Important Business From Conclave
On the icy morning of Friday, October 22, ten Delta Theta Sigma members of the Alpha
Chapter climbed into an Ohio State rented van. Nine hours of driving, some much needed rest or
studying, and plenty of jokes later, the van pulled into a welcoming hotel parking lot in Madison,
Wisconsin. Ten weary acve members (and one very red Brice Bowman) piled out, ready to
discover exactly what it means to be Alpha Chapter.
Aer checking in and geng seled, it was me to explore the town. Eager and
somewhat nervous members ocked to the streets to scope out possible late night food stops, as
well as Gamma Chapters house. A very informal meet and greet took place over hot dogs and
bratwurst. And so began Alpha Chapters interacon with the six other chapters of Delta Theta
Sigma. Later on that night, Alpha Chapter aended a meeng in which every chapter gave a brief
presentaon. It was enlightening and somewhat grafying for Alpha Chapter to see how policies and
ideas they started have spread to other chapters and helped Delta Theta Sigma be more successful
across the board. In addion, Alpha Chapter got a few ideas from the other chapters, as well as
unkind words and phrases from the Wisconsin chapters due to the preceding weeks football results
(Wisconsins uke victory over the Buckeyes).
The social events went well, and there was much discourse between Alpha and the other
chapters. However, there are some important business items to discuss that are applicable to
alumni, acve members (of all chapters), and prospecve students. Before divulging said important
informaon, heres a rundown of the awards that Alpha Chapter won: Outstanding Chapter Award,
Highest GPA Award, and Outstanding Publicaons Award (like this ne newsleer youre currently
reading).
Now, heres the dirty details. Three main items were discussed at the business meeng.
The rst, which took up most of the me at the business meengs and has absolutely nothing to dowith Alpha Chapter, was the issue of the Lile Sisters Program. This is a relevant issue to other
chapters, as it is one of the biggest means of recruitment for them. Second to be discussed was the
connuing issue of the Zeta Chapter at Purdue University. Due to lack of members, they have
ocially been phased out. Much of the discourse was trying to gure out how to handle their unpaid
loans. Thirdly and most importantly, there was discussion of a merger with Alpha Gamma Sigma.
Alpha Chapter vehemently opposed the measure, due to the rivalry between both chapters here at
Ohio State, their current GPA standings (31 out of 32, compared to DTSs 3rd) and involvement levels
on campus. Despite the enraged outcry from Alpha Chapter, every other chapter was seriously
considering it. Over the course of the next year, Naonals will be communicang with the Naonal
Board of Alpha Gamma Sigma to reduce uncertainty and gain informaon. No ocial word will come
for another one to two years, but well be sure to keep you posted. Stay tuned for more informaon.

What a busy quarter we have had here at DTS! It seems like yesterday we
were all cheering over a victory against Miami in The Shoe, now we just celebrated
our 6th Consecutive Big Ten title! We had a huge success with our Wifflefest
philanthropy event. We raised $450 to donate to the community kitchen at St. Johns
Church. We were very proud of our efforts on that event. We inducted a new
honorary member into the ranks of Delta Theta Sigma. Mr. Chuck Gamble was
honored with Honorary Membership after three years of help to DTS in working at
Farm Science Review! The members of DTS have been planning the annual holiday
dinner for our families. We will be gathering December 4th in the Agricultural
Administration auditorium to share food and fellowship. We all survived the Mirror
Lake jump, which I always consider to be a big plus. Although Michigan week was
during Thanksgiving, we still managed to have a lot of fun.
Improvements around the house are always in progress. We just finished
painting the 1st floor hallway and the active bathroom on the first floor. A big thank
you to Andrew Klopfenstein for making the house new sets of letters as well. I
encourage all alumni to come back for Founders Day and see the great letters on
the house. That is about it for now! Please come by anytime to see Christmas
lights, recent house improvements, or just to swap stories. We always enjoy
having alums back in the house.

