplos. O

Zarro-castanho é uma das vedetas locais

e uma das mais raras em Portugal.

Enjoy a special bird tour in Salgados Lagoon,

one of the most amazing places in Algarve for

birdwatching. At this small coastal lagoon,

a remarkable bird population gathers, with

several unusual species like the Ferrugineous

Duck, Glossy Ibis, Purple Swanphen among

many others. More than 60 bird species can

be seen in one day tour including Spoonbill,

Greater Flamingo, Avocett, Marsh Harrier,

Wood Sandpiper.

Setembro e Novembro milhares destas

aves migram por esta região, fazendo

gosta de as observar e fotografar. Águia-

calçada, águia-cobreira, águia-de-bonelli,

abutre-do-egipto, grifo, cegonha-preta

e falcão-da-rainha são apenas algumas

das espécies que por aqui passam!

Participe ainda numa saída plágica de

barco, para observar de perto centenas

de aves marinhas.

Autumn bird migration has a special place

in the Algarve: the Sagres Peninsula! Its

the main migratory corridor for birds of

prey in Portugal and an amazing place

for the observation of seabirds! All birds

of prey have been watched here, including

the Spanish Imperial Eagle, Black Vulture,

Bonellis Eagle and many others! Griffon

Vulture, Booted Eagle and Short-toed Eagle

are among the most abundant, but you can

also find Eleonora’s Falcon, Egyptian Vulture

our grandparents, where the bread was

traditionally cooked in a wood-fired oven.

e Querença, num percurso por vezes

exigente, sinta o aroma próprio dos

densos sobreirais e ricos matagais

mediterrânicos, onde abundam os

medronhais e urzais. No final recupere

as forças com um lanche tradicional.

Forget the hustle and bustle of the city

and spend a day hiking in Serra do

Caldeirão. Between Barranco do Velho

and Querença, sometimes challeging,

smell the aroma emanating from the dense

cork oak trees forests and the rich and

dense Mediterranean thickets, abounding

in arbutus (medronho) trees, heather and

rosemary. At the end retrieves forces with a

traditional picnic of local products.

A produção de frutos secos foi, no

passado, bastante importante na

economia do Algarve, reflectindo-se

na própria paisagem da região. Numa

pequena caminhada interpretativa

em torno da cidade de Loulé, iremos

mostrar um pouco da riqueza natural

e cultural derivada desta actividade.

O programa inclui uma visita ao Pólo

Museológico dos Frutos Secos, ao belo

vale da Ribeira do Cadoiço, sua cascata

e campos agrícolas tradicionais. No

final, uma passagem pelo Mercado de

Loulé e uma degustação de produtos

algarvios, incluindo, claro, frutos secos!

The dry fruits production was a important

activity in Algarve’s economy, having a

relevant role at the landscape of the region.

Thru a short walk by Loulé surroundings,

you’ll be able to see a bit of the natural and

cultural values related to this interesting

activity. The proposed program includes a

visit to the dry fruits Museum, the beautiful

riverside valley of Cadoiço including its

water fall and traditional agricultural fields.

In the end we’ll have a stopover at the local

old market to a tasting of Algarve regional

products and specially dry fruits.

O Ludo, situado perto do aeroporto

de Faro, é um dos sítios mais ricos

em aves de todo o Parque Natural da

Ria Formosa. Todos os anos podem aí

ser observadas mais de 200 espécies,

algumas das quais bastante raras

no Algarve e em Portugal. Águia-

pesqueira, Águia-calçada, Milhafre-

preto, Camão, Garçote, Pato-de-bico-

-vermelho, Perna-vermelha-bastarda e

Chapim-de-máscara são apenas alguns

exemplos dessa grande diversidade.

Queremos mostrar um pouco dessa

enorme riqueza e para tal propomos

estes passeios! Esperamos por si!

“Ludo”, near the airport of Faro, is one of

the best and richest places for birds in all

the Ria Formosa Natural Park. Each year,

there we can observe more than 200 species,

some of them quite rare in the Algarve and

Portugal. Osprey, Booted-eagle, Black-kite,

Purple Swamphen, Little Bittern, Red-crested

Pochard, Spotted redshank and

Penduline Tit are just some examples

of this diversity. We intend to show a little

of this enormous affluence and suggest that

these tours! We wait for you!

OUR COMPANY

ProActiveTur is a small company dedicated to

the consultancy of tourist activities, having

its activities in the Algarve and Alentejo, one

of its main objectives is the development of

environmental tourism differentiated and

responsible to the different environmental, social

and cultural values in the region. The company’s

activity falls into the concept of ecotourism,

seeking to make known the rich natural and

cultural heritage of the territory, sustainably

and in harmony with the locals. Its activities

are conducted by expert guides on various

topics, and it seeks to provide moments of high

quality and proximity to the visited places.

Local development, interaction with the public,

educational and cultural experiences, observation

of nature, transmission of scientific knowledge,

are reflected in our initiatives that we share with

our customers.

OUR RESPONSABILITY

Our conduct, seeks to be responsible

environmentally, culturally and socially. We work

with small groups - up to 14 people - to provide

the richest educational experiences, we also

consume just products from the region with a

view to increasing the local economy, we contact

with the local populations, we support businesses

in the small villagesin the inland of the Algarve,

we pass on our best knowledge about the fauna,

flora and the regional culture, we respect the rules

of conduct in the environmental protected areas,

we support projects of conservation of nature we

support local developments. In addition, we are

located in Querença, a rural village in the inland

Algarve, where we manage our own organic

garden and encourage activities with young

entrepreneurs. It’s all part of how we work and,

above all, our way of being!
