    GOGREEN IN THE NETHERLANDSDHL plays a leading role in sustainable logistics. Through innovation and efficiency in logistics processes, DHL can substantially reduce the burden on the environment. DHL is at the forefront when it comes to sustainable transport, from bicycle to truck and even air fleet! More than half of the express shipments in many Dutch cities are delivered by bicycle in the ‘last mile’. We cycle where we can. When a package is too large for the bicycle, we use the delivery van that is now electric in many places. In the meantime, electric trucks have also been introduced in our fleet. But also the recipient can contribute to the environment by registering their delivery preference. With these initiatives we are well on our way to Zero Emission in 2050!

    Electric delivery vans and trucksDHL Express already has many electric delivery vans in use and the first electric trucks have now been added. The electric truck was first deployed in Rotterdam for the collection and delivery of larger shipments and this will be expanded in the coming period. Smaller shipments in the city center and in other larger cities are still preferably delivered by bicycle such as the Parcycle and the Cubicycle. DHL is one of the leaders in Rotterdam in the ‘Green Deal 010 Zero Emission City Logis-tics’ initiative to create sustainable solutions that will permanently improve air quality in the city center.

    GoGreen Climate Neutral ServiceYou can take care of the environment while ship-ping your goods. We offer an all-inclusive carbon off-setting service for customers with a DHL account who wish to balance their transport acti-vities with real measures to protect the environ-ment. The service comprises the calculation of carbon emissions at shipment level, the offsetting of those carbon emissions through DHL’s Carbon Management activities, and the annual certifica-tion of those offsetting activities by an accredi-ted third party, Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS).

    DHL Express Mobile AppBut also the receiving consumer can directly contribute to a cleaner environment. Every package that is delivered at the first delivery attempt saves kilometers and therefore CO2 emissions. This is good for the environment, makes delivery more efficient and connects sender and receiver even faster.     3. INSIDE OR OUTSIDE THE EUROPEAN UNION Different rates apply for domestic shipments, and for shipments within and outside the European Union. The EU rates apply to all shipments within the European Union. Outside the European Union a distinction is made between shipments that do not require customs clearance (Documents) and ship-ments that require a statutory customs declaration in the destination country (Non-Documents).

    4. WHAT WEIGHT?The rate of your shipment also depends on the weight in kilos or volume in m3 per package or item. Are you shipping a large ‚lightweight‚ package? Then we calculate the volumetric weight. After calculating the volumetric weight, compare this with the actual weight in kilos.     DUTIES TAXES PAIDBy default, DHL charges duties and taxes to the receiver. The Duties Taxes Paid service enables the shipper to pay these, and the shipper will be billed on the account as specified on the waybill.

    SHIPMENT INSURANCEFor extra peace of mind this insurance provides compensation, covering the amount necessary to repair or replace a shipment in the event of physical loss or damage.

    EXTENDED LIABILITYExtended liability will provide you with additional peace of mind and financial protection of €400 (including transport charges) for your document shipment in case of loss or damage.

    BILL TO IMPORTER OF RECORDThis service allows the shipper to send a dutiable shipment to the receiver, with the duties and taxes invoiced to a third party at destination acting as the nominated Importer of Record (IOR).

    FUEL SURCHARGE The fuel surcharge for Time Definite services will be based on the monthly average spot prices for US Gulf Coast (USGC) kerosene-type jet fuel, as reported by the U.S. Department of Energy.

    The fuel surcharge is adjusted in line with an index inincrements of 0.25%. The fuel prices are published by the US Department of Energy with a two-month delay. So the fuel surcharge for May, for example, is based on the average fuel price in January.

    The fuel surcharge for Day Definite services will be based on the most suitable national measure of diesel prices. The surcharge is linked to the consu-mer price in local currency of diesel fuel inclusive of duties and taxes and published here. Within Europe this is measured by the European Commis-sion Directorate General for Energy and Transport and published in the Oil Bulletin.

    The fuel surcharge is adjusted in line with an index inincrements of 0.25%. The fuel surcharge is adju-sted by DHL Express in the month after publication by the European Commission.

    DHL EXPRESS SURCHARGES

    BREXIT ADJUSTMENTDue to - among other things - the changes in customs regulations, Brexit will result in significant additional operational costs. For this reason, effective 1st January 2021 we will introduce a surcharge for all dutiable import and export shipments between the UK and the countries of the European Union. This surcharge has been set at € 0.25 per kg with a minimum amount of € 5 per shipment.

    EMERGENCY SITUATION SURCHARGEThe Emergency Situation Surcharge is a temporary charge, which allows us to cover part of the operating cost increases and the necessary air network adjustments. We will continue to evaluate and adjust the ESS as market conditions evolve for the duration of the emergency situation.
