Welcome to Week 4 Term 2

Today the Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell

announced a return to full-time face to face teaching from next Monday 25th

May. Secondary students will be issued with a new timetable later this week and

K-6 classes will resume as ‘normal’. Schools will maintain increased cleaning, ac-

cess to hygiene supplies and compliance with hygiene practices. The Minister

stressed that “schools will need to maintain the measures and precautions they have put in place for the

foreseeable future, including no assemblies and excursions. Teachers will be focused on identifying where

their students are at in their education and we will be supporting them to recognise and assist those stu-

dents who need additional help.”

Advice from the NSW Government is that school students do not need to follow strict adult physical dis-

tancing guidelines, but should follow good hygiene practices like regularly washing hands, avoiding shar-

ing drinks or food, coughing or sneezing into your elbow or a tissue, which should be discarded immedi-

ately, maintaining physical distancing from teachers and school staff.

School attendance - All students should be at school unless:

• they have a medical certificate which states that they are unable to return to school due to an ongo-

ing medical condition

• they are currently unwell.

If your child is unwell, do not send them to school. If they are unwell at school, you or your nominated

emergency contact will need to collect them immediately. Please ensure your child’s contact details are

up to date. If a student is absent without a medical reason for more than three days, this will be recorded

as an unauthorised absence and will be followed up by the school.

With return to full-time schooling there are at this time still a number of activities that will not go ahead

including school excursions, work experience, inter-school activities, in-school activities requiring parent

or other volunteers.

School Grounds - There should be no visitors to school sites unless they are essential. Please remember

that students are to be dropped off and collected from the school gates and parents are asked not to con-

gregate at the school gates. If parents need to see a teacher, please come via the front office to make an

appointment. I will inform the school community as soon as these activities are allowed to go ahead.

Reporting and assessment - Half Yearly assessments will take place in Week 9 this Term, allowing more

time for students to demonstrate achievement of curriculum outcomes. Semester 1 Reports will be issued

for Year 11 in Week 10 of this term and K—10 Semester 1 Reports will be issued in Week 2 of next Term.

Please refer to our school Facebook page for further updates and information throughout the week for

return to school next week.

Have a great week.

Welcome to Week 4! It certainly feels strange saying that. These last two weeks have seen a return to

school by most students. Each year group have attended at least their nominated two days of schooling

and it has been wonderful to have the children back in the classroom.

At the time of writing this, the return to full time schooling could be as early as next week. We are cur-

rently waiting to hear the directive from the NSW Department of Education and will notify students and

their families as soon as we are told. From next week the timetable will return to its regular structure, in-

cluding Maths and Literacy groups, and all students welcome to attend every day.

Please remember to return the work packs with your child so teachers can assess where each child is up

to, mark the work and return it promptly.

On Wednesday 27th May K-6 students will be participating in the National Simultaneous Storytime. Chil-

dren from all over Australia will be participating in a read aloud of Lucinda Gifford’s picture book,

‘Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas’ with the goal of achieving 1 million

kids reading at the same time!

Have a great week everyone and stay safe.

Mr Kline

This week we continue with ‘Types of Numbers’. Yesterday prime and composite numbers were intro-

duced and today we continued identifying factors and determining the difference between these types of

numbers. Tomorrow we look at square numbers and their properties and to end the unit we take a brief

look at triangular numbers. For those at school we will hopefully have some time on Thursday to go back

through the booklets and complete any unfinished work. Those working from home are encouraged to do

the same. Once again, I encourage all students to keep practicing their multiplication tables (especially for

this topic) and a reminder that Mathletics can also be accessed for extra activities.

This week year 7/8 English students are continuing with the study of Parvana for their novel unit.

Students have researched into the background context of Afghanistan and the life surrounding

the main protagonist, Pavarna, a 10-year-old girl who must pretend to be a boy to provide for her

family. Students have begun to analyse the novel through each chapter and will explore further

once all reading is complete.

9/10 English have also begun their novel study unit focusing on Gothic Novels and

narrative structure. Students has been reading Neil Gaimen’s Coraline, exploring the story and the

characters that make up this dark and intriguing style of storytelling.

English Studies are currently working through their ‘English through Music’ topic. Investigating the use of language

through all styles of music. Students are beginning to discover the use of language devices and features within

their favourite music genres and songs, and how words impact their everyday understanding of music.

This term Year 11 Ancient History have begun digging into the remains of the

archaeological site of Deir el-Medina in Ancient Egypt. Students are working well

in deciphering archaeological and written evidence to piece together the inner

workings of the daily lives of tomb builders of the New Kingdom who lived at the

site over 3000 years ago.

Standard English are well into the Module B: Critical Study of Literature work. Students have

completed their assigned reading of Feed and are progressing toward unpacking the text and

determining the language forms and features used. Students will soon be moving onto themes,

issues and ideas surrounding the text and what this means to them regarding their HSC

responses.
