In the early 1900s, it was believed that women suffered from “hysterical tendencies” because of their gender. The treatment was to lock them up in rooms for long periods of time, isolating them from other people.

• According to recent studies by Bloomberg Business Week, Equalpay Tomorrow, and the US Bureau of Statistics, women currently make approximately 20% less on average than their male counterparts for the same job.