Congrats to the busy members of DTS! The guys of Delta Theta Sigma have been all
over the place this quarter, whether it be in clubs, organizaons, or philanthropies. One other
thing our members have been doing this quarter as well as recent quarters is internships; three
of them that come to mind are Andrew Klopfenstein gaining one with New Holland, Chris
Goshe, who worked with Sunrise Cooperave, and Dave Dziak, who is currently interning with
the Ohio House Republican Organizaonal Commiee. In regards to philanthropies, the
majority of the members bonded together and formed three teams for the Alpha Xi Delta Fuzzy
Football philanthropy for Ausm awareness. Speaking of philanthropies, we at DTS had our
own annual OSU Wiefest philanthropy, in which we partnered with Delta Zeta and had 14teams! Also, a brave group of nearly a dozen acves and one alumni travelled to Gamma
chapter in Wisconsin this quarter for the DTS conclave 2010. I menoned the upcoming Fire
Safety event in my last report, which was a great success with an informaonal video and
pracce with re exnguishers. With all the acvies we have been involved with this quarter,
we have sll kept our mind on our classes and grades, and hopefully we will be at the top of all
fraternies in GPA for next quarter.

This year has proven to be prey roune so far. I have
kept up with taking minutes at all meengs and having
them sent out by Monday night. Aside from that I have
been posng the weekly DTS schedule on the bullen
board every week by Monday aernoon and have started
a new DTS acvies chart for Autumn 2010. All of the
Holiday Dinner invitaons have been mailed out and
name cards will be made for the event.
Fall quarter has almost ended and has proved to be an unevenul
one in the budgetary area, house bills were collected without issue
for the most part with only a few people sll making payments. No
surprise bills have arisen and the chapter has been very successful
with fundraising. We were able raise $2,000 working the recycling
eorts at Farm Science Review the rst week of classes. In addion,
we have been able to raise almost $2,200 parking the lot for football
games, and thank you to those alumni that have supported us in this
eort. The chapter has used this money to purchase a sound system
for the front porch, purchase new tables for the basement, and plan
to use the remainder to supplement
their costs to put on the White
Carnaon Ball.

With Christmas just around the bend,
our rush team plans to maintain
contact with our recruits over break.
We are looking at a class of 10 or 11
potenal members this Winter
Quarter. Dr. Whington has been
very helpful in recruing, as he has
introduced us to a group of honor
students that he teaches. Card nights,
cookouts, movie nights, and inving the
rushes over on Monday nights for dinner,
are just a few of the rush events that have helped us get to
know our possible new member class for the winter. We
hope to connue with our success, and with the guys we are
bringing in, I dont see that being a problem.
Obviously, there have been a vast
number of improvements to the
house that you will read about in
much more detail later in this issue.
First, we hung up a few sets of
leers on our front porch. There
are two sets of DTS leers in Greek
on either side of the steps, and
Delta Theta Sigma wrien in scripton the top of the house. In addion, there has been a
ridiculous amount of painng going on lately, and the hallways
now seem to glimmer in the sunlight with the outstanding job
done by members like Jed Bookman. In addion, we put up a
large amount of Christmas lights and our house looks
absolutely astounding. Maintenance of the house has been
quite good, and Special Projects Chair Jordan Schaeer has
really done a lot this quarter to keep our house looking
fantasc.

