It was a close game up until half-time but in the end, Condo were too strong in the second half, winning 6 tries to 3. Our second game was against St. Raphael’s Cowra. There was much excitement as we all lined up ready for our excursion to Wellington Caves. Most of us were excited about our excursion and some of us were extremely excited about going on the bus. The Wellington Caves were enjoyed by all of us—the main highlights were the Cathedral Cave (so sparkly!), followed closely by the stomping competition, and then of course, the playground at lunch time. The children had a lovely time and enjoyed the experience. Mrs. A. Brydon

Hello everyone. Welcome back to students and staff. I’m sure you’ve had a great break and are ready for what looks to be an exciting term. It was a pleasant task to welcome students back at today’s special assembly and advise them that all the build-ing projects were completed, there were no staff changes and that we were all looking forward to a peaceful, structured term with many great activities. A reminder to parents that we are a uniform school and we expect students to wear appropriate uniform and be at school before 8.50am every day. All students, including Kindergarten, who are late, need to go to the office and get a late note to take to class. If students are absent from school a signed note explaining their absence, including the days absent, is important. If students, for any rea-son, cannot wear uniform, a note from the parent is necessary. It was exciting for our Year 8 students heading to the ASPIRE excursion at the University of NSW yes-terday . This excursion provides opportunities for Regional students to experience a University atmos-phere and learn more about the value of a Universi-ty Education. They will participate in activities with other students from across the state at an innova-tive educational institution which has an attendance larger than the population of Dubbo. This term will see: the Athletics Carnival take place on the Friday of Education week (Week 3); the trial HSC will take place in Week 4; Year 12 students will be marked on their practical HSC projects during weeks 4 & 5; the Year 11 Snow Excursion is hap-pening in Week 4; the CLC Gala Concert is sched-uled for week 7; and the Year 12 farewell is sched-uled for week 10. Other happenings include the se-lection of our School Captains for 2014 and selec-tion elective subjects for Years 8 and 10. Congratulations to Megan Seis, of Year 6, who is the first Dunedoo student to be selected to attend Excel, the Regional Virtual Selective School. Megan will continue to attend Dunedoo CS, but will study Eng-lish, Mathematics, Science and HSIE via Video Con-ferencing . These subjects will be taught by Excel teachers, trained in teaching gifted students. All other subjects will be with her classmates. Only 30

students each year are selected for Excel, despite over 120 qualifying. We currently have three teach-ers teaching with Excel, Mrs. Cluff and Mrs. Stoddart in Science and Mrs. Gallagher in Mathematics. Congratulations also to Dan and Elle Lane who have been selected in the NSW squash sides which will be competing in New Zealand later this term. Rumour has it that Donna may be on leave during this time! Four other students Mitch Squire, Gabbi Johnston and Jayde and Christie Bauer will compete in the State Cross Country Championships in Sydney . Our girls Squash team comprising Kate and Emma Gal-lagher and Ceara Smith will compete for a place in the semi finals of the State Squash titles in Forbes on Friday and our Boys Open Touch team will battle with Brisbane Waters Senior Campus for a place in the top 8 in Dunedoo next Thursday Week. We wish all these students well in their endeavours. We are currently taking nominations for Education Week Awards which will be presented at our special education Week Assembly. These are for students, community members and staff who have made sig-nificant contributions to our school and our students over the past year. The Education Week Agenda will be out soon and will follow similar lines to last year. We hope to see as many parents, grandparents and community members join us on the day, particularly during the, now traditional, “Lunch on the Lawn”. Don’t forget the Bowls Day fundraiser for Year 11 this Sunday. It’s always a great day with lots of fun , food and prizes and supports our students in fund-ing their Snow Excursion. Many thanks to Mrs. Cluff for all her hard work and Therese Edmed and the Bowling Club for supporting our students. Enjoy your week! Peter Campbell

Principal

In Maths, Kinder topics are Comparing Volumes, Filling Containers, Push or Pull and Mass, whilst Yr. 1 will learn about Ordering Numbers, 10-Frame Subtraction and Doubles, and Near Doubles. I would like all children to put in a big effort this Term in learning their sight words and reading nightly—it is so important! Also homework begins this week. Congratulations to Luke Redding, our Student from Week 9 last term and to Jaxon Clifton and Riley Fagerstrom, who received Merit Certificates. Mrs. Yeo Year 1/2: Welcome to Week 1, Term 3. Homework needs to be handed in by Friday—Home Readers will commence today. Please read on a regular basis. I hope everyone had a great holiday and that you are all ready for a hardworking and productive term. See you on 31st July, and keep smiling! Mrs. M. Abbott

