Birkbeck Enterprise Hub (BEH) has had a very busy and successful term.

On 31 January, 80 people came to hear Diane Perlman, Head of Microsoft Ventures UK, gave advice on starting a business. Accompanying her were two Microsoft supported entrepreneurs, Zack Young, founder of Cherry Bird and Rose Adkins, founder of Screen Hits. This was followed up with a tour of Microsoft's accelerator space in the new premises of Central Working in Whitechapel, where BEH members met the teams accepted on Microsoft's second accelerator cohort as well as mem-bers of the local Silicon Roundabout startup community. Back at Central Working in Bloomsbury, BEH inaugurated Startup Breakfast, an event made to nurture our own startup community in the Bloomsbury area. Two entrepreneurs, including the BEH's chief technology officer, Chris Dickinson, offered advice on 'Working successfully with a tech guy to build your startup - working across the technical/non-technical divide'. The event took place between 7- 8am with all 20 entrepreneurs rushing off to work after networking. Birkbeck students have been invited to compete in the Santander Entrepre-neurship Awards. BEH has been helping Birkbeck entrepreneurs fine tune their business planning skills. On Sat 22 February BEH held an all day Busi-ness Planning Workshop, led by Andrew Atter, Birkbeck Entrepreneur in Residence. From twenty participants on the day, eight submissions were received by the deadline. By the quality of submissions we can expect Birk-beck to do well in this national competition. Birkbeck entrepreneurs also had the chance to show their wares at the inau-gural Bloomsbury Bazaar. It's a market of entrepreneurial student vendors across three Bloomsbury colleges: Birkbeck, UCL and SOAS. The event was such a great success that work is being done to make it a regular event. Andrew Atter (Entrepreneur in Residence) has restarted his popular Entre-preneurial Coaching Sessions.

CIMR forthcoming event:

Workshop on Financing innovation, Wednesday 16 April, 2014, organised by Professor Carlo Milana and Dr Pierre Nadeau. This event will have a Birk-beck Enterprise Hub (BEH) session in the morning on raising finance by Zequs, a fund raising platform. New working papers: WP15: Born Global's Use Of Innovative Solutions To Create Sustainable Competitive Advantages As It Expands And Grows In Different International Markets by Svante Andersson, Gabriel Awuah, Ingemar Wictor. This paper deals with how born global firms learn from own experiences and from other actors, with whom the firms interact in foreign markets, to create innovative solutions for international growth. WP16: The efficiency of universities' knowledge transfer activities: A multi-output approach beyond patenting and licensing by Federica Rossi. Using data from the United Kingdom, this paper analyses the relative effi-ciency with which university institutions engage in knowledge transfer activi-ties, and study the institutional and environmental factors that influence their efficiency.