Bright and early on Veterans Day (November 11), 14 teams trekked out
to the ARC to play some wieball to raise money for St. Johns Community
Kitchen. Approximately $450 was raised for this worthy cause. However, it was
more than just doing things for the community, it was about having fun. We
pulled on the long baseball socks and whipped out the UnderArmour. While some
members like Senior Eric Radachi and Junior Dan Nicol were busy ociang the
game, some members took on the role of coaches for the sorories and
fraternies involved. We cheered on the teams and made some new friends.
Networking was done, and foundaons for future involvement in our ne
philanthropy were established.
Despite the fact that we were running logiscs, we were sll able to
establish a team (with our freshman). With their talent, they were able to take
rst in our own tournament. Not only did we raise money for a just cause, but we also came home with yet another trophy.
Coming in second were the lovely ladies of Delta Gamma. They played fervently throughout the course of the day, and were able
to take home a very nice second place trophy.
We have grown exponenally since last year, where we only had ve teams and raised about $200. We accomplished
this solo last year, and this year we brought on the women of Delta Zeta to assist us in hosng the event. Expect that this me
next year to hear more news of growth and more money raised for the ne folks at St. Johns Community Kitchen.
Farm Science Review has came and went for yet another year. As in the past, the brothers of
Delta Theta Sigma have performed above and beyond the call of duty and helped with recycling at the
Farm Science Review. Aer three years of working with the FSR, the members of DTS decided it was me
to recognize an important individual within the FSR/DTS relaonship. That individual was Mr. Chuck
Gamble.
The brothers of DTS decided to bestow upon Mr. Gamble the status of Honorary Member for
his instrumental support in the recycling opportunity given to DTS. The decision to oer Mr. Gamble
Honorary Membership was a unanimous vote to extend membership!
Mr. Gamble hails from Logan County, not far from acve Joe Greenes homestead in DeGra,
Ohio. Mr. Gamble has served the Farm Science Review for over een years and has served as manager ofthe show for ve years now. Under his leadership, many improvements have been made to the show and
it connues to grow and be one of the top shows in the world. You could ask Mr. Gamble if we are the
best show in the world and he may be humble in his answer, but we know that we are one of the best!
This year, we helped Farm Science Review reduce the amount of waste deposited in landlls
greatly. An esmated ve, 40 yard dumpsters were saved from going to the landll and recycled instead.
DTS members donated over 200 hours of service to the review as well. Mr. Gamble added that Ohio
States FSR is one of the only farm shows to be this successful in recycling.
A big thank you and congratulaons to Mr. Gamble. We are honored to add him to the ranks of quality DTS men.

DTS Takes on a New Look
Over the course of the past few weeks, members of
Delta Theta Sigma have been working diligently to acquire, cra,
and hang new leers on the front of the house. We gured it
was me for an upgrade, as the old leers on the front of the
house were both old and outdated. It only makes sense that as
our presence on campus, as well as membership grows, the
quality of our house should as well. The new leers look
outstanding, and anyone walking down 13th
Avenue is sure to
recognize that this is more than a house, but a fraternity ofleaders.
This was done at relavely lile cost to the fraternity monetarily.
Junior Andrew Klopfenstein and Senior Joseph Trinter were
instrumental in the creaon of the leers that read Delta Theta Sigma in
script on the top of the house, as well as DTS in Greek that now hang on
the railings on the front porch. Andrew Klopfenstein was able to get the
sheet metal used for the leers donated by Warner Metal Works and
with the help of Joseph Trinter, used a plasma cuer to cra the
glorious script. With the help of members like Jonathan Francis, theleers were grinded down and painted to look their best. Then,
members such as Sophomore Jordan Schaeer and Senior Ryan Butcher
assisted in hanging the gleaming new leers on the night of November
12th
. The house now looks outstanding thanks to the crasmanship and
dedicaon of these members.
Jordan Schaeer climbs the ladder to hang the leers while Adam
Benne and Jusn Shreyer keep it steady (Above). Ausn Kirk and
Jed Bookman prepare the leers to be hung by grinding them