Homework Centre will resume again this Thursday, 18th July, from 3.00-4.00pm. Children MUST come with either set homework or a book to read, otherwise, we will provide them with writ-ten work to complete. They may go on to the computers when work has been finished, but only onto Mathletics and Reading Eggs. It is NOT a games afternoon. Mrs. M. Abbott, Mrs. E. Yeo & Mrs. J. Armstrong

Year 3/4:

Hello all, I hope you had a great holiday break and are ready for a big Term 3. We have a lot planned this term, including our Open Day in Week 3 and Primary Excursion in Week 9. A few reminders for this term: Our library day is Monday and all students need to remember to bring in their library bags for borrowing; Home readers need to be in your child’s bag every Monday and Thursday. We are very lucky to have parents exchanging them on these days and children need to have them swapped regularly to improve their reading levels; Crunch’n’Sip is every morning so don’t forget to pack some cut up raw fruit or vegetable. A great opportunity for your child to ‘re-fuel’ and help improve their physical health and concentration. There will be no homework or news this week. Have a great week. Mr. B. Kline Year 4/5: Hello everyone, welcome back to another busy term. I hope all the students enjoyed the long break as much as the teachers. You should be well rested and ready to learn. Due to the short week in class there will be NO Homework this week, it will resume next week. In English, we will start a new text type, narratives, and in Mathematics, Year 4 will be consolidating their multiplica-tion and division problem solving skills. Please don’t forget to pack crunch and sip for your child every day. Lastly, keep prac-tising for the upcoming Athletics Carnival. Enjoy the week. Mr. A. Honeysett Year 5/6: I trust you’ve all had a relaxing break (or at least the kids have) and are ready for a great term. We get straight back into it this week with our morning routines and continuing our work drafting and editing. In HSIE we will be studying ‘Australian Democracy’ and in, Science our unit is ‘Environment Matters’. My door is always open so if you ever need to contact me regarding your child please contact the school to arrange a suitable interview time. Cheers. Mr. J. Wilson

Hello & Welcome back for Term 3! I hope you all enjoyed your holidays, now back to reality! I am looking forward to working with my volunteers, Annette, Belinda, Debbie, Donna, Michelle, Nick, Nola, Ange & Victoria again this term. It would be fantastic if I could add a few more names to this list. For Weeks 2, 3 and 4 only, we will have some uniforms that are in stock on special, as follows: Please remember to order any uniforms by the end of Week 3 (2nd August). I apologise for the delay in the arrival of the sports uniforms. There has been an issue with the embroidery following a change of hands, the person dealing with our order having left the company, therefore issues arose that should have never been a problem—very frustrating!!! Community News D.J.R.L.N Dunedoo junior rugby league & netball

Thank you for a good day of Junior League & Netball on Saturday. It was a big day against Gilgandra, a few wins and a few losses, but most of all great sportsmanship and great weather!! Congratulations to the Senior League as well. They produced a great day on Saturday following the junior league, showing appreciation to all the ‘ladies’ in league. Well done! We hold another home game this weekend against Coolah. Please check with your coach for game times. Training will continue on Wednesday commencing at 4pm. Please note we have reduced the cost of all uniform and merchandise. Including jumpers, jackets, track pants, hats and more. Please see Julie Redding at training to purchase. A small note to all parents: Could we please once again ask all parents to please make a small effort to give a hand during our home games. Even if you can spare 15 minutes to help out in the canteen or BBQ, it really does mean a lot. I understand we do have some parent helpers, and we thank each and everyone of them for that, however, I believe there are more parents in our club that could spare 10-15 minutes and lend a hand too! Remember why we are there, and that is for our children. If the club benefits, the children benefit. Thank you to the people who do offer their time, your help is definitely appreciated.

You may be aware that Siding Spring Ob-servatory is Australia’s premier optical as-tronomical observatory and is the home of the 4 metre Anglo Australian Telescope, Australia’s largest optical telescope, and the Australian National University’s 2.3 metre Advanced Technology Telescope, Australia’s second largest optical telescope. These telescopes, along with many other facilities will be on display and open to the public on Saturday the 5th of October. Along with the opening of the telescope buildings to the public, there will also be informative and educational talks present-ed by professional astronomers and engi-neers throughout the day, including Nobel prize laureate Professor Brian Schmidt (seats are limited). There will also be ac-tivities such as solar viewing, face painting, colouring competitions and treasure hunts. Questacon will be attending and offering insights into the world of astronomy and science in general. The Open Day is but one event in our StarFest celebration organised for the weekend of the 4th to the 6th of October, and forms part of the wider “Festival of the Stars” held throughout the month in the Warrumbungle region.
