Men’s Tennis Sweeps NEAC Tournament
The SUNY Oneonta men’s tennis team wasted no time making their presence known in the North East Athletic Conference. The Red Dragons joined the conference this spring in the sport of men’s tennis and dominated at the NEAC tournament taking the team title and then sweeping the individual tournament taking every title to be won in singles and doubles play.
Freshman Adam Shapiro was named the NEAC Player of the Year after taking the NEAC title in first singles and teaming up with classmate Josh Slifkin to capture a doubles title at second doubles. Shapiro was one of four Red Dragons to bring home a pair of NEAC titles. Josh Slifkin also picked up a title at fifth singles while junior Matt Steinhauser won titles at first doubles and second singles and junior Mark Cannizzaro won titles at first doubles and sixth singles. The Red Dragons finished the season with a 16-4 overall record and a perfect 4-0 record in NEAC play. With no seniors on the roster this spring the future looks good as the Red Dragons look to go for NEAC title number two next spring.