DTS Pairs Up With Phi Sigma Rho for Homecoming Week 2010
On the week of October 15th
, Delta Theta Sigma
paired up with the lovely ladies of the small
engineering sorority Phi Sigma Rho. With many
of the girls in the sorority having agricultural
backgrounds similar to the men of DTS, it was
bound to be a good week. There were a lot of
acvies that took place between these two
Greek organizaons, which further bolstered
the inuence of both chapters in the eyes of the
Greek community. In the past, DTS has struggledfor involvement and hasnt necessarily been a
large player on the Greek stage, not doing much
in regards to Greek or Homecoming Week. This
year has been a key year in changing that.
On the Monday of Homecoming Week, the two
chapters got to know each other over an
informal session of watching the movie Top
Gun. Tuesday connued the week of
enjoyment, with a delicious cookout headed bySenior Ryan Butcher. The girls came over and
enjoyed some hot dogs, burgers, and sodas.
Wednesday was perhaps the most
entertaining night, as it was the night
of the TG (Themed Gathering) of
Anything But Clothes party. Theladies of Phi Sigma Rho sported trash
bag dresses, and the guys of DTS got
creave with cardboard boxes. This
was essenally the end of
Homecoming Week for most of the
DTS guys considering Conclave was
that weekend. Leaving at six am
Friday morning, those who went to
Conclave had their fun on
Wednesday and said goodbye to the
PSR girls. Though the week ended
somewhat early for most of the guys,
good relaons were formed between
the two chapters and foundaons for
cooperaon in the future were
formed.

Santa Claus is Comin to Town...and DTS is Ready for Him
Before and aer Chapter on Monday, November
29th
, a group of DTS guys broke out strings of lights in an
eort to make the house light up the Columbus night.
With plenty of extension cords, a ladder, and a whole lot
of determinaon, the boys of Delta Theta Sigma went to
work and hung up some lights. The charge was led by
Sophomore Jordan Schaeer, whose experse as Special
Projects chair was enough to direct everyone helpingeciently. Aer this leadership and dedicaon from
everyone that helped, the house now looks outstanding
and is certainly a contender for OSUs Light up the
Night contest. Thank you to all those who helped, as the
house now draws even more posive aenon from the
residents of 13th
Avenue.

We, the members of Delta Theta Sigma Fraternity, in order to promote agriculture, to secure
a higher degree of scholarship, to foster the spirit of brotherhood in our vocation and to
insure social and cultural unity, do promote our organization to the fulfillment of these
ideals.
As promised in the last Echo, we have done our fair share of Public Relaons work. Our name,
Delta Theta Sigma, is slowly but surely becoming an increasingly household name around the Greek
community at Ohio State. A large amount of our PR has been done through outside publicaons. For
example, we currently have a member as a contribung writer for a growing magazine for the Greek
community at Ohio State called The Odyssey. Each Wednesday a magazine comes out that circulates
around the Greek community and Delta Theta Sigmas name has appeared in nearly every issue that has
come out this year. In addion, we were recently interviewed by a magazine called The Ology, which will
signicantly speak about the benets of not only Greek life in general, but especially agricultural
fraternies, and more specically, Delta Theta Sigma.
In addion to publicaons, we have been
more apt about wearing our leers around
campus so that our leers become more
recognizable. Thanks to the addion of Delta Theta
Sigma hats through the guidance of President Jed
Bookman at the end of last year, as well as Delta
Theta Sigma hooded sweatshirts with the hard
work of Eric Radachi, our members are constantly
posively reecng our image throughout campus.
Finally, our involvement in philanthropies
and events hosted by other Greek organizaons has
signicantly increased our clout amongst Greek members of OSU. This quarter, we hosted our own
philanthropy, Wiefest, as menoned earlier, and also parcipated in Alpha Tau Zetas Grilled Cheese
for Diseases, Delta Delta Deltas Just for Kicks soccer tournament, as well as Alpha Xi Deltas Fuzzy
Football, which raised money for Ausm Awareness (pictured above). For Fuzzy Football, we had a
strong showing of three teams of six members each, which was much more than that of larger
fraternies on campus. Though small in comparison to most fraternies, we sll had a more presgious
inuence than others who parcipated. Weve proven ourselves to the Greek community, and we will
connue to do so, thus boosng our inuence throughout campus.
