Students using newspapers in schools scored an averageof 10% higher on standardized tests.Newspapers for Kids works especially well forstudents from non-English speaking households

It reduces “avoidance’ attitudes related to reading.

It gets students interested in what they are reading bothby having relevant subject matter and by using materialswritten in a style that students prefer to the style of text-books.

It provides specific strategies and exercises that helpstudents of varying abilities learn critical reading skills.

The curriculum has proven to be flexible and adaptable.It has been used in both elementary and middle schoolsettings, as well as high school summer school, and inboth language arts and social studies classes.

Significant improvement has been documented in MiddleSchool aged children exposed to newspaper programs.
